I saw a story on the news Sunday morning that made me, as a gambler, want to puke. I'll try to summarize as best I can....
There's a guy with a gambling addiction and he ends up in way over his head. I'm talking WAY over. As in, this guy has like 5 or 6 million in gambling debts built up and it's all starting to catch up with him. Anyways, he finds a bank in Vegas that cashed a bad check he wrote for a quarter of a million dollars and what does he do but hit the tables, of course, trying to win himself out of debt.
The amazing thing is that he actually DID it. He ran his $250,000 all the way up to close to $9 million on the black jack tables. (9 million was enough to cover all of his debts and still leave him in excess of 2 million dollars left over.)
But, as you might assume based on the fact that he let himself get this far into debt to begin with, this guy wasn't very bright. Nor did he know when to quit because in the SAME NIGHT that he won 9 million, he lost every penny of it back to the very same blackjack table!!! Yep, he was a millionaire for all of about two hours, now he's back to being buried in debt so deep that he'll never climb out.
What an idiot. I'll tell you right now, if I ever get ahead even 1 million at the casino, I'll call it a day and take the wife out for a drink.

At least go pay what you owe and then throw away the other 2 if you just can't help yourself. That's just too damn stupid.

I want to beat him for screwing up an opportunity that anyone else would kill for. $2mill over your debts? Dear lord...
Honestly, killing him would be doing him a service. His life is nothing but pain if that is what he is doing...

I dont understand how someopne could get that far in debt over time. I would have thought when he hit $30,000 in debt, someone would have broken his legs.

LOL..shit em just happy if i win 50$'s..
this complete family drove up to auckland casino n did something similar.
They each won enough money between them to pay off all of thier debts..buy themselves a home n car each..but ..what did they do??
dumbasses kept going to try n win the 5 million$ jackpot with a mercedes..plus other prizes.
They ended up ringing family in Auckland to borrow money to get thier car out of the carparking area..a whole 5$'s. Some ppl just dont learn...

I couldn't do that. The whole debt thing was just stupid. Hell, if I get in $20 over my head, I freak out like the worlds going to end. As you can imagine, everything I own is paid for. I can't stand being in debt. And if I was in that far, I'd probably shoot myself.

I regard people who gamble as being pretty stupid in the first place. If you're gonna gamble, you may as well sell drugs and gamble on whether or not you're going to get caught at it...better money, I'm sure.
Poker machine freaks piss me off. Especially the ones that make a living of it. How someone can even endure one of those machines (surrounded by others with their stupid fucking flashing lights and repetetive jingles) for more than 5 minutes is beyond me.
Notice how many poker machine freaks smoke too? Addictive personality...sad sad sad.
...and the whole "I'll try to gamble more to win something back", totally fucking retarded.
As for this guy, it's good to know that at least the loan sharks will get a good laugh before hurting him.

It's idiots like this that give gambler's, in general, a bad reputation.
I play poker alot. I love it. But I would never gamble more than I could afford to lose and I tend to win more than I lose.
Just a little info on casino odds....
Aside from poker, in which your odds of winning depend on your abilities at the table, Blackjack has the best odds, giving the player pretty close to a 50/50 (Give or take depending on variables in House Rules) shot of leaving the table ahead some money. Slot machines have the worst odds at only 30% (Only 3 out of 10 players end up ahead.) Everything else (video poker, roulette, craps, keno, etc...) falls somewhere in between 30-50%.
So, unless you are playing poker, the odds are that you are gonna lose. (The odds are that you'll lose playing poker too if you suck at it, however good players can win more than they lose and great players can make a living off of it.)

Those odds are horseshit...
The only form of gambling that comes CLOSE to a 50/50 shot is the black or red bet on a roulette table, or betting on 2-team sports.

Wrong dude. Blackjack is 50/50. (Or 49/51 in favor of the house depending on the house rule for a dealer's soft 17.)
If you need me to dig this up on the net for you to see for yourself, I can, but I know it's accurate.

http://www.insidervlv.com/CasinoOdds.html
Here's a website that shows the odds (or house advantage) for every game in the casino.
Notice that all the variations of blackjack are less than 1% house edge.
Also, I never noticed before because I don't play it, but Keno has terrible player odds.
