What makes a horror icon? Why do some screen villains take off (Leprechaun) while others, often better ones, linger in obscurity (Evil Ed)? I suppose the obvious reason is money, but I would like other thoughts.

Popularity, intensity, malicious wit (ie Freddy), perhaps the awesomeness of the movie in which they are portrayed...That's about all I've got...good question...

Very good points.

Answer me this then, how does the Leprechaun have 5 sequels? I don't know many folks who like him, he's not intense, and his jokes suck. Why do they keep making these films?

I've always asked MYSELF that particular question...Still haven't come up with an answer...
Those movies SUCKED...Yet, alas...I watched them all...
Maybe you keep telling yourself they HAVE to get better because they CAN'T get any worse...and then you find out that you are wrong...sigh...:D

It just boggles my mind that someone gave somebody else a decent sum of money to make...Leprechaun Back to the Hood.

Geez, just give me the money and I'll put it to better use.

It's all about money. Money is the root of all evil. And Leprechaun and other such movies are EVIL. Not evil as in scary stuff, but evil as in the mass majority somehow enjoys them. They've been programmed and the people who programmed them are the people making ass sucking movies like these.

It's like Britney Spears - there's insane amounts of money pumped into making her a big star and convincing society that she is good and they're children will be good because of her, etc. She's got a little talent and they did whatever was technologically possible to make her better and "beef" her up and set her free into the world of pop culture. They pumped mass amounts of money into brainwashing the general public into believing in her.

Look at all of the pretty sheep!

If this offends anyone, then um... well, it's my opinion and my opinion does not take into consideration any other person(s) opinion because it is mine and you can't fucking have it.

A HORROR ICON IS MADE OF ADVERTISEMENT,MONEY AND APPEAL A GOOD HORROR ICON IS MADE OF RELENTLESS PURSUIT AND RAGE FOR NO GOOD REASON IT'S MADE OF SOMEONE WHO IS'NT WHAT HE/SHE/IT APPEARS TO BE FOR EXAMPLE DOES FREDDY KREUGER LOOK LIKE THE KINDA PERSON THAT WOULD MAKE YOU LAUGH. DOES MICHAEL MYERS LOOK LIKE THE KINDA PERSON WHO CAN BEAT A ELEVATOR UP FOUR FLOORS.DOES ASH LOOK LIKE THE KINDA PERSON WHO COULD FIGHT OF DEMONS ALL NIGHT? THAT'S WHAT MAKES A GOOD HORROR ICON IMO THE UNEXSPECTED THINGS THAT HAPPEN THAT ADD THE COMEDY,DRAMA AND SUSPENSE.
