Nice early post :)
when did you get it? i sat through the hell of hl2's release night where the servers were so full it took 4 hours to validate and play. it is still the number 1 game i play, neck and neck with FEAR.

its a shame that when it first came out, i was posting threads to see if anyone played it online, and now that i dont play it anymore, other people start playing it. just my luck.

if oyu have a regular server you play on, get me the IP and I will hunt it down. I actually used to play cs with a bunch of guys from Glenrock mass (i was in their cs clan for a year). For all of my bitching about new england, the game community seems pretty good around these here parts.

I thought it was alright.
Personally, I thought the first one had a slightly better plot, and felt somehow deeper. It was like playing through a sci-fi thriller, whereas the second felt more like an action movie.
With exception to the great graphical advancements, slightly better AI, the ravenholme level, vehicles, and the gravity gun, I didn't see it as all that much of an improvement. For as long as everybody waited for this game, it seemed a little bit of a letdown.
Not quite the letdown doom3 was, but all the same.
Good game, but the first will always be my favourite, much more replayable too.

They need to totally remake the 1st with all the new enemies and graphics and guns, with more levels, and it would be amazing.
I just finished HL2: Episode 1
The fight scenes are better than the original. You fight a LOT more combine at once and you almost always have alyx by your side which is fun. The *Zombines* are really good zombies, pretty tough, freaky as well. The level in the parking garage is so FUCKING cool. Its scarier than ravenholm from hl2. Its pitch black half the time and your light runs out sometimes and you can hear fast zombies running at you and its jumpy.
The ending sucks more than m night shymalan's endings and is a bigger cliffhanger than pirates2... Bitches.

Just started playing this again last night......I usually start games...play for a few weeks...then come back months later.I will play it now until its conclusion.

YES!!! You must. it makes more sense. Granted, everything but the graphics will seem less groundbreaking in 2 after playing 1, but hl1 is a "must play". its like doom and quake, your life isnt complete unless you have played them

Play it until it's conclusion, and in between games, preload and purchase Episode one. it makes the end of the main game feel more complete.
It also explains 1 or 2 things

good ... cause i only have #1 - dont have #2 yet ..
I played another cool game the other day - forget the name ... where you're a guy in some special weapons suit - trying to fend off aliens who have boarded the space station ... (x-box)
was kind of fun - even if i get killed a lot.
my strategy for any shooter is to go running pell mell into the fracas shooting the shit out of anything ..
if there is ever a real war and i'm conscripted, i'll be the 1st to die.

The Garg (short for gargantua) can only be hurt with explosives, and it takes a shitload of them to kill them. A lot of both games require strategy when dealing with enemies. run and gun is a good way to get killed.

so i guess its another game where i'll never get past the 1st level.
i dont have the patience for it - my kid does ... but i get bored restarting things over and over again.

It flows nicely, though. And you can run headlong into some situations. others, if you run like hell, that is good enough :)

i think i'll have trouble with the controls though .. like the jeep in Reign of Fire ...

It comes with a thing called the hazard course, its a training level. play through it a couple of times to get familiar with the controls
and the cool thingis that once you find a config you like in hl1, you can config hl2 the same way, they didnt change the interface in that regard

Newb, get Episode 1 for HL2. trust me. Great Zombie action. And if you havent heard of it yet, i have a new word for you:
"Zombine"
Ep 1 also has a rather unique way of travelling at one point. i wont tell you what it is, but it involves Dog and a VW van.
