Yes it is indeed super.
The ending is highly divisive though, and most seem to think it undermines and cheapens everything that has gone before it.
Personally, I think it works - with just a moment's thought for consideration.

I didn't really like this movie. I though the plot twist made no sense with what was shown previously in the movie.
-SPOILER-
So it's supposed to be her friend the whole time, right?
So, who is she chasing in the truck?
Who is she hiding from in the bathroom?
Most importantly, who is in the truck in the beginning of the movie? When the womans head is thrown out the window. Somethings can be explained as her crazy revision of the events, but not this.
I just thought it all was a little to much.

That's even worse. I absolutly hate the 'it was all a dream' ending. Such a cope out.

The film is told mostly from the deranged, schizophrenic perspective of the girl - the filthy male killer is entirely a figment of her own imagination. There is no 'it was all a dream' ending.
Many think this revelation undermines and destroys everthing that has gone before - others however are impressed with the playing of the split-personality card also used effectively in Fight Club and Secret Window.

I misunderstood 'it all really never happened.'
But that's what I said before, that some of it could be explained as her crazy revision of events. But can that really explain it all. The guy in the van near the begininng. Did she imagine that? Or is this just a useless scene to throw off and confuse?
Don't get me wrong, misleading is fine, but there should be some sort of reason/explaination latter on.

I loved the film, hated the ending, but didn't let it change my opinion on the film as a whole. I heard the producers or something forc-edchanged the ending with re-writes. It was on the DVD interviews, or something. The original as Alexandre described it sounded MUCH better, although the same twist was apparent it was just told so much better.

Because it throws off the rest of the movie. If not for that particular scene, I'd be more willing to except the rest. I still may not have liked it...
That one scene is pointless and unneeded, and detracts from the rest.
And I'm not against unreason. Some movie pull it off. Fulci and Argento could do it well. Tale Of Two Sisters made no sense, but was still a good movie. I just don't think it was done well in this case.

can anyone say bandwagon you now folks i think its funny when people on this site and countless others will bash a movie because of an ending but then a movie like this where the ending is shit everyone loves I also think its funny that this one movie that everyone seems to look past the ending for ruining the rest of the movie is also one of the most hyped up horror forum movies of all time meaning one thing most of you probably just jumping on a bandwagon so your opinion looks good. I dont get it the movie sucked the ending made no sense there are no good qualities to this film the twist shit is overdone and has been overdone since forever.

So... the fact that it features good acting, great direction, beautiful shots, grade-a gore, and the best suspense I've seen for a while doesn't count for anything? I'm simply saying beside the ending, the film was good.
In most cases, when an ending ruins the film for more, it means the film had nothing left to offer BUT the ending, and managed to fuck that one up as well. or it was a tedious drive to the end, which, it fucked up. This was not the case for HT. It was interesting throughout, and regardless of the ending, it is still good. If it had an amazing ending, the hype would just be bigger.

The beginning of this film totally mad eup for the shitty ending. the atmosphere in the house scene was so strong and well shot, it was perfect.

I think the story line may be flawed, akwardly constructed, or poorly executed, but I admit it was well shot and had really good effect. Few movies have nothing good about them.

If you're asking about the severed head felatio scene, it might seem disconnected and strange since the killer is nowhere near the man in the truck at the time.
Marie is at least in pursuit or retreat from the man throughout the rest of the movie, making her the presence of her alter ego appear more feasable.
However it is hardly such a stretch of the imagination to consider that her Dissociative Identity Disorder can conjour up such thoughts... and that the filmmakers may dare to illustrate them. The scene might have been included to remove any possibility of viewers guessing the twist (which of course nobody did), but it also serves to deepen Marie's psychosis even further when we rewind at the end of the film. Replaying Haute Tension in our heads and watching it for the second time is a whole new experience.

The rest of the film is mediocore and to the fellow that asked me if i like this movie better then dream child id probably have to say yes mainly because other then parts 1 & 3 in the Noes series they pretty much were all rubbish as well.
