do most people here prefer the classics...(I assume most do)

I don't know, I need to start a horror collection and only have six titles but I don't really know if this is right for me. the community seems real nice and all, but than you have your share of elitist assholes but that is anywhere I guess.

i guess I shouldn't care what others online think.

You'll find a few people here who have great knowledge of all horror movies. And, yes, you will find elitist assholes, and, like you said, you'll find that anywhere.

My own personal opinion is if you're starting a collection you should have what you like. Nobody else. People can make suggestions, but I always check it out first before I buy it. If I don't like it, it doesn't go in my collection.

What six titles do you have? And what are some horror movies you like? We can give you some help from there.

Like hammerfan said, you should get what you like. Getting a horror movie collection is all about movies you'd eventually watch again (or can't get rid of *cough* Amityville 4 *cough*). Also, like alkytrio said, post your six movies,a nd we might be able to help you build from there by depicting what you like (such as if you had A Nightmare on Elm Street, you may want to get some more from the series).

As for me, I prefer both generations. especially since 30-40 years from now, modern today will be classics then. It's the quality of the movie, not the year it was released IMO.

Ok I guess I'll list the ones I have:
From Dusk Til Dawn
Suspiria
The Wicker Man
Psycho
Dead Alive
High Tension (unrated)

I guess that's only five.

Looks like six to me...

But anyway- You've actually got a really nice little collection there, very diverse. It's obvious you will give plenty of subgenres and styles a try. So here's a little list that you could start with:

Halloween
Cat People (1942)
The Serpent and the Rainbow
House on Haunted Hill (1959)
Hellraiser
Bat Taste
Jacob's Ladder

Try some of those.

Hmmm...Bat Taste....sounds gruesome;)

More good ideas:
Alien
The Thing
Poltergeist
From Beyond
The Howling

Forget films and shit - we wanna know who these elitist assholes are, and why you need to start a horror collection.

First off, you have a very nice little collection there. Great way to start off! Anyway, here's more suggestions:

-Shadow of a Doubt
-Night of the Living Dead
-Dawn of the Dead (original)
-Dawn of the Dead (remake)
-Day of the Dead
-Land of the Dead
-Evil Dead 2
-Army of Darkness
-A Nightmare on Elm Street
-The Exorcist
-The Omen (original)
-I Spit on your Grave
-Seven

The last five were from personal opinion (them being my top four horror movies, not in order though).
