Irony......on the day of the long awaited release of Pink Floyd's DVD "Pulse", which I have every intention of picking up on my way home from work, it is learned that troubled co-founder Syd Barret has died.

perhaps syd has finally found the peace he seemed unable to attain in this life. . . a true poetic (and tragic) genius

That is really really sad. I was wishing upon a star that one day they would all get together again and do a big blow out tour, because I wasn't born while they were at their height (or I was way too young).

Left us with one hell of a legacy, though, and his work will live on...

I think Pink Floyd's work between Roger Waters and Dave Gilmour is their best, however.

Bummer. What did he die from? I love Pink Floyd, especially the older stuff.

No he didn't, I looked it up...unless you mean virtually...

Roger Keith "Syd" Barrett 1946 - 2006

The Syd Barrett Archives is temporarily closed in mourning of Mr. Barrett, we apologize for any inconvenience.

It is with great sadness that I must report the passing of Roger "Syd" Barrett, founder of Pink Floyd. The Syd Barrett Archives join his family and friends in mourning his passing. He was an inspiration to many people, myself included. Shine on Roger... Shine on...
He passed on Friday July 7th of complications related to diabetes.

I do believe he meant virtually. Syd Barrett lost his mind a long time ago. But he was a brilliant man before the madness took him.
He did write "Astronomy Domine" after all....:(

Well, this is shitty news.

Ah, well...Least the man had a hell of a ride before he cashed out. Not many people can say that, right?

Think I'll go blast some Floyd in memory, and if my neighbors dare to complain, I'll tell them to fuck off, I'm hosting a tribute.

Yeah. It's a damn shame. Some people just get lost.

Everything in MODERATION! And if you can't do that, stay the hell away from it, whatever it is. Easier said than done, I know, but still a good rule.

No way. Syd Barrett era Floyd is the best. Intersteller Overdrive is the best thing they ever did.

R.I.P Syd :(

Barrett was only in the band for three of their forty one years, and quickly became tiresome to watch (and listen to) as he aggravated his allegedly latent psychosis with persistent use of mind bending drugs.

Waters, Wright and Mason proved the real talents, and their coming together with David Gilmour made them progressive rock legends as they moved away from 60s psychedelia with several noteable concept albums.
