Investigators Identify Burned Body As 45-Year-Old Mother
Cincinnati, Ohio - Hamilton County Coroner O'dell Owens said Thursday afternoon that he's identified a burned body found near an abandoned home in Avondale.
Mary Jo Newton, 45, was discovered along Wehrman Street earlier this month -- just a half-mile from where 14-year-old Casonya "Sharee" Crawford's burned body was found a few weeks earlier.
The girlfriend of Newton's ex-husband apparently called authorities and said Newton was known to hang out in the area where her body was found.
"The reason this woman called is because [Newton] would usually call on the days that were her children's birthday. And she didn't call last week," Owens said.
Newton had two children, who have been in the custody of Newton's ex-husband.
No suspects have been identified in connection with Newton's death, and so far, it's unclear if her death and Crawford's death are related.
Information in both cases has been handed over to the FBI for use in a nationwide database.
