Boy, I'm glad I read the explanation before I posted a picture of my rack:p
I have my movies in a big cabinet under my t.v. I periodically go through and prune out movies that I bought that I didn't like or care about, so I always have room for dvds. My vhs on the other hand takes up four shelves on my bookcase....I have way more tape than disk.....

Follow the sun west until you come to the place it sets. Here lies the lake of dead childrens souls. There will be a ferryman whom will take you across. Do not help him row, or you will be damned to do so for life. On the other side of the lake, there is a forest. At the end there is a Manticore who will ask you three questions. No matter how angry he becomes, you must answer "These are the thing to whom myself I keep." After the third question, he must let you pass. You will see a cave of fire. In the middle of the cave lies an ancient dragon who never sleeps. You must sing to him the song of the dead, and then he will rest for the first time in 30 ages. In the heart of the beast lies my DVD collection.

I think it could use a healthy injection of horror. I'd recommend hitting up a pawn shop or local video store next payday. You can usually find some good deals like '5 DVDs for $30' or deals like that.

I got myself shelves which are deep, so I keep my DVDs and VHSs in rows, one behind the other.
There are 4 rows of DVDs one behind the other, out of which the first is visible here.
And 3 rows of VHS tapes, you can see the first row here. Most of my VHS tapes are pretty old (bout 10-15 yrs) and the covers of some of em have been torn, so I made custom-printed covers for em from my computer.

The movies are on the middle shelf, and VHS on the top. The baskets below the tv, and reciever are all VHS as well.

Here's another question: For those of you that do organise their movies, how to you arrange them?
Me, I have them by genre, then alphabetical within the genres. The genres I sort them in are horror, sci-fi, western, comedy, action, drama.
Like this, only alot more:
Angel Heart-Bone Snatcher-ReAnimator-Dark City-Tombstone-Bruce Almighty-Office Space-Assault on Precinct 13-Hellboy-Never Let Go-Quiz Show
Make sence?

I do in a different way each time I do them which since I have a lot isn't often but when I get really angry I do it to relax (as opposed to smoking which is what I used to do and loooooved to do). Hardest was by director, I gave up. I do like to keep all my Critereons together though.
The STE
06-15-2006, 07:03 PM
I just arrange mine straight-alphabetically. Too many movies kindof defy genre. The only time I deviate from the alphabetical system is with box sets where you can't alphabetize without splitting them up (MST3K sets, The Man With No Name trilogy, et cetera), and I have some where the case doesn't fit on my shelves in with the box sets, too, in this mini-shelf thing on top of my cabinet
_____V_____
06-15-2006, 09:00 PM
I used to be totally all over the place...some DVDs or VHSs would be lying in front of the comp for months, others on my study desk, some others on top of my books etc.
Since I cleared those shelves and got separate space for my VHSs and DVDs, I sorted them first according to my earliest purchases to the latest. But then my collection started to grow bigger and it looked a lot more confusing. So I went back to sorting em alphabetically. It makes more sense that way, specially if you already know a particular movie is of a particular genre.

My movies used to be a mess, then one day I had a cleaning fit and alphabetized them...it's nice that way.
On an unrelated subject, if you get a digital camera, you can just plug it into your computer and download the pictures, right? Does it make a difference what kind of camera you buy? Some of them are really expensive and some of them are cheap....I saw one in Wal Mart the other day for fifteen dollars....

I couldn't possibly take pictures of all of them...Even if I COULD figure out how to use this new digicam, because we have WELL over a thousand movies, and I would have to take pictures in the livingroom, my bedroom, Seri's room, Alex's room, the basement, and other various places around the house......
When Seri moves out, we are turning her bedroom into a horror media room, with all of our horror movies, books, and games in it...That should help free up the rest of the house :)...All of the walls will be shelved, and we will list categories at the tops...Like foreign, Indie, etcetera...

Hey check out my "DVD Collection" in my signature, you may hate me even more!:D
As for the extras, some good some bad:
Tombs of the BLind Dead: Alternate Opening Sequence "Revenge of the Planet Ape", funny as fuck how they tried to link this to the Planet of the Apes is beyond me! Trailer and poster stills gallery, with several stills that are not in the movie, so either shot for publicity or these are not truely uncut? They also make the films look slightly more pornographic than what they are so probably are publicity pictures to get the punters in.
Return of the Evil Dead: Just a gallery and trailer
The Ghost Galleon: A load of trailers and Radio spots and surprise surprise a poster/still gallery.
Night of the Seagulls: Trailer and gallery again.
Extra DVD of Amando De Ossorio. This has a Documentry and an interview with Amando and is pretty interesting.
You also get an updated version of Nigel Burrels's little book "Knights of Terror". Quite informative and filled with stills and posters.
Overall I reckon it is great value for money and if you like the Blind Dead it is a must have. If you haven't seen the films before I would try to rent a couple of them first as they are a bit slow paced and not to everyones taste.

^^ Are they the Mezco Reservoir Dogs toys dude? They were a bit to cartoonish for me.... (I think there's some 12" ones also)they brought out a series of Warriors toys but the style sucked, the Furie figure looked pretty cool but the rest looked really dumb.
Shit I wasn't flippin' out about the storage of your vids guys, I just didn't wanna see em get fucked up :) ya know how heaps of people carved up their vinyl back in the day and let neglected rare titles turn to shit.
The American VHS tapes suck anyways. Lightweight tapes that don't stand up to shit and lame carboard covers that aren't gonna protect it from anything. The Australasian clamshell packaged tapes are the ones to go for cause there heavy duty and the versions of the film are uncut unlike the UK stuff. Most of it is hard to find but its what I collect....especially the "Nasties". All my stash is still in boxes but I'll post a pic once I'm moved into my new pad.... there's even a couple of DVDs packed away in there to :D
I think filmmaker (I'll have to scan my Neon Maniacs cover its WAY cooler than the US one) said its the new vinyl and its definatley true. A lot of my stuff is just better on VHS (cover artwork/soundtracks/the cut). People dissed out vinyl back in the day and heaps of really collectable stuff went for dirt cheap (that in five or six years time became worth its weight in gold), the same is happening for VHS.
But yo.... its all just geek shit which is what all this threads about! Keep up with the pics guys cause its really cool to see the great and varied collections.
