Top 100 Scariest Horror movies ever

I'm going away this weekend. I'm going to try and watch as many horror movies as possible. Could someone give me a list of what they think the top 100 scariest movies ever are?

Like most list of that sort that I run into, I don't have much of a problem with the films as I do the ordering.

TCM II at 96th...Dead Alive at 92nd...Alien at 86...Suspiria at 55...Psycho at 44...and Haunting beats Exorcist and Shining...geez wtf?????

a 100 scariest list would be much different than a 100 best horror list... a lot of the films listed in on top horror movie lists aren't scary at all ie: dead alive, dawn of the dead, etc. where as w/ a top horror list you can include the scary ones, gore-fests, genre flicks, etc. i'd like to see someone compile a 100 scariest movie list; it would be pretty daunting. but to try and help you out a little i'll include my top ten scariest.

in no particular order:

- jaws
- the exorcist
- psycho
- ringu or the ring (take your pic)
- american werewolf in london
- amityville horror
- halloween
- the shinning
- cujo
- alien

wy dont you just do a search anf find one of the several 'top 100 horror movie threads' on this site and read it ?

Have we ever done a list that the members all collaborated on? You know, like everyone sent in a list, and then formed one for HDC? I know it'd be a large task (one that I don't have the time to orchestrate, or I'd offer) but it might be fun. If it has, can someone point me towards the thread?

dont know if there is anything in the scale you're talking about..

but i have seen dozens of 'the top 100..' 'the 10 best...' etc, threads


just go to the search utility and key in 'top 100' or something .. you'll get a number of replies.

as far as your suggestion it might be a tough go ... a lot of volitile opinions in here that are often completely opposed.

probably an invitation to start fights more than anything...unfortunately

I had to just search for 'horror movies' since 'top' & '100' are both too short for the search engine to accept. He seemed to want everyone to send in a list of 100 movies, though, which is a tall task for anyone. You might be able to successfully do it if you only asked everyone for 25, though. I dunno, it'd be a tall project, either way.
