OK - so, as some might have already read - i'm laid up with a painful injury. . .which makes it hard to even sit up, so i'm not posting that much . . . but I am drinking quite a bit (which combned with pain medication is excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

so, the other day i'm cracking a beer at noonish and my downstairs neighbor, who is kindly walking my new dog while i'm laid up, says "holy shit dude, you can't start drinkin at noon - its totally uncool" and i ask him "ok, when it is 'cool' to drink?" and he says "5 o'clock". . . .so, I'm puttingh is answer to the group - when is it 'cool' to start cracking beers open?????

How about never? But if you must, noon sounds like reasonable.

That all depends. If you work 3rd shift, cracking up a beer at, say 7:30am or whatever is after your workday is done and I think that's fine, although your neighbors look at you kinda weird if they're out on their deck in a groggy state trying to consume caffiene. :) When I was layed up after surgery a year and a half ago, I drank a bit too, yah the pain killer/alcohol buzz it quite pleasant, as long as you go back to normal when you have to go back to work. I gotta tell ya though, after a little over a week I started having some seriously WEIRD dreams. So don't panic if that happens to ya.

Just relax and enjoy and go back to your regular routine when you're well enough to go back to work. :)

You're mixing painkillers with alcohol? Do you want to die? I would reconsider that mix if I were you. ^^

OK, just don't freak out. My dreams, well I couldn't tell if it was real or a dream until I finally woke up. It was actually kind of scary. But now you know ahead of time, so maybe you can enjoy the experience. :)

Just gotta find someone on the same level as you. Ya know everyone is gonna have shit that drives ya nuts, and you're gonna have shit that bothers them. You just have to find someone that has shit that you can tolerate and they can tolerate your shit. How's THAT for a romantic description!
Personally, I thought I finally found it, but after 10 years, I don't know if I can stand him any longer! So, ah, maybe I'm not the best person to give advice in this area. :)

I agree with the dog-walking neighbor. However, my rule of thumb is that if you are on vacation (or your regular routine is interrupted in some way -- as in your case) then drinking at noon or even earlier is completely acceptable. A few other exceptions would be tailgating (a sporting event) and before a wedding or funeral.

Elvis' advice is to start drinking earlier and more heavily. You neighbour should shut his "Terry Too Tidy" mouth the fuck up or Elvis will be round with his bottle of Wild Turkey at breakfast time to show him what "uncool" really entails.

I think most people think drinking is like an evening thing,i don't know. I know some an elderly couple who have happy hour at 5 everyday. I say in 2 more months its time for me to drink, yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!! :D

I believe that its okay to start drinking beer when restaurants start serving lunch...normally 11:00 am, however;

If you are partying, say on a Friday night, then it STAYS Friday until you go to bed, whenever that may be. In other words it is not Saturday morning until you wake up (even if it is 3:00pm), so drinking into the late A.M.'s are okay...UNLESS you go to sleep! :D

Thats my story and I'm stickin' to it!

Bullshit...5 o'clock is the right answer if that's when you quit working otherwise it's anytime you feel like it.He's projecting, and a little in awe of someone with the resolve to get a little tanked at noon....I'm with Elvis on this.

And what the hell is so special about five anyways? It's not like beer/booze tastes any better at five.;)

Whenever you feel like it. It's not like everytime you drink you're gonna get overly drunk, if there's a current or upcoming situation that intoxication may interfere with then stay within your limits. If you're time is free, then do what you want.

I think anytime is a good time to drink....I'm a big fan of a cold one in the shower.

And the best cure for a hangover is just to start again ;)

All fun and games, but the reality is probably that by early evening you have had enough and don't want to be drunk anymore - you can either persist in drinking and end up ill or stop, which makes you feel like shit. So you go to sleep, and wake up in the early hours bursting for a piss, and can't get back to sleep. With your body clock fucked up as much as your system through lack of decent food, it can have a knock-on effect that can severely restrict productivity over the next few days.

Beer is too easy - get out of your head by writing a book while you're laid up instead.

Sooner or later my friend, reality will hit you square in the face like a jackhammer.

It need not be so harsh if you think ahead a little, and be wary of what you are left with when the laughter stops.

Cheer up!

I'd say even earlier than noon in some cases, like if you head out on the boat with some friends at 10 or 11... beer's alright. I don't know, the time you start drinking is irrelavent I think. Obviously you don't want to start drinking at 9am every day but who cares if it's once in a while... the whole drinking too early thing is because it's ONE of the signs of an alchoholic but it needs to be combined with the other habits to really an alchy make. Combining it with pain killers is another thing, I've seen people get f'd up beyond belief doing that.
