View Full Version : You decide my next part-time job.

Whatever the majority say will be my next part-time job. I'm tired of finding out "I'm not suited" for jobs months after getting it. Apparantly I can't choose a job I am suited for, so I'm leaving it up to you.

I'm so sick of dealing with asshole customers that I'm "not allowed" to be anything less than pleasant to.

Make a joke, be serious, but I'm still going to go with the majority.

Prostitutes make good money. :D

Sorry, I'm having a hard time finding a job as-well...

I think you should try finding a job that would not require you to deal with anyone. I'm not sure what kind of job that would be though. Have you ever tried being a nurses assistant? I do that and if you enjoy helping elderly or sick kids, its a good job. Whatever you do, good luck.
BTW, nice to see you around!! :)

I also vote for prostitute. Good pay & no one says you have to be nice to anyone.

I'd forget about anything where you had to deal with customers at all. Personally I think customers are 90% of what's wrong with most jobs out there...and the whole "smiling service" shit you're expected to adopt in the majority of these roles is annoying as all fuck...why be fake? I mean clearly, you're at work...it's not like you're having the time of your life.
The best part of my job is that I deal with ZERO customers, and yeah, it's a huge change from having to serve the masses directly.

Suggestions, if you're open to ANY kind of work:
*Pick/packing & assembly line work...you turn up in the morning, do boring and monotonous work, but there's no customers, the pay is decent, and I guess you'd build up the strength in your arms...these kind of jobs are available with very little experience.

*Get a forklift liscence, work in a warehouse and cart shit from one place to another all day. Simple work "take this, go here"...etc. The liscence (at least here) can get you simple jobs in a lot of places.

*Be a cook/chef, or just get any job in any kitchen...just make it clear you don't wanna waitress. Yeah...I'm biased towards this one, but it's all good by me. Probably not quite as easy as the two I mentioned before, and some kind of eventual certification may be desirable.
Suggestion: (not to be racist) I would advise against working for asian owned/operated establishments. In my experience, ANY family member of the bosses could take your job at any time, there's next to NO chance of promotion, and in all honesty if fucking drives me crazy when a bunch of people are talking to eachother in a language you can't underdstand...you feel rather out of place. So yeah, I'd avoid that, and to a lesser extent, south africans. They also tend to very much favour family members for promotion and hiring, even if they're completely incompetent, as I've witnessed before.
The kitchen thing is pretty decent though...but hey, I like cooking and hate customers - works for me.

*Vetinary assistant - yeah, you'd need a vet nurse kinda certification (not that hard), but if you can deal with seeing the occasional operation/death, it's a decent occupation. The customers are out the front, you're out the back.

That's all I can come up with just now.

Whoring ain't really a job though. Actually I guess it's no different then having your own business... ok the two prostitute votes count.

telemarketing.

been there.

couldn't do it without hanging myself.

that doesn't seem bad.

Most of my work experience is waitressing. I think I will not be giving it another shot this time though. I think it's worse because I always work at super fancy/expensive restaurants. More rich assholes who I could go on about for days on why the deserve to die in a fire. Also, I suck at cooking+yeah you pretty much need to have gone to chef school to be a chef around here. I wish I had the "passion for cooking" because I think it's anice job if you do.

Bartender

Did that at a stupid ass country club with asshole members. I'm leaning towards it though, no country clubs this time around.

Seems that your problem with costumers(as far as I can tell anyway) is that for the most part they've been a bunch of rich assholes in fancy resturants and country clubs. Maybe if only for a last resort you should try to get a position in a less prestigious(for lack of a better word) place.

You should try your hand at being an Office Assistant. If you are good at typing on the computer and can handle large volumes of correspondence, its the job for you. The pay is good, and you dont have to worry much about people hassling you. There may be a problem if you got a hyper-active boss, but given the situation and your ability to cope, you can adjust well to it. Its a pretty decent job, and it pays well without too many headaches.

My two cents in.

I'll throw in a vote for forklift operator. It's not hard, you're sitting most of the day & in most places, you wear what you want and you can listen to your tunes (MP3 player) while you drive. The only annoying things are the overly-friendly hick-ish truckers, but if you have headphones on they usually don't try to make too much conversation.

If you can still find a job doing it, be a projectionist. I think they're close to extinct as a job to themselves anymore. I loved it when I did it. I dealt with no one but 16 roaring projectors, sat in a pitch black booth & listened to metal all day. If you have a few projectors, (and most theaters that have projectionists anymore do) then it will keep you running constantly yo keep up with the start times. A little exercise never hurt anyone, though.

I can tell you for certain that you still have to deal with the animals' owners. I took a course a couple of years ago to be a vet assistant and one of the things they trained you on was how to deal with owners. Vet assistants are also out in front when people check in for their appointments and answer the phone.

How about a dog walker?

I have the same problem being nice to assholes...the best thing I ever did was start bartending in a REAL bar, not some stuck up country club. People give you respect because you're giving them what they want and they know if they piss you off you can 86 them permanently...if you're at all like me, the whole deal about being able to tell people to fuck off whenever you want is lots of fun

And if that doesn't work for you, try beating the crap out of rich men for three hundred to four hundred dollars an hour...no sex involved, and it's terribly entertaining...:D

Vagrant. You don't have to pay any bills, worry about if you are late for work and you can sleep anywhere and get up whyen you want. Also you don't have top be nice to anyone, ask for money and if you don't get any tell em to fuck off. If you run out of money there is always Bumfights or prostitution, but the later means you need to find somewhere to wash unless you get really skanky clients.

I like Cheeba's idea too. I was going to suggest construction worker depending on where you live, and if you can stand really hot weather or not.

I think you might be good with the public, but I really don't think you'd like it or could tolerate it enough to do a public job. You seem to have a low threshold for bullshit, and working with the public is mainly working with bullshit.

A labor job would be cool for you because you're ballsy as hell, and you wouldn't have to put up with a bunch of pansies that couldn't take your sense of humor, your style, and your attitude.

If you want, I could give you a tarot reading. *big sincere smile*

It's less whorish than prostitution, but still pays almost as good, plus you dont have to leave the house which is a bonus with gas prices being so high these days.

I had a friend who did that for a while, and they don't make very much money. Dolly needs something realistic (Do I need to repeat that? Realistic!) that could earn her some cash, but wouldn't drive her bat shit.

So, be helpful, gang. You guys can put on your thinking caps and come up with great ideas. (Bwind, that wasn't a bad idea, but it's just not that lucrative).

Working in a nursing home can be an emotionally rewarding job, if you go for that emotionally rewarding stuff. I personally like old people because they're usually very friendly (except the ones that aren't) and usually very lonely. The reasons they're lonely is because either A. They're family never comes to see them or B. They've forgotten that they're family comes to see them.

There will be little old people that you will fall in love with because they're so sweet and just treat you like you're their own grandchild, unfortunately, they may pass on and that's really really draining. There will be little old people, cute as buttons, that are meaner than hell too.

Hard work. Also, you have to deal with their families and like your tenets, they are either kind and appreciative of your care, or they're total assholes.

Dolly, I wouldn't recommend this job for you. However if may change your perspective on many things.

Be a professional Poker Player. Next to being a pro-athlete, its the most cash you can make for the least work! Plus (unless you are winning major tournaments) it's untaxed!

The best part is that you can work from home & practice for free online. Plus, there's tons of books out there to teach you the finer points...
