This fuckin idiot Wytch that showed up tonight makes a strong arguement in your favor.

I'm with ya. But I'm more into flaming stupidity than just newbies in general. Although posting a "Hi I'm a big horror fan and happy to be here" thread in the new members section does qualify as stupidity worthy of flames.

I haven't posted in the poll yet, because I'm not sure how I feel about the issue. I'm wondering what you guys would define as an acceptable post in the new members section, because just randomly going in there and talking trash to all and sundry is ridiculous.

I agree with Bwind that flaming stupidity is a worthwhile cause. I think mods can come down too hard on folks who are just standing up for themselves and the forum. This is our forum too, and I don't think that we should have to stand by and let all and sundry run amok all over us. It kind of irks me a little that we can't give a resounding "fuck you" to someone who's flaming our forum, and that we have to place polite nice-nice. I think that's ridiculous.

I mean, fighting amongst ourselves is one thing; it sets a really bad precedent. However, fighting off these jerks long enough so that someone with any amount of authority comes in and fixes the situation is an entirely different thing. It's not even in the same ball park. I'll tell you something else too, it's standard protocol on any other forum I've been to.

I voted yes, and am upset that I came along too late to get this rite of passage. It's like getting paddled as a Freshman, ala Dazed and Confused. It sucks at the time, but then the fact that you get to do it makes it all worth while.

If primarily, your motivation for flaming has a great deal to do with relieving your boredom, my vote would be an unequivocal NO. Surely you have better things to do than scouring the forums for offensive newbies in order to amuse yourself?

As a rite of passage, that's just like saying, "You've got to please us old-timers before we'll accept you as a bonafide member." The concept would be far better served by encouraging members to participate and contribute their opinions, making for stimulating and informative forum discussions that benefit this board and all its members. A newcomer would be more likely to join such a discussion and would likely click off to the next horror forum, because this one has nothing but bickering. But stimulating conversation is not always the case, is it?

All reactionary voting aside, who cares?

But sister boo..
fighting amongst ourselves is different..
you see ..we are like siblings..none of us are right (cept me..of course) but are too damned stubborn to admit it.
fighting with flamers is a whole different ballgame..they push ..we should be allowed to push back.
Actually ..after reading some of wytches postings..em gettin kinda convinced that the 2 nicks are none other than the same person.

Oops... Heh....That was the point I was trying to make. I do think that we should be able to kick the ass of any troll, as they are called, that dares to defile our forum with their bullshit. I don't think that we should have to have rules against that. What I meant to say was that I can deal with moderators digging in on us fighting amongst ourselves when we start getting out of control. However, it irks me when some of them (because not all of them are like this) start getting on cases about holding our own against people coming in and flaming our forum. That isn't fair. No other forums have to put up with that. Also, if I'm not mistaken we are in a democratic style forum, not a dictatorship.

Goddess bless Rayne, she's not about to let shit get out of hand, she does her job well, she knows what she's doing, she's there when you need her, and she never shoves her position in your face. She's the exemplary moderator.

I voted no. There is no need to attack someone simply for being a "n00b", it's just stupid and immature. I relaize that Im not always the most mature person either, but I try. Reinstating new member flaming is just a stupid idea, and one that I gaurntee you will not be accepted by the mods no matter how many votes this thread gets.

As for flaming trolls, I would vote no as well. What's the point in sinking to their level? Ive learned from our recent troll(s) thats it's better to just stay out of it and wait for 'em to get banned, hence why I deleted my posts against them. Once again, it's just immature and makes us look as bad as them.

i voted no - but i would say that people should be able to defend themselves - if someone starts talking smack to me i'm going to let them have a piece of my monkey mind

the problem i had with flaming noobs was it was automatic, repetitive, and, largely, unfunny... the typical was "hi, i'm johnny and i like horror" followed by 80 responses of "STFU Noob" and "Your mother sucks c**ks in hell" etc. what had poor little johnny done to deserve the abuse and why is an endless stream of STFU supposed to be witty.

so, in closing, insults that are appropriate, justified and, most importantly, FUNNY are cool in my book - mindless flaming of noobs is not

I think we should be able to say whatever we want. If I walked up to Wytch on the street and called him a fucking retarded fagget that likes to get buttfucked by his dad in between sessions of blowing his 2 little brothers, there would not be a mod to run up and tell me I can't say that. Freedom of speech means just what it sounds like it means. If I said that to someone on the street, they couldnt ban me, they would be on their own to retort, ignore me, punch me, etc... but the fact remains they'd be forced to deal with it themselves, without anyone stepping in and wagging a finger at them.

How about making the rule that flaming is allowed if it's warranted? I'm sorry mods, but this wytch retard deserves to be flamed when he sits on here all night and writes 1 word posts in every single forum. He's obviously not here for any reason except to try and fuck with people so why shouldn't be able to tell him to fuck off?

Or you can just make me a mod too since I'm online overnight when most of the mods are nowhere to be seen and that's when most of the problems seem to occur... I'd be an exemplary moderator too just like BR! :D (*Whispers to all non-mods* Psst. I can be bought.) ;)

Return, I totally understand where you're coming from with your last comments, and you're probably right. The point is, though, you did get angry and you did reply. So maybe instead of arguing, as you suggested we not do, we should just post one reply expressing our displeasure at the person who is causing problems We could just have that one moment to have our say, and get it off of our chest. That one post should suffice, and therefore, there's no need to keep arguing with some jerk. After that one reply, we can then ignore them All we have to do is keep the anger in check.

I'm not sure what to really say on this. I think if we tell every new member to fuck off and die we will be the only members on this site for as long as it remains. To say that if someone can handle a noob bashing they will stay, if not they will leave is kinda crazy. I think most new members that plan on sticking around and not being a total jerk do not deserve being told to fuck off. There has been a few i would love to tell to go away but all in all thats not my decision. The truth is no matter what the outcome of this poll the mods get and will have the final say...i'm guessing that will be NO! I really don't give a shit either way, i'm not really the kind of person that will participate in noob bashing.

To blindly flame a noob-----NO....its immature and counterproductive. Not everybody is hardened to forums and we could lose a potentially good poster. Sure...it can be humorous, but overall makes us look like bullys.....and we all know thats not the case.....for the most part.

As far as disruptive posters i.e. Darth Bane and the like....i leave you with a quote i found.

Choice of attention - to pay attention to this and ignore that - is to the inner life what choice of action is to the outer. In both cases, a man is responsible for his choice and must accept the consequences, whatever they may be.

So lemme see if I'm reading ya right....

You think that while 'flaming' should remain officially banned, the mods should turn a blind eye when the person being flamed is someone that deserves it? (Such as darthbane, wytch, and the other obvious trolls that show up from time to time.)

Seems fair enough to me, but is that what you were saying?

I know I'm probably the last person that should be saying this...but I don't think there's thst much of a point engaging these people. You say your part, they say theirs...etc...etc...etc, it's not like one party can ever really convince the other they're in the wrong. (Although I will interrupt the post to say I think it's particularly sad when someone asks for peoples opinions or impressions of something specifically, THEN says they're wrong the moment they hear something they don't agree with)
Besides, I think you'll find if there's cause...and if you really wanna rip into one of these people, you could pretty much just do it. The mods here generally uphold the "rule", but aren't complete pricks about it, of all people I should know.
The rules are (IMO) mainly containment based, there to prevent the whole forum being engulfed in something, and overall in place to serve the members more than the stupid shitd that come here to attack the place.

I think bashing newbies is a bad idea. If I was bashed, I wouldn't have stuck around. I know I don't post as much as other people, but I enjoy some of the threads people start. But to be bashed because I'm new? Not an attractive idea to get people to stick around. And what is "bashing"? Is it cursing someone out? I'll take it to mean that for now.

I don't curse at people. Well, I try not to anyway. Treat others as you would be treated and all that. I would never, ever curse at you or call you stupid for your opinion, and I expect the same treatment.
To make an analogy that someone already used:
If I was on the street and someone cursed me out for an opinion or comment I had; I would leave. Same here. A heated debate is one thing, but cursing someone is another, in my opinion.

Now, I know some people have no problem giving it or taking it and that is fine. For me life is rough enough as it is. I don't need people giving me a hard time at a place I enjoy spending my time.

I like it here. It's an interesting place. But if i had to put up with a lot of crap, I would leave.

Thanks for reading My Humble Opinion:)

I was actually expecting more flamage, but I'm glad I didn't, but I don't think I started off by insulting people...at least not intentionally.

If I had been flamed I would have said fuck it and been gone after 8 posts. However, I came looking for a forum that had a lot to do with horror movies and so far this forum has a great balance of horror talk and general stuff that makes it appealing to me. And you all seem like interesting people, that's hard to figure out if all we get right off the bat is 'stfu rookie'.
