HOSTEL:
<SPOILER WARNING>
There is an alternate ending which didnt make the cut due to "poor taste".
It will be released on the 2 disc special edition:
The original ending, ended with the kid arriving at the train station where the german guy platformed.
Instead going to the bathroom, where he is eventually killed (the toilet scene), Captain German exits the train to see his daughter waiting to greet him.
The kid then kidnaps the daughter, leaving the audience to beleive that he is going to kill her.
I think that would have been a bad ass ending.
It would have posed the question
: "are monsters made?"

Or...Maybe he was kidnapping her to save her from that freak...
Just a thought...

Well, thats one way to look at it.
I read that this particular ending was left to the viewers interpretation.
BUTTTTTTTT
The film makers wanted it to lean towards the darker theory.
They even set it up...
In the begin, the german is on the train when he first meets the kids, and then he keeps talking about how his daughter is his life and how he wouldnt be able to live without her.

When he is on the train when they first meet, and the German guy keeps talking about how his daughter is his life and how he wouldnt be able to live without her. Yeah...But...I don't think that he could actually kill her himself...Maybe sell her to the people that were doing these things, to make her dad think, "These people are real...What if this was someone I cared about?"...Or maybe force him to try to go rescue his daughter from someone just like him...I'd consider that a pretty good example of 'justice'...And, of course, he gets killed in the same way as the people he killed...The ultimate justice...

That pisses me off! I was told from IMDB that the original ending with Paxton stealing his daughter would be a deleted scene on the DVD, but I bought it and of course it wasnt there. I hate this stupid 2 disc release crap!
On another note , I think it would have been an awesome ending!
broadening the discussion a bit:
there is an alternative scene near the ending of Michael Mann's Manhunter which I always thought realliy made it a much more profound film.
Right after will graham has stopped the serial killer he goes to visit the family slated to be the next victims - but the scene is ambiguous about whether graham wants to see who he saved, or if he still has the 'killers thoughts' running around in his head. its dark and a bit tense and makes a great counterpoint to the bright sunny beach final scene.

Since The Character (can't even remember his name) had the whole build-up about how the girl drowned when he was young and he did nothing, I figured there had to be an actual plot somewhere. Connie (Japanese girl) yelling was first send up. Then her suicide (What was the point of cutting her eye out ? She couldn't run like that ? Stupid). By that time I figured Captain German's little girl HAD to tie something together (esp being the same age as girl who had drowned). Nope. Nothing to do with her at all. Wasted movie entirely. My guess is The Character will go to kidnap her in Part 2 to get at Captain German ala 'Kill Bill Vol 2' where movie has to be told in two part to get story across. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any story at all here. Thanks for nothing, Tarantino !

I cant comment, because i haven't seen the film mentioned above.
But back to hostel for a moment.
Another thing which WOULD have made the movie 10x better, is if they had a scene, where the "torturer" , is explained by the "manager" of the "club" that if he would like to numb up the victim via a drug so that they wont pass out form the pain, it is available.
That way, the torturer can keep the patient awake longer and actually have him witness the violence done to him.
Reason i say this, is so that it wouldnt be far fetched for the guy and the asian chick to be running around after being fucked up.
It would have made more sense.

Nothing in 'Hostel' made any sense. It was pure exploitation from the naked girls to the mindless gore scenes. There's no plot or purpose to it so looking for one is pointless. It panders to the MTV generation and financially it worked (hence a "sequel"). With cameras, editing software, etc. finally being affordable, you'd think there would be more decent films being made by indie filmmakers sick of the same crap. Unfortunately that's not the case. It's monkey see, monkey do (no offense, Zero) and there will be even more 'Hostel' like films because of it. Stop the madness !

Considering Ive yet to see Hostel, Im just adding my two cents according to the title of the thread.
I completly agree with Sadistro about 28 Days Later's alterate ending far surpassing the original, providing he means the storyboard that was never filmed. The other endings werent alot different, but that storyboard was incredible. And I hate Boyle's reason for not using it: He though it was too unbelievable. Considering the plot of the movie and the ending that he did use, I find that to be a pretty weak excuse. Could have made the whole movie alot better.
Another one is Madhouse. Neither ending is all that great, but the alternate improves it ALOT.

I love the alternate ending to 28 Days Later (not that storyboard one about transferring blood, that was just dumb). I like the alternate for Hostel, but that and the theatrical ones are both practically the same ending.
I also like the ending in the Director's Cut for Army of Darkness, that's hilarious.
"Oh no... I slept too long!"
The Ice Harvest
********spoiler**********
In the movie ending, John Cusack gets away with the money.
In the alternate ending, he dies on the side of the road.

I FORGOT ABOUT THE ARMY OF DARKNESS ONE!
hmm..
Yeah, i do like the "OH NO I SLEPT TOO LONG" - It's so "ASH" , guy can never get a break.
BUT
The showdown at the S-MART also kicked ass...possibly a little bit more.

I'll need to watch Hostel again with my brain turned off. It's definately not a thinking persons movie, but it does have some decent eye candy.

i think this movie was decent, but it definelty could have been a whole lot better. minus the first half, and make it only like 3 guys who have one room in some place and torture poeple. The plot was gay, with them getting paid and shit for it, and their was a whole lot of rooms. that was stupid. along with how everyone was connected, which was just ripped from TCM.

I like the fact that it's a business, I think that makes it more disturbing. Three guys who just like torturing people is one thing, but complete strangers coming together and forking over hundreds of thousands of dollars to torture and murder someone is fucked up.
