Brace yourselves, I actually want to talk about a horror movie for once.
In the original Alien movie, what is that thing in the middle of the crashed spaceship? Not the alien creatures of the title, I'm talking about the corpse that's sitting under that weird telescope-like device, the one that's got a big hole punched in its chest. The other characters don't really say too much about it.
Was it ever explained what it is or where it came from? Was it related to the other aliens? I only saw Alien 1-3 by the way.

Well supposedly that is the pilot of the ship, and its exploded chest is a foreshadowing of what is to come for the crew of the Nostromo--because this ship's crew was ALSO attacked by the multistage alien life forms.

The Pilot was also called The Space Jockey, and like the other alien's was also designed by Giger.
He was a different species and the eggs were cargo...one of which you are to assume got loose from the looks of the pilot. They really don't mention that at all in any of the movies.

I haven't seen Alien in a long time... I do wonder who had the eggs in the first place though. Who were they being delivered to and why? Did the person who sent them out know what they were and the danger they presented? Whoever was getting the eggs knew they were getting SOMETHING right? Were they planning on researching them or did the receiving party know what they were getting and had plans to use them in some nefarious manner? They should have used FedEx.

the eggs just came from a place of origion that doesnt matter ...
the movie suggests that the aliens require the assistance of another species to move and reproduce.
lots of these relationships right here on earth.
humans, being opportunistic assholes when it comes to dealing with science - constantly think they can tame dangerous things and use them to suit their needs (a la splitting the atom)
This was the theme in Aliens (the sequel)

I would really like to see something about the origin or how the eggs were collected. Obviously the aliens, who do require assistance to live, couldn't ship their own eggs out... they just don't work that way.

You're not suggesting Alien: The Beginning are you?
All four movies so far have been excellent in their own right, but the wheels are bound to fall off if there is another instalment.
Interesting query about the huge being in the crashed spaceship, which is tantalisingly only glimpsed at by Scott's camera and adds a layer of mystery to the whole Alien phenomenon.

it was the 1st image i ever saw of the film ..
i saw something in an article - maybe omni magazine ?
it featured in some artwork that was released before the film came out (or at the same time)

Not at all, I just like thinking about how it started and about the whole procedure that had to go into collecting the eggs. You don't think the Aliens let people harvest the eggs knowing they would transport them right? So the collectors probably had a rough go at gathering them. If they DID do another movie I'd rather see it progress the story, I do think films are capable of continuing without getting bad; I just think too many movie fans are intollerant to sequels. Anyway, no prequels wanted on this end.

so this is really another 'what came first - the alien or the egg' question to ponder ? :D
