I almost bought this one, but one of my biggest pet-peeves it having a sequel without the films that come before it. So until I find copies of TCM 2 and Leatherface, it stays in the bargain bin.

A complete turd of a film, that's all I can say. A complete turd.

I didn't hate it like most people did. It was still pretty bad, though. Not bad enough for me to keep it out of my collection for super cheap to complete the TCMs.

I see it's packaged at Wal-Mart with Hostel for only a couple more $$$ than Hostel alone. I might just go for that.

that film does come up with the goofiest things. who the hell would go up to a roof and than attempt to scale up a sattelite and then down the cables.

somewhat of a half assed revamp of the original:rolleyes:

The best thing about this film is the very brief titty shot about 25 minutes into it ;)

I think this was on HBO a loong time ago when I was 7 or 8. I watched it and I rhought it was pretty good. But maybe it was just good when I was younger. Maybe If I watch it now I'll despise it.

Don't bother.

I'm still regretting that $9.99 blind-buy.

^^ What?! TCM2 is a fucking classic. Up there with my all time favorite horror flicks.

The Next Generation however is a total piece of shit.

WARNING: SPOILERS

My reaction exactly!

Bill Mosley as Choptop is one of the greatest horror roles of all time! Sure, it's silly, but damn is it entertaining! I don't see how anyone could not enjoy the scene where they put the girls head over the tub and let Grandpa have at her with a hammer. Choptop itching his head with the hanger, eating the skin & then burning the tip with a lighter is hilarious! I owned TCM2 before I owned the original.

I hated the first one

TCM 1974--- 4/10 :D Seriously, I think this was boaring. The remake had more than running, screaming, and bad acting.

TCM 2--- 8.4/10 I really thought this one was the best of the 4.

TCM 3--- 7/10 Pretty good. I liked it "The saw is Family"

TCM 4--- ?/10... 6/10 I told you, I saw it a LONG time ago and I liked it when I was 8, but maybe I'll think it sucks.

TCM REMAKE--- 9.7/10 I think this is WAY better than the origional.

TCM: The Beginning COMING SOON--- I'm going to see this in theaters and I'll think It'll be good. The Sheriff is back!

Just out of curiosity, how old are you? I've been trying to do an age study vs. classical horror movies for a thesis. Realize that this is for my own personal use, and will not be presented to anyone.

Anyways...4/10 for the original TCM, eh? One of what is considered highly to be in the top 5-10 movies that shaped an entire genre, and you rank it that low? If you don't mind, could you please expand?

I might be a compatriot in a way, because I consider the original Jaws to be highly over-rated (a view that is not popular around here;) ). Seriously, I'd love to know why.

I'm sure it was just because him and (EVERYONE else) hates it... (that was a joke, read his other posts) hah.

I didn't think it was that great, but I sure as hell have a very high respect for it, and loved the last few minutes of it.
9/10

Joke? What is this "joke" that you speak of?! Are you insulting my country, or just Matthew Mcconaughey?!!:p

The angry rejection of Texas Chain Saw Massacre: The Next Generation is I think fashionable rather than through considering artistic merit.

Perhaps it is something to do with the familiar plotting - though this did not affect Evil Dead 2, possibly because it was made only a few years after the original.

Genre fans would treat now A-list actors Matthew McConaughey and Rene Zellwegger with disdain.

But why allow Scream and its sequels their success when another post-modern horror of around the same time offers decent acting, nastiness and gore but without such grating self-referential celebrations?

I think the contempt towards this film would be better aimed at the likes of Freddy and Michael sequels, since it is at least an honest adult re-telling by the original author and not a bland cash-in aimed at kids giving them just what they expect.

tcm the original is one of the all time greatest horror flicks and like the flayed one said it is one that practically formed the genre...wether his thesis on the age of people and the classics is tright or not i dont know but you have to respect it enough for those reasopns to give it higher than a 4/10.....excuse me im going to throw up...

Texas Chainsaw: The Next Generation was very clever because they chose to use Jerry Goldsmith's original theme for Texas Chainsaw: The Motion Picture.

But my favorite is, and always will be, Texas Chainsaw TOS, because that was the show that introduced Kirk and Spock and all those guys.

My thoughts on the TCM series:

TCM 74- One of thr greatest films of the horror genre, without this we probably would have no halloween, friday the 13th, nightmare on elm street, or any other slasher films. The atmosphere is tense and creepy, and the grittiness adds to the feel of the movie, one of the few perfect horror films. 10/10

TCM 2- I like this movie for 1 reason, chop top and his lines. Who doesn't love stuff like "lick my plate you dog dick?" priceless. 7/10

Leatherface TCM 3- My favorite of the sequels, I like the new family, it is interesting to see a matriarch at the head of the family, and tex is way cooler than aragorn. Add in the sweet custom chainsaw and this gets an 8/10

TCM the next generation- WTF? not only do we get a whiny rocky horror picture show leatherface, but we have to deal with the subplot of the secret society controlling the family. This film makes me want to puke. 0/10

TCM remake- This was a decent film, though it is not nearly as good as the original, I feel it doesn't get as much credit as it shoild from fans of the series. I didn't like how they gave LF a skin disease, but it had sheriff hoyt, who is right up there with chop top in terms of funny lines. It gets a 7/10

and thus concludes my thoughts on the TCM series, i cant wait for the new one in October.:D

Well said. I agree with this almost 100% although I'd probably give the remake an 8 or an 8.5 but everything else pretty much mirrors my opinion.

Original = masterpiece
TCM2 = Decent sequel. Kinda lame ending.
TCM3 = Awesome sequel. It's almost all one long chase scene with some new family members thrown in.
TNG = Pure shit. That secret society bullshit was the most ridiculous shit I ever saw. "We're responsible for every evil thing." Pssht. Gimme a fuckin break. This movie sucked.
Remake = Good, solid modern day horror film, but pale in comparison to the original.

The entire series of TCM movies have been really, really good...cept the Next Generation...

The first one is a classic..will always be a classic...kudos to Tobe Hooper for making such a fantastic movie...

2nd...was ok, a bit cheesy but acceptable...

3rd...is actually better than the 2nd, with leatherface coming to the fore, and it actually added a new dimension to the fam...

4th aka NG...plain sucked, anyone who saw it should get their heads checked...

5th aka the remake...was good, on par with the original, and I loved to see some real lovely camera shots like, zooming out of the hole in the brains of the dead gurl who shoots herself, Leatherface hanging a gurl from the ceiling, the skinned face, and of course Jessica Biel running around with her boobs jumping all over the place...:D

Waiting expectantly to see TCM:Beginning...hopefully it will be a worthy addition to the series...

The Next Generation is well shot, well OTT acted (particularly the two leads, in their second film together), and with a palatable amount of post modern humour.

If someone had to guide viewers along "how" to watch this film, someone might suggest to approach it as a slicker re-telling of the original - perhaps a little like Evil Dead 2 and Night of the Living Dead (Savini).

But one would never ask if the degrading gender-bending appearance of Mr Leatherface in this one is what really provokes the outrage in sexually uncertain teenage boys...
