Examples: Rites of Spring,Saetia,Hot Cross,ect.
I just started listening to music in the emo genre lately. Up until recently I though emo ment emotional, which related to bands such as Fall Out Boy,From First to Last,the Used, and so on. I have such a different impression now. Can anyone recommend some bands?

By the way check out--

I'm normally into mellow music, but I've listened to CTTS a lot this past month.

Just posers to me, no I do not listen to emo music really. I do like 2 of fallout boy's songs as well as 2 of all american rejects, if you call them emo.

i have a bright eyes CD .. didnt know it was even 'emo' till someone told me.
some of it is cool .. reminds me of the more glam 80's style stuff like Pulp ... but yeah .. a lot of it is a bit airy-fairy ..

I really don't like much emo in general, but the following bands are worth listening to:

Embrace
Rites of Spring
Indian Summer
Heroin
Saetia
One Last Wish
Combatwoundedveteran
Get Up Kids

Oh, and I hate emo scene kids, by the way. They're like goths, only their music sucks and their clothes are hideous.

Yeh those Fashioncore kids suck.
Emo is a word that gets thrown around way to much.
Embrace and Rites of Spring were pretty cool from what I remember...... been years since I listened to those guys.

as anything in pop culture - it starts as something a little more identifiable - substantial .. and then the masses get ahold of it without understanding it and all of a sudden everything is 'emo'

a kid not smiling is 'emo'

same thing happened to punk, yuppie, etc etc..

Thanks! It sounds like you know what you're talking about. Normally if I say emo the response is "OMG, I love emo hair and studded belts. StraightXEdge 4 life."

My hair isn't bad.

@Noctuary
Emo's are wannabe goth's. They're posers.

@Urgeok again
Emo isn't a kid not smiling, it's a kid with bleeding wrists. And don't try turning that around on Goth's. Preps do it more than goth's and emo's do it more than preps.

As far as the music, I personally can't stand it...

I like a lot of the music (sadly) but I am getting way to old and am way to lazy to have a 'look'. It's unfortunate that I enjoyed the music long before I hear the word 'EMO' and the fact that it has now become some sort of joke.

I don't understand these groups of people who all strive to look exactly alike (goth, emo, prep etc). Especially when they say it's about expression or being an individual. It makes no sense to me, but you know how stupid I am about these types of things.

Bad Religion said it best 'He was different, just like all the other kids.'

It's to early and I'm sure there was minimal sense in this.
