There are so many horror films released direct-to-video every month. You know the ones I'm talking about b/c they are easy to spot. Most of them look terrible and have awful names and cover art: RSVP, Slash, Axe 'Em, Blackwoods, Jigsaw, I could go on. I have not seen many of these films b/c I refuse to pay money for what's probably a waste of my time. Does anyone have any positive comments about any these films (not just the ones I mentioned but the entire market of dtv flicks of the 2000 era)? Are there any you think are worthy of a rental? Any that could have been commercial hits with a larger budget? Give me your thoughts.

I'll admit I don't know much about the direct to video horror market. I rented Uncle Sam and Jack Frost (not the one with Michael Keaton!) and I thought they were pretty good, as long as you take them for what they are.
I think Sleepaway Camp might have been an even bigger hit with a larger budget.

Hahaha Jack Frost rocked. I saw it in third grade. You should try the Grave Dancers series, they suck so bad that they rock. Well, I've only seen one from the series, "Savage Vengeance", but I was laughing my ass off all the way through. Give it a try. ^_^

I know how you feel. That's why I was hoping to get more responses from the people who are renting these movies so the quality ones can get some exposure.

Was it called Slash and was about a rock band? I've been thinking about renting that one and was wanting opinions on it. That's what I made this thread for.

I must be a dork because I'v seen just about every movie you named. My girlfriend works at a vid store so I get this shit for free. And yes, they are usually horrible. Every now and then a Ted Bundy or If I Die Before I Wake will slip thru, but it's rare. As long as it's free, I'll fastforward thru virtually anything. Jason Mewes was in RSVP, though. Slash about the homo rock band was pretty bad, but its production values were better than usual for this type of stuff. I hate STV movies that cast porn stars--can't take that shit seriously. Even Kevin Tenney did it in the truly horrible Death Factory.

That movie cracked me up. Especially when the town sheriff beat the shit out of the demon.

That's one of the best DTV horror movies. The DVD is pretty loaded too.
