here's a bit of a history lesson, after the major success of halloween john carpenter and deb hill were approached to make a sequel and yet another (halloween 3) carpenter/hill wanted to get completely away from michael myers (the 1st was their baby and was not written to be a sequel and felt they were doing the film and injustice) and just do different stories under the heading halloween (it's the title that sells after all) plus, john owed his friend tommy lee wallace a little favor and here we have h-3. okay, it didn't do so well and that's b/c ppl wanted michael. it is my opinion that if we were to look h-3 as season of the witch and not as halloween ppl might look at it differently. it's 80's-a little dated and cheesy in some areas w/ the whole dashing doctor and victim's grieving daughter but IMO the movie is good and really it was ahead of it's time. video cameras and cyborgs! and it was sinister! it was more than just "bugs in a mask" as i've heard some ppl argue-it's about witch craft and the sickest joke of all it's one that's, "played on the children." that's pretty fricken creepy. carpenter didn't have the advantages of speilberg and cameron w/ CGI to work w/
if you ask me cameron stole the idea from terminator from john carpenter ;)

well, if they wanted to get away from micheal myers they just had to call the movie a different name, like shammask or something
I mean cmon, why call it halloween 3? simply for the money, it's sad

I'm a fan of Halloween 3 - thought the idea of introducing a new season of human sacrifice and perpetual night through the ritual murder of millions of children was quite creepy. It hasn't aged well, but the idea still works for me, and the film has it's moments.
IMHO the rest of the Halloween films were redundant. Michael kills and kills and when you think he's dead he gets right up again. Sisters, Thorn, whatever, we get the idea.
What if Halloween 1 were the only Michael Myers film, Season of the Witch was Halloween 2, and any others in the series were stories that had to do with Samhain?

I've thought about that too. Our ideas would be different I suppose but they fucked it up when they made a direct sequel to the first one. It would be...weird............

i still hate h3. its boring and cheesy. i mean how they beat the guys in the end. pretty sad, but the very end was ok.
4 more days til halloween silver shamrock. even the jingle is cheesy. and it sounds so freakin 80s its not even funny.

That jingle, which played 15 times within 20 seconds....made me crazy....at the end of the movie I was so relieved. If I heard that damn thing one more time, I swear I was going to go murder anyone within a 10 mile radius of me.
H-3 was retarded. It wasn't even remotely scary, they tried too hard, and failed miserably. A bunch of Agent Smiths going out killing people....'OH GOD! TEH CIA IS AFTER ME! I KNEW I SHOULD'VE PAYED MY PHONE BILLS!" Give me a fuckin break.
How does it deal with witch craft? To me the movie doesn't even have a plot, it just has random people in suites going around randomly killing people, and some douche with a mustache running around with no apparent reason.

Me too Avenger.
Everyone bashes Rob Zombie's approach with House Of A Thousand Corpses, but I liked it.
Zombie is obviously a horror film fan like us.
Some of the newer heavily commercialized horror movies are to make profit and that's it.
Zombie's style seems to come from his heart.
Taking an old-school approach is something I wish more future horror movies will do.
The gritty old-school horror films are the way they should still be doing it in today's film making.
Zomibe went old-school with the material, but a lot of the ideas and the images are very creative.

The only thing ripped was the psycho family and the group of kids not having a good day. That's a formula though, you can't own it. A shitload of films utilize this same tool, they aren't all rips.

"RIPPED THE PLOT???" yeah, i'd say he did! i could care less if he's a fan of horror. 1st of all this thread is dedicated to halloween 3 and to me halloween is infinitely more important than any other horror film BUT aside from that...ppl act as if that b/c "house...." was made by the all powerful rob zombie that some how that makes it a better film. i can almost say within a certainty that if that movie had been made by anyone else not as many ppl would like it. that movie DID NOT come from his heart at all. i like his music just like anyone else but I WILL NOT say it was good. the movie was a complete RIP OFF of TCM! it's the SAME EXACT movie over again! there is nothing original about it and frankly, all the extreme violence made me sick! he is not clever! he is not a visionary! the movie is complete garbage! the more ppl defend it the more i HATE IT!

Well you know what Leslie Daher, that's what they were shooting for. House of 1000 Corpses is a film that they want you to either love or hate. They didn't want to make a boring-ass movie with middle ground where people thought "it was ok." They want those extreme reactions. The fans LOVE and the nay-sayers HATE it. So keep hating it.
And if anyone else had made that film the way it was, I would still love it. Although I highly doubt it would have looked as awesome as it did.

please, don't call me by my full name--that is sooo creepy--it reminds me too much of my wretched ex, " Leslie Michele Daher, you broke my heart! Not once, not twice, but three times! " YIKES! thank God that's over!

okay...under rated? Yes
worthy of the title halloween? No.
if them movie had a different name then maybe it wouldn't have had the expectations it did. don't you agree?

totally..i've already said that if the movie was simply titled season of the witch ppl would've responded better..as i've said before it's a little dated and in some cases cheesy but the idea is pretty cool and the movie was not that bad. i know i've seen waaaay worse! ppl w/ small minds who can't see outside the box think halloween = michael and though i'm one of the BIGGEST halloween supporters i understand what they were going for in h-3 and i don't hold it against them.
