View Full Version : Best movie of 2006??

What is the most recent best horror movie that you seen in 2006 or late in 2005? I rented a few b-horror movies that were absolutely horrible (so bad that I had to turn it off after 10 mins). I will never do a blind rent again. I also saw Hostel, Final Destination 3, The Hills Have Eyes and Slither. My vote for best movie so far in 2006 has to be The Hills Have Eyes. I really enjoyed this movie as it had lot of suspense, good acting, plenty of gore, fantastic makeup. If you havent seen it, you should definitely!!

Not sure. It's still early '06, so i'd have to think about it.

How about straight to video B-Horror movies? I've been striking out with those movies.... Anything good there?

PS.... Dont see "Fear of Clowns" (B-horror movie)!! Horrible and the acting is worst than porno acting. The makeup looks like it came from party city. And this movie had good reviews on the cover! what the hell!!

if the drivers are loaded properly, the camera should appear in explorer like another hard drive, then you just drag them over from the camera to the place of your choice on your harddrive

There really aren't too many good horror movies out there nowadays, especially this year. It seems the new trend in "horror" is foreign independent slasher films. I don't know if this is 2005 or 2006, but I thought that "Creep" was the best slasher flick I saw recently. I saw the hills have eyes and while it was mildly entertaining, having seen the original ruined the new one for me, the original was WAYYYYY better.

"Saw II" was my favorite of late 2005, and my favorite so far this year is "The Hills Have Eyes". I was very impressed. Number 2 goes to Final Destination 3.

I am waiting for the Hostel & Wolf Creek DVDs and the theatrical release of Hard Candy. I expect to like them all.

However, I doubt I will like any of those 3 over Saw II & Hills.

...It's hard. I spent most of this year workin' and I don't have see all the new stuff (Hills have eyes, Slither...). I've only seen "V for Vendetta", not bad but I can't said that is one of the best till I have seen more "new" films ( During my hollydays I would be most of them time watching films ) Otherwise, finally the next week Silent Hill arrives to Spain....too late but I still have some faith on this film.

ha i saw hostel.... if you like cheesy lines and a lot of boobs in your movies.. then um go for it. i did not enjoy it. but on the other hand i did just see saw ll, which i did enjoy although where i saw it the sound quailty was pretty poor. the plot was pretty good i thought but certain details could have been left out to add to the "game" but oh well. i have been hearing a bunch about the hills have eyes, which i guess my friends are making me go see.

I thought Hills Have Eyes absolutely stunk like an 80 year old sneaker. Boooooring!

Hostel was a pretty good movie with only one complaint from me (and it's a big complaint). Enough with all the boobies and asses and softcore porn sex! Jeez! If I want something to masterbate to, I wouldn't put in a horror movie.

The Omen remake was mediocre. Loved the original.

All in all, the horror movies of late all were not very good, although Hostel would have been a really good movie without all the sex sh*t and a little more character development.

Hm.

Can you really count The Descent as a 2006 film? I wouldn't. It definately is in the top of 2005 though.

I wouldn't say it was GORIER then The Hills Have Eyes (unrated) either. Definately not.

Orginal, well... I don't know. Probably. There is The Cave. And I have heard that there was a similiar movie made a few years back also. Not 1:1 similiar, but neither is THHE 1:1 to the original.

Better might fit. But I liked both very much, and I'd have a problem picking between the two, personally.

Of course the plots for either aren't THAT complex. The Descent does win by a bit by giving us a sense of background on the characters. But both are, underneath, just paths so characters can die.

Direction wise, both are pretty superior to most directors. I really, definately, couldn't pick between the two.

I'd say if you're a more "mature", "intellectual" watcher... you'd probably prefer The Descent.

This is just my opinion, as everyone has theirs.

I never understand this, what's wrong with well written characters that you actually have a chance to give a damn about.

Hostel for example, couple college guys on vacation in Europe, that's all you know about 'em so to me they're just a couple idiots in the wrong place at the wrong time and I couldn't careless what happens. At that point I'm just waiting to see if they get killed in an interesting way.

On the other hand in The Descent I actually cared what happened which really got me into it when the shit hit the fan, that raised the suspense level and made the whole film better.

Also The Descent was released before The Cave. Obviously I'm not sure of the other film you're referring to but I'm thinking it's Alone in the Dark? which was just being released while The Descent was still being filmed. I'm not saying it was completely original but what is anymore?

"I never understand this, what's wrong with well written characters that you actually have a chance to give a damn about"
Absolutely nothing. I never said there was. I actually feel the same way.

As for the other movies, the title escapes me - but I remember reading it in a thread... either IMDb or Dead-Donkey. It might have been Alone in the Dark. And yeah, nothing's entirely original anymore.

A) In America, where I live, The Descent wasn't released until 2006. Therefore, I consider it a 2006 movie.

B) It was gorier than 'Hills'. They gouge a thing's eyes out in 'Descent'.

C) It was original. At least more original than 'Hills', which was a remake, for chrissake.

I thought that I would bring this topic back up. I saw lot of good horror movies this year but what horror movie was the best? Even though The Descent was really a 2005 film, I would consider it the best horror movie for 2006 in the US. The ending was pretty lame but it had so many good things working. In a close second was The Hills Have Eyes remake. With Saw 3 that I just watched coming in a respectable 3rd place. Other mentionable movies that I liked were TCM:the beginning and Slither. TCM: Beginning movie blew away my expectations!

I havent seen An American Haunting, See No Evil, Pulse, Stay Alive, When a Stranger Calls (remake), The Wicker Man (remake), House of the Dead 2. I dont think I will be seeing any of them either.

I think that Slither was awesome. I remember going into it expecting nothing, but it was a pleasant surprise.
I actually enjoyed the Black Christmas remake quite a bit (I know that is a controversial subject.). I thought it had a decent amount of gore in it, and of course the incest scene was disturbing.

Maybe as far as the movie itself (which I still think was very good) but the contributions it made to the genre shouldn't be overlooked.

I'm taking this question as "best movie of 2006", rather then "best horror movie of 2006" as the first entry entails. Out of what I have seen (NA dates)... I would say; Pan's Labyrinth, The Descent, Running Scared, and The Hills Have Eyes (being in some sort of order... Pan's is definately my favourite, but as far as the rest go...) for the darker films, and Little Miss Sunshine on the lighter side.

I agree I hated V also. I think that the subject matter was a little to close to home. Glamourising terrorism as it did.

Besides, i have another bone to pick...No-one mentioned 2001 Maniacs..that film is great.
Some amazing gore scenes, lots of laughs and of course Robert Englund...c'mon, how could you pass that up?
