I just did a search, and realised that this incredible TV show didnt have it's own thread!
So, what does everyone think of it? It's easily one of my favourite shows, and it's a shame that Fox brought back the infinatly inferior Familly Guy instead of this! I'll agree that neither show deserved to be cancelled....but this was so much better! Sure, Familly Guy is funny, Ill admit that. But does it have the originality of Futurama? The amazingly cool characters? Plots that are actually interesting, rather than just set-ups for gags? I love Futurama, and the rumors that John DiMaggio is throwig around about a movie coming out next year are making my mouth water!
Here's a picture of my favourite character, who really should have been used more often. His episodes are hands down my favourites of the series:

Got the box set with all four seasons on it, nearing the end of season three. Love this program and definately cancelled before its time.

I guess it was just too costly to produce, I'm watching it right now actually. Am I the only one INCREDIBLY psyched about the movie?

Good show, I miss it a lot actually. My favorite episode is the one where Kif tries to be a tough guy to impress Amy. Am I the only one who wishes the Simpsons had been cancelled instead of Futurama? Don't get me wrong, I still love the (old) Simpsons, but the show is so obviously past its prime. Ah well.

The basic premise is a pizza delivery boy from modern day New York gets sent on a prank delivery, and accidentally falls into a cryogenic freezing tube, where he lies i suspened animation for the next 1000 years, only to wake up on New Years Eve 2999! He ends up finding his Great x500 uncle, who is a senile old man who runs Planet Express, an interstellar delivery company. He gets roped into working for him, and is back to the same dead-end job he had 100 years ago...
As for the chick with 1 eye. At first she is said to be an alien that was abanoned on Earth, but it is later revealed that her parents are a part of the mutant tribe who live in the sewers beneath New New York.
You can get the 1st season boxset for $15 brand new, and Im sure you could find it for less at a used shop. I highly recomend checking it out, if you're a fan of The Simpsons and other such shows.

5 seasons, 4 boxsets. Each set isn't a full season, they're usually part of 2....for example, Volume 1 has all of the first season, then some of the second. Vol. 2 has the rest of the second season and part of the third....so and and so forth. At the moment I only have Vol. 1, but Im planning on getting the next one in a couple weeks.

Since when were they making a movie?
Anyway, I too love this show! I have Volume 2 and am going to get the rest eventually. BTW- Has anybody read the Futurama comic books?

John DiMaggio, the voice of Bender, has been throwing around rumors about a movie for the last few months. Supposedly, he and the rest of the original csat have been aproached, and it will more than likely go straight-to-video in 2007.
Ive never been able to find the comics, though I have read a few Simpsons comics. Those are great!

I have a few copies of the Simpsons Comics (about 20) and I do enjoy them. I've seen the Futurama comics, but never bought one yet.
BTW- My favorite Futurama episode is War is the H-Word.
"Now, we can just use these Army cards for special Army Discounts and quit to screw you over, right? 'Yes, unless war were declared". *Alarm goes off* "What's that?" 'War were declared".

Hahaha, yep thats a good one.
My favourite would be either "Hell is Other Robots" or "The Devil's Hands are Ideal Playthings". My reasoning? Look at the first post:p.

ok, i have the 1st 2 boxsets put aside for me .. i'll pick them up this weekend ..
I like Family Guy, but I think it's broader, less thoughtful, humor is why it has made a comeback where Futurama has stayed on in reruns. There are a lot of sci-fi and horror inside jokes on Futurama that people who are not into that subculture just don't get. Just like people who have never actually met a redneck fail to see the humor in King of the Hill. There are also a lot of political jokes in the old Futurama eps that might go over people's heads, but I loved this show.
I can't pick a favorite ep, but one of my favorite scenes is when Zoidberg and Fry fight over the lobster girl and they play the Star Trek fight music.
The Eps with Fry's dog and the 5 leaf clover (is that right?) are thought provoking episodes too.

That episode damn near made me cry, no joke. The song playing at the end during the flashback...wow. What other Fox cartoon can evoke an emotional response like that? Have you ever felt truely affected after watching Familly Guy? How about The Simpsons? Not a chance. This has so much more depth than other cartoons.

Episode 11: How Hermes Requesitioned His Groove Back is right near the top of my list with the best musical number ever...thats right EVER!

That's my fave episode, but Zoidberg is my fave character, so I'm a bit biased.

i'm glad i checked this thread out.
i honestly wouldnt have given it much of a chance .. well, i didnt give it any chance because i've never seen it and assumed it would be a pale poor cousin to the simpsons.
due to the good press here i picked up vol 1 and 2 used and it is just as funny as the simpsons ...
i love Benders voice .. and the fact that he's called Bender because he bends stuff (not because he's constantly drinking)
there are certainly simularities with both series - more than just the obvious artistic style ..
once again a woman portrays the voice of reason ...

Agreed, Futurama is way better. I like the Simpsons but Futurama can do much more crazier things and get away with it because it's all spacey.

i cant say i prefer it to the simpsons .. the fry character isnt anywhere as amusing as homer ...
Fry's great great ..etc unkce is really just a combination of the simpsons grandfather and the scientist geek..
but i do love all the sci-fi references .. and i like Bender and the Dr. Sqiud guy..
my favorite scene so far was with the Leonard Nimoy head
'at least we have our dignity'
'dinner time !'
i think futurama is a little more hit and miss but once homer became the focal point of the simpsons (instead of bart) i thought the simpsons was a more solid show.

I still don't see why they had to cancel the show. It was a thousand times better than any of the new Simspons episodes.

would you believe the reason they gave for ending it was "lack of viewers"???
If there were people watching Simpsons and South Park, they must have got their heads screwed on the wrong way for saying they ran outta viewers...maybe another marketing gimmick which went awry...
The show will always be a classic...forever and ever...

you know those guys are capable of being very poignant at times and it catches you off guard.
it had my wife (a big dog lover) all choked up.
its not the first time the theme of loss and unrequited love have popped up in remarkably sensitive ways..
