I'm sick to fucking death of all the people who just want to bitch, bitch, bitch. I hear bitching all day at work, I'd like to find people who like horror movies. I think that's the reason many of us come to this site, yet 90% of what I read here are bitches and complaints on how bad horror movies or how stupid somebodies opion is.
SO PLEASE!!!
No bitchin' and complaining in here, let's leave this one open for folks to say how much of they love horror movies, no matter how bad they are, and not have to suffer some no it all's wise ass comments. Everyone is intitled to their opionon, but we don't all want to hear it.

I love horror movies! When you really like something you don't like to see it done wrong right? If you're a baketball player you roll your eyes when somebody misses a layup, if you're a wrestler you scoff and a poor fireman's carry attempt right? Of course we're going to complain but we complain because we know how good horror movies can be and while I'm sure nobody expects a classic in every movie we hate to see utter crap. Hell, I like bad movies (so bad they're good) and B movies but I still complain when I see a PoS like House of the Dead or Island of the Dead. That kind of pure shite makes me sick.

I understand what your saying..However I beg to differ. I come here PRECISELY to hear other views than my own. And i also enjoy a lively debate on the subject. I don't like people who personally attack others for their taste(Cannibal Holocaust threads come to mind). But for the most part i don't see that on these boards.

I love hearing other people's opinions, I've actually got six or seven movies on my repeat viewing list because of people here (including Blair Witch). I like seeing the other side of things, I like somebody mentioning something I might have missed.

I consider myself to be a fan of film first, horror second. In other words, I'm not such a blind fan that I can't recognize when something is wrong with a horror movie, or when it just plain sucks. And if a movie sucks, I'm gonna say so. I don't really see that as complaining, it's more along the lines of criticism. But yeah, anyway, I love horror movies. I don't really think any of us would be here if we didn't.

The point is to have discussion about movies. In a discussion people give their different opinions on the given subject and reply to other opinions. If everybody just came here like a bunch of robots saying how much they love everything then it'd be pretty damn boring.

i actually understand the frustration - i've experienced it myself.
maybe from a different angle.
I've posted in the past how I HATE the useless posts that refer to a film as gay, or boring, or 'it sucks' and thats it.
I believe that if you're going to commit your critique to a public forum for the world to see then you should take the time to articulate your views properly - or dont fucking bother at all.
i find 99% of the people who do make comments about the films are basing it on their broad experience of seeing a dozen films in the last 4 years of their existence. Does that mean they dont have a voice ? no - but have the level of maturity to express your opinion that's interesting enough to be read. instead of trying to look like a badass all the time. it might impress the other children but anyone over 25 is pretty fucking tired of the ignorance.
another thing to support the frustration is how the actual forums dealing with horror are pretty much dead. most people hang around in general discussing totally unrelated things.- thats fine too ... although most of them have nothing ever to do with the actual horror parts of the forum - ever - so it makes me wonder why the fuck they did join a horror forum to begin with.
i agree fully that there are a ton of shitty movies - and film is completely subjective. So things i like will be hated by other people and vice versa. in a proper discussion - that makes for some interesting and lively reading. however that rarely happens here. someone will make a post that they love a certain film and the deep involved well thought out reply will be 'it sucked donkey balls' wow - origional and insightful.
it will never change - you just have to ignore the garbage and search for the gems.
keep an eye on Pressure's posts. The guy is the ideal poster - insightful, extremely bright, and an incredibly elliquent writer.
too damn good for this place really ... but it gives me something to read.
plus he likes a lot of crap that no one else likes and can explain why. :D
there are some other good posters too - but they are few and far between.
so yeah - i understand the frustration.

I'm a huge fan of Horror films and came here for that reason.
Alot of the horror movies I've bought because of reviews from members here on the site.I thought I knew alot about horror films until I got here.HDC introduced Me to Italian and Asian horror films, something I had never seen before.
I found out fortunately that there is more to horror than Freddy, Michael, Leatherface and Jason.

I enjoy posting what I thought about films here. I will continue to do so. Of course, urgeok is right; a lot of us come to a horror forum to learn more about horror and express our opinions of it. It does become difficult to get insight about a movie when the person reviewing just says 'it sucks' or 'I really liked it.'
There's also the art of recognizing that if you write a long, detailed review, lots of people are just going to skip over it. I try to balance what I say between being insightful and not being long winded. Sometimes I think I do a good job. Other times I think I fail miserably. One member, ruebenmania I believe, used to do short, to the point reviews that I believe everyone enjoyed. I haven't seen him post one in a while, though.

although there isnt always cause to write a long post - sometimes the discussion warrants it and if the post IS about a movie I'll read it no matter how long it is.
but you're right .. most people skip over anything more than 2 lines .. which is very telling of (in general) north american society as a whole who don't want to put any effort into anything.
you want proof .. look at the general forum ..

i gotta agree with urgeok, but i think if you dont have something to say that is just flaping you jaw to hear your self talk(type), then just dont post.
also i think you should have to explane your reason for hating a film( not liking cause sometimes there is no reason, you just do) cause there is always a reason why someone hates something.
Example: House of the dead( probibly the most hated film on this sight)
i both liked and hated this film, i didnt consider this film a horror film( it wasnt ment to be), it was an action movie.
i didnt like some of the actor cause they were rank newbs, for example the character greg, when is girl zombied out he was freekin but 5sec later he bluntly and calmly said" what happend to her" in a tone fitting for a shit award show joke( extreamly scripted). not to mention the other bad acting moments.
i liked the pace and the action of the movie, it was a basic fun in the mud gun toating zombie romp, the theme of the film wasnt to scare you or make you think, it was to let you see a bunch of people over welmed by zombies fight back, with big guns. the gun fight was amusing with the buckshot bullettime, and the weird spining poses.
i found the movie to be funny, it was ment for people who love zombies but still have an open mind to new takes on the theme of the un dead.
also skipping long ass post happens alot( ive done it), it is very apparent cause the thread is going in one direction the n some jack ass post something totaly off topic and the other ass's post to his shit, then you have to go back 3 pages to find the main idea of the thread.
some people make mistakes and post the wrong thing( urge has done it, on my stay alive thread), which is annoying but its cool, cause when they relize they join the main idea.
the thing i really hate thought is when somebody registers, asks a question trying to find out about the plot or title of a film, gets a response, and never posts again.

that was completely deliberate ...
it was the 1st thing that popped into my head when i saw the title :)
i dont think there is anything wrong with having a sense of humor (if it is good natured) and a minor thread derailment can be fun. If the subject has worth - the thread will get back on track again.

I can see where you're coming from, but this "bitching and complaining" phobia you have won't be dealt with here. No matter where you go, you're going to hear bitching and complaining. And, just because we may hate on a lot of horror movies, doesn't mean we don't like them. Just because we love horror, doesn't mean we're going to love all of it! So please, just deal with the bitching and complaining, because there's no end to this no matter where you go.

Thanks Urge - I appreciate the compliment and the fact that you didn't embarass everyone else by actually saying "well, y'know, zero is really be greatest!" - i think it would just be overkill
On a more serious note: I agree that a lot of people have a very limited sense of horror film history - and they have a relatively limited point of view. . .I'd also note that there are lots of different reasons people come on HDC. I mainly read what people write about film (and always enjoy Urge and Pressure's posts as well as others) and then go post nonsense in General Forum.
Perhaps, if the concern is all the 'whining' - the problem is the need for more interesting threads comparing films, movements within the genre, national cinemas, etc. not trying to be all academic about this - but most threads are "Film X" followed by people arguing about why was great or why it wasn't. Perhaps to get better discussions, we need better question.
or just ignore this and I'll sod off back to General Forum.

everything starts from a simple seed ...
it just depends on how the origional topic is handled.
I stress my point re. the 'that sucked' 'it's gay'.
immature postings that drag any thread into the shitter.
if 90% of the responses are crap like that - then that overwhealms any points a decent poster may make .. and negates a good 2-3-4 whatever-way conversation.
humor is a good thing .. nothing wrong with having fun....
but i think that time and time again we see the reality here is that there simply arent as many people interested in discussing film as there are people who only come to life when there is some kind of conflict going on.
it kills me how people bitched about the new rules .. and how quiet things are as a result. it put a spotlight on the real reason most of the people actually came here .. to start shit, or join in on it.
that leaves us with a very small number of regular posters in the movie discussion forums. very small.

sometimes less is more -
for instance, i've noticed the proliferation of tournaments in general forum - which is fine, but the voting is just that 'voting.' never any actual discussion about why? for instance, if we had a discussion about which is the 'greatest' horror film (ok - granted its over discussed and probably pointless) - wouldn't it be more interesting to have people give their REASONS for voting. (and they should be more than 'it was cool' or 'it was gay'.)
of course, as you note, such a discussion would likely end up with just ad hominem attacks and obscenities. but, if people were really interested in horror films - i think good questions are the starting point. maybe things like: best decade of horror? or "why people like horror" or "what exactly is a horror film?" probably too rudimentary, but i'd be very interested in discussing issues like these.
as i said before, the main thing i note about the 'movie forums' is that they are often people listing films they liked and why - mini-reviews, which i read - but don't always have anything to say about.
all of which, i think, returns us to the central question: why do people come to HDC in the first place?

it comes from how people present themselves.

I can't speak for anyone else, of course, but I originally came here to have some intelligent discussions about horror films. Unfortunately, it seems that most of the forums (with the exception of General) are more or less dead. This is actually quite discouraging to me. I'm not interested in participating in an internet popularity contest, which is what the General forum seems to be. I'm sorry if this offends anyone, but I'm just calling 'em like I see 'em. Ah well, if anyone actually wants to discuss movies, I'll be here.

Finally, people are debating with wit and intelligance here, I thought the day would never come.
Some of you are getting it, bitching and complaining isn't the same as sharing your opion, I don't like all horror films either (Uwe Boll is the devil, and I thought it was Michael Bay for years), but I don't belive any movie "sucks balls", and yes, there are gay movies, but we are not here to discuss BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN. Some of you aren't getting it, but some fools never learn. It's OK not to like something, it's OK to say so, but you don't have to be stupid about it.
I know some of this conterdicts my original post, but I'm not the most articulate guy (or the best speller as I'm sure some have noticed).

Hey guys & gals.... I love horror movies....I'll rent any horror movie over any other kind of movie....Since the 1st time I have ever seen a horror movie, I have been glued to all horror, good or bad...Now I have to admit todays horror isnt as good as the mid 70's til early 90's...Anyways I review alot of straight to video horror because thats all their is...ALot suck and some are gems....Check out my personal thread for the gems....

 When I put that, that means I'm irritated and won't post in that thread again because I don't like the subject. This is the first time that I'm re-entering a thread that I said that too. And now I'm leaving it for good. Later....

By the way, I am just visiting this thread to find someone. People were complaining that some nut kept saying he was leaving the thread, but then coming back. Anyone seen him?

I wouldn't marry horror films but I would have sex with them all the time and try to keep a steady relationship going but unfortuanatly other movies would come around and I'd end up cheating on horror a lot.
