'Rambo' Robber Beaten By Pensioners
Australia - A sick pensioner and his 68-year-old partner don't sound a match for a robber with a "Rambo knife", but nobody told 75-year-old Leonard Jones and Helen Mackaway that.
Mr Jones, a former supermarket dispatch manager, has a dodgy heart and high blood pressure.
But seeing a thug throw Ms Mackaway across the floor of the home he built made him mad as hell.
It all started when there was a knock at the door of their Tingira Heights home in Lake Macquarie on Monday night.
Mr Jones said he suspected the man, who asked to use the phone, was up to no good - and he was right.
"He was a big bloke he's about six foot tall and about 16 stone," he said.
"Next thing he's got this whopping big hunting knife out, about a foot long and he said 'Give us your money, I want your money'.
"I said to him 'well I've got no money mate ... he started walking towards me with his arm out with the knife.
"So I thought I'm not going to just stand there, so I grabbed the chair and I got it up over my head and I let him have it straight across the head and he reeled back.
"As he went back Helen jumped on him, and he threw her across the floor.
"She jumped on him - it was good in one way because it gave me time to get the chair back up again before he could come at me.
"The second time I didn't care where I hit him, the first time I'm not sure whether I got him on the head ... but it knocked him back a bit.
"He was big and they're not easy to stop when they're that big."
Seeing Ms Mackaway, who is unwell, hurled across the room by the young offender was enough to really make him see red, Mr Jones said.
"I didn't even think about anything then, and I hit him again, and then he come again a third time, and he got nearly to me," he said.
"And then I don't know whether he saw my eyes or not ... he stopped and he turned and he bolted and as he was going out I took another swipe at him and I half hit him I think.
"The chair went through the wire door. and he took off like a rabbit, he went off down the street."
Mr Jones said he had never been in a violent situation like that before.
"I mean you have your little fights with people, but I've never had a knife pulled on me before, especially one that big," he said.
"I know it's a risky business but I've always said I'd have a go at them, I'm not going to just stand back and take it.
"They go around and do it to someone else and someone else and once they start they don't know when to stop.
"The police were quite happy, they took the chair away [for forensic] - I haven't got it back yet.
"They said I'd done well."
Police are searching for a caucasian male, 22-24 years old, 183cm, solid build, dark olive complexion, ragged blue denim jeans, black t-shirt with yellow writing and a bucket-style hat with a red brim.
