Pure opinion, but my favorites in no particular order:

Saw
Saw II
Skeleton Key
The Ring
The Others
Scream 3
Cabin Fever
May
House of 1000 Corpses
Devil's Rejects
Shaun of the Dead
Toolbox Murders
Freddy Vs. Jason
Seed of Chucky
Dawn of the Dead
Ghost Ship
13 Ghosts
Final Destination
Final Destination 2
Final Destination 3

Butterfly Effect & The Gift would have made the list in place of a few, but I wasn't if sure they are really considered horror.

Some that I haven't seen yet, but expect to make my list once I do: Hostel, Hard Candy, Wolf Creek

I picked 13 Ghosts because of the ghosts in the movie. I thought they were creative and well done. Just very glad they weren't all CGI.

Ghost Ship is on the list for the opening and the big flashback sequence.

I have no good excuse for Freddy Vs. Jason. :( Seeing Freddy on screen again made me blind to the actual quality of the movie.

I loved 13 Ghosts right up until the ending. The rest of the movie was great, almost as good as one of my personal favorite Hollywood horrors, the very similar House on Haunted Hill [1999]. Both films suffered from less-than-stellar endings, but it was 13 Ghosts that really suffered the most...

Anyway, heres a brief list:

Dagon
Session 9
Saw/Saw 2
Skeleton Key
Final Destination
Dog Soldiers

I think the problem that alot of people have with modern horror is that, in most cases, you cant even try to take it seriously. Final Destination is a perfect example. Fun deaths, good gore, very original twist on the slasher genre...but nothing more. Lacked any kind of seriousness what-so-ever. Personally, that doesnt ruin a movie for me so long as the "fun" is done well.

^^^

Im dead tired, so excuse me if that doesnt make sence:o

I own both as well and find them entertaining. They wouldn't make my top ten list though.

Haha, yeah. People's top 20 horror lists from 2000-06 are just a list of the horror movies that came out. There isnt enough to be picky.

Twenty, count 'em, and no FREDDY VS. JASON shit either. There have been many good horror flicks in the last five years or so, better than the five before, and for those of who don't think so, maybe it's time you checked out the wonderful world of other movies because horror dosen't seem to be your bag.
