Original Dawn Of The Dead

I own it, and have only seen like the first 35 min of it.

I keep trying to watch it, but i always dose off or have to cut it short.

Am i missing some great shit here?

But dawn has a weird TROMA feel to it. Especially in the begining when they raid the projects.

and it does resemble a troma film..in acting..and gore in certain points.


im just saying.

the movie doesnt seem as AMAZING as people make it out to be...

so is it over rated?

the grainy low beat beginning is creepy, and sets up the rest of the film nicely ...

it does get 'better' but that opening is very effective as far as I'm concerned ...


keep watching ... you'll feel like a goof once you finished it that you ever questioned it ..

It's not over rated and the raiding does seem somewhat low budget but nowhere NEAR Troma. I'd put that beginning scene alone up against Terror Firmer or the likes.

We're a loneley breed Skoof. Though I thought it was a pretty good movie, it is IMO by far the low point of Romero's trilogy. Not nearly as original as Night or Day, I thought it only got somewhere close to it's reputation when the raiders showed up. Perhaps it deserves another viewing, but Im not in a rush.

Its a very good watch Skoofx. Perhaps a bit dated but a classic in every sense of the word.

give it a chance man i think you'll like it.as for the troma feel i understand....the blood savini used was that 3M crap that was standard back in the day and the zombie makeups with the exception of the "featured" zombies could've been better.

that single project was the largest savini had done to date and would only later be surpassed by day of the dead.

...in short he worked with what he had and i(for one)think he did a damn fine job....watch the film.:)

I thought the opening was really good... Yeah, I think you should watch the rest of it. Sure, it may not be to your taste, and that's okay. But at least you can say that you've seen one of the all-time classics of horror cinema, whether you like it or not.

here's Ken Foree at the Festival of Fear convention last summer ..
i couldnt get that stupid grin off of my face ... it isnt every day you meet someone from one of your all time favorite films.

the guy was super friendly, funny .. nice as hell ..

I personally have always though Day of the Dead is far weaker than the first two films. I prefer NOTLD, but Dawn of the Dead is a very smart, often funny, film. I think everyone, at least every horror fan, should watch it once. I actually do know others that are not fans though. But I think it is the second best zombie film I have ever seen. I don't think it has the emotional impact that NOTLD had, however.

I just want you folks to know that even if you didn't care for Dawn of the Dead, I still like you, and if you were hungry I would feed you and give you something to eat, I would not hold your taste in movies against you and that's what friends are all about. Anyway, though...

The original DOTD is still one of my all time favorite horror flicks. I recently had someone trying to deconstruct my reasons for liking it to convince me that it wasn't any good, and to convince me that the remake was better, but (even though he's a perfectly nice person!) his efforts were meaningless to me.

Dawn of the Dead was made on a low budget and yes, it shows. But it's still a powerful story and it's well acted overall, too. It is one of the true classic films of the 70's, in my opinion.

i only care about the ending to this movie, where the bikers throw pies at the zombies... that was funny. but the zombies are too stupid and slow, so, even though most disagree, i like the remake better, just because the danger of the zombies's speed.

You must watch it. I dont really like the beginning myself but dont let that put you off. The zombies are slow and its low budget but thats what makes it a great horror film. Its a classic and every horror fan should watch it.
