I liked it, even though I heard it was kind of sucky.
I felt that it was underrated. I was actually fasinated by the trial and all the points that were made.
It wasn't too scary...but it was suspenseful enough.
It's definatly not a scare your pants off thrill ride, but it had a good balance.
And the fact that it was based on a true story... LOL

Every time I saw Larua Linney in court I felt like I was watching Primal Fear minus the interest factor.

this was'nt a bad film.i thought tom wilkinson and jennifer carpenter delivered their performances well and i liked the reverse narritive along the storyline.this film was'nt aiming for gore but rather a cross between "law and order" and a psychological triller...and i think they accomplished that.

And that's pretty strange, 'cause I love devil-relationated movies, but I hated this one.

As Ive mentioned on a few other threads about this movie, Im a big fan of courtroom dramas. In my opinion, this was above average for a recent horror movie. The court scenes were strong and well acted....the flashbacks were OK, but not spectacular. Overall, I really enjoyed it.

Yeah, I'd agree with that--I mean, it's a GREAT courtroom drama FOR SURE, but if you go in expecting to see a kick-ass horror movie, you'll be disappointed. It has some great sort of. . .atmosphere, though. Not a bad film at all.

Well, it's PG-13...but that's besides the point.
I thought this was pretty damn good. I also don't see why The Exorcist is regarded as one of the greatest HORROR films ever, but this isn't thought of as horror. Now don't get me wrong, this wasn't nearly as good as The Exorcist, but it literally had just as many "horror scenes" as The Exorcist. Every horror movie has slow parts, just because these slow parts are in a court room, or just because it's rated PG-13, doesn't knock it out of the horror bracket.

i agree, and i don't understand why people dislike pg-13 just because the fact that it is pg-13

Probably the mind-set of Hollywood-money-making-horror-movies-for-the-masses type thing. I didn't mind the movie at all. I it had some really suspensful and almost creepy moments. Could've been better, but it also could've been much worse.

I think this movie is very horrifying if you are religious. I thought it was very intresting and well acted film
well acted and creepy - but a bit tame and i felt that the ending played to heavily towards the religious side - - -i prefered the film when it was playing both sides as possible and leaving the audience to decide

i liked the fact that out of all the "devil films" i'd seen this film depicted the possession as acurately as the documentaries i'd seen. it was true to the actual behaviors. i appreciated the lack of glam exaggeration.
i think one reason so many people downed the film is because we have been spoiled by past presentations. this one dared to brake the mold and what happens? people piss all over it. i actually took to the merging or genres

I think most horror fans enjoyed this movie just as much as I did. And even the regular moviegoers too liked this movie. Much better than the latest crappy Exorcist movie... whatver that name is.

Well, at least with The Exorcist, the director wanted those scenes to be in the movie. It's not like a NOTLD thing where they created new scenes later. I think it enhances the movie.
But if you really want it, at the Circuit City near me they have the "Version You've Never Seen" and the original version.

very true Re. Bladerunner ...
I have a VHS and a very hard to find laserdisc of the origional cut.
(for those that dont know - the directors cut removes the Harrison Ford narration and has a small change in the ending - something the critics like better but ironically the fans like the narrated version better)

I enjoyed this movie very much. I would have to agree with those who have described this as a court room drama, rather than a horror film. It is a well crafted film with solid performances by Jennifer Carpenter, Tom Wilkinson, Laura Linney, and Campbell Scott. The fact that the film is based on actual events that took place in Europe, in the early 1930's makes it even more interesting.

I liked it despite how it wasn't really horror, more like a political movie. It was real, that's real evil for you, that's real demonic influence, that's how it really happens, infact, the real story of Emily Rose was less sunspensful then even that, as there wasn't as much levitating and eyes rolling in the back of the head..
Also it proved man can be a far more horrible creature then any demon, which may explain why you just don't see them in people's lives anymore. The greatest villain in the whole movie wasn't Belial, but the accuser's lawyer..

You don't know if that was real or not. And nothing in that movie was very realistic to me...

I think the movie was great.
It was based on a true storie but in the true storie her real
name was Anneliese Michel and she died at age 23.
Plus the exorcism took place in germany, not in america.
It's more of a thriller than a horror though.

I Loved the movie- I expected it to be bad as most of those new fake wonabe horror movies today. this movie had sence of true Horror, the suspence was beautiful- it just grabs you and squwizes you and maybe the most important thing was the fact that this movie was not one of those disgraceful remakes that are so popular this days.
Few parts with possessed girl reminded me of Evil Dead 1 and Exorcist. I am not falling for all those based on a true story stuff (I htink it is lame way to advertise the film) but even that fact didnt spoil the movie- it was true Horror which is very rare this days.
