I'm the kind of guy that WISHES some kind of zombie apocalypse would occur, I've got my own gameplan for if and when...I'm not obsessed to the point of stocking up crazy amounts of supplies or anything, but I'm pretty sure I'd make it through, and bust heads along the way....shit, I'd make SURE of that.
Of course, I can't say I'd like the potential of my loved ones getting eaten and becoming undead...and furthermore, would be sickened by the possibility of having the choice of when to put one of them down....but aside from that unpleasantness, I think I'd deal with it rather well, as would anyone who stuck with me, and yes, I REALLY want this...of all things fucked up that could wipe out a large part of earth population, this is the one I wanna live to see, bring it, fuck yeah.
But anyway, enough of the bragging about my mad zombie skillz.

So...what do you guys think the actual potential of something zombie-like happening is?
My take is that it seems possible, if not likely. News reports of supposed early voodoo type stuff successfully raising the (although more or less brain-dead) dead for transport/work, whateverthefuck that was about, dogs successfully bought back from "death", and I seem tovaguely recall reading something up in here about bodies reanimating after a certain incident...among other things...seems that it's becoming more likely over time.

Not to mention stuff that has occurred to me personally, now I don't wanna get all "conspiracy theorist" on ya, but I'm pretty sure that someone, somewhere in the world is working on a way to pull the whole zombie thing, and make it work. Maybe not with the specific intent to "infect" people, but definately as some type of weapon, even if only to inflict damage...don't wanna step on toes here, but hey, this kinda shit could eliminate the need for "suicide bombings", or fighting ones own battle. I can only guess that these things could take more damage than your average LIVING human. I just find it almost unfathomable that there's NOT someone, if not numerous people, and numerous organisations, of numerous lands, working to do just this.

Then there's the whole viral possibility. We've seen some scary, badass viruses out there...and they mutate, change forms to suit them best, try to get past our biological defenses in so many ways...not only us, but any living creature on this earth can fall victim. Being as it is that so many viruses can mutate (I mean shit - has anyone here actually researched the "bird flu" thing...it's FUCKED UP)...it's not all that far fetched that one could eventually have the ability to take control of motor functions, and live in a more symbiotic relationship with a living host, even if only in a very simple way.
So, assuming this scenario ever occured...a bite or abrasion would be a good way for this virus to transmit itself, or, it could even be through close proximity...scary possibility there. Sure, when we look at viruses and bacteria...etc, they seem more simple than that...but, they evolve, and they evolve FAST, all things considered. It could be all manner of potential catalysts that could make this possibility actually occur, exposure to certain events, radiation, environment, even viral fusion is a distant, but not alltogether impossible scenario, it just hasn't happened YET.

So yeah...my fellow zombie enthusiasts...
Am I the only one that's totally up for a fucked up zombie apocalypse? Are you guys ready?
What do you think the potentials are for something of this nature to actually happen?
Discuss.

I always believed that raising the dead is possible. But when the dead raise are they really hungry for human flesh? I doubt that. As for Viruses and Bacteria. That seems like a possibility. Although if a Virus was created to make people extremely violent, and could be obtained by anything from breathing in an infected persons air to an infected persons blood or bacteria in thier blood going into your bloodstream. This would cause the Virus to grow extremely fast.

Just my thoughts...

I woudn't say I want it to happen nor would I say I'm ready but I do have 2 guns in my house and I'm pretty fast, so I guess I'd be ok for awhile at least.

I don't think it's likely but it's possible.

Shit, I don't have any guns...the laws are a bit bitchy over here, but I'm sure I could take out a zombie cop or two. I calculate my chances on my anger issues and heavy/sharp objects, risk assessment, and how badly I wanna kill me some zombies, I guess, haha...

I forsee a 28 Days Later type scenario happening more than the dead rising from the grave although it would be kind of kool.

I took the test. Did better than 96% of people my age and gender.

I live in the stix what can I tell ya.

Its funny because I have been thinking alot lately of the idea of a disaster on a mass scale and being prepared for it.

Lets look at it this way. Iran is close to or already has nuclear capabilities. Israel is not going to stand for that and probably attack Iran. This in turn will piss off the rest of the middle east and more than likely Russia, China and the like and then of course the USA will defend Israel and then the shit hits the fan.

Doesnt matter where you live, its going to affect all of us. Personally I would like to be around for the aftermath at least for a little while.

I think it's safe to say since I own the Zombie Survival Guide I'm up for it. It's always fun with a few friends to plan while having a few drinks. You know, things like, "how can I make the hardware store safe?" or, "what about my house?" Take my house, it has five entrances. I could go out with my sawzall and chop two decks off leaving three entrances completely inaccessable. Then it would be easy to secure the basement entrance with a couple nailguns and boards. I would leave the one entrance semi-boarded so I could get in and out but it's in a mud room so if the door, even though it would be reinforced, began to break we could quickly shut the other door and board it up thanks to all the tools around here. If that were to happen and I couldn't get out for any supplies IF what we got right away began to deplete it would be easy to go through the attic and then roof and make a simple rope ladder to get up and down. Only thing is, if somebody comes back bit the ladder wouldn't be tossed down to them until the buddy they went with disposes of them. There are better options but if I had to secure this house that's what I'd do. It would take less than 3 hours to get all entrances secure and less than 1 to get 4 of them set.

I think this bird flu is really something we have to worry about. I don't know if it's as far out there that we'd have to worry about a zombie epidemic, but you never know, as you said viruses mutate and change form so we don't know excatly how dangerous it is, or could come to be. I saw a commercial for the Opera show about a week ago, I missed this particular episode which I really WANTED to see, but the man they were talking to was saying things like 'it's on it's way here' (as in the U.S.), and 'modern medicine will NOT protect us'. Anyone actaully see thaat episode? Could turn into some 28 Days Later shit, that'd be fun, wouldn't it:)

As far as me wanting something zombie like to occur, I don't know about all that. If it were just a few here and there I'm sure I could survive, but no, I have no game plan and would probably get eaten if there were ever a large population of zombies because I'm alone a majority of the time. I'd need people to watch my back.:(
It may be wrong of me to say, but it'd be kinda cool if just a small epidemic happened somewhere(away from me) and I could say something like that actually happened in my lifetime. How fucked up would that be? Our generation of old people telling zombie stories instead of the whole 'walking to school up hill both ways' thing?

I would totally be game for the apocalypse. If the Bible's right, that means zombies. And a zombie war would be insanely kickass.

The problem is what if they don't follow the Romero rules? What if they're the Return of the Living Dead kind of zombies? I don't care how fast you are, if you can't kill em' that's the end. I guess I'd only be willing to go Kill Bill on a zombie revolution IF I knew they could be put down for good.

My dad used to hunt, so we have a few guns around. Myself though, Id have no clue how to use 'em. There's a small mall a couple blocks from me, I think Id take the Dawn aproach if this ever did happen.

But really, I dont believe it possible in the least. 28 Days Later type thing could possibly, but Romero style? Not a chance, as far as Im concerned.

I'll bet the average suburban house has enough supplies in it for 2 weeks or so.

I know this guy, he's a bonafide survivalist. He has a place out in the mountains stocked with food and water. He's got one of those compact ultralite planes; he tells me that when the "balloon goes up" the roads will be clogged so he'll take his plane and fly out there, land in a field by his home.

I always thought he was a little nuts, until that big hurricane hit louisiana last year.

On the quiz, I'm an official survivor. 75%

If anyone wants some zombies, I can come over and practice necromancy in your backyard.

I seriously doubt we've got anything to worry about or look forward to, for those of you who would think this is a cool scenario. Let me add, "in this lifetime." Even the 28 Days concept is, to me, doubtful.

I would rather not have to deal with zombies even though I read the Zombie Survival Guide. I mainly had a good read. I think it would be a bad situation even if I did manage to survive and become High Priestess to a commune of people. I still don't think it'd be worth it, especially because a lot of the people I love and care about would be dead.

That sucks enough for me to save my grandest wishes for the end to world hunger or global peace among nations.

I'm sorry, Cheeba. I'm not cracking on you, man. You're really adventurous and quite creative, so I can understand your views. Personally, though, that's not on my wish list. Plus, I'd be more worried about a massive global small pox outbreak.

I got exactly the same.

Any zombie holocaust would have to come from some sort of virus such as 28 Days Later or The Crazies. The key to survive in this situation is to trust no-one and if in doubt shoot the fucker, find out if its a zombie later. Philantropic attitudes will just get you killed.

Off the coast of R.I. we have a nice little community called Block Island. I would gather my loved ones, hijack a boat and make for the island. Then we would have to clear all zombies from the island. Now that should do it , unless these were the swimming zombies ala the movie "Zombie"....then we could be in trouble.......come to think of it, the zombies in Land of the Dead made their way through water as well.......looks like i'm fucked.

The only way the Dawn thing would work is if it happened over a good portion of the night while the mall was closed. If it happened in the middle of the day while the mall was unlocked and populated then it's fucked.

Not to mention the high percentage of people who saw the original or remake of Dawn that would be doing the exact same thing.

Erm, good point. Maybe that's not the best idea afterall.

I guess Id just grab as much food/supplies/ammo/weapons as possible and board myself + my familly in the basement.

According to the Zombie Survival Guide, take over an apartment and burn or destroy the stairs going past the first floor. Them suckers can't climb (supposedly).
