View Full Version : Classics That Would Make Great Remakes

We've had a lot of remakes recently, and I'm sure there are gonna be a lot more...So, if you had your choice, what would you like to see redone?
The classics are old and many were restricted by available technology and prudence...We can do SO much more now in terms of effects, and the amount of gore that is actually PERMITTED...
Some were already amazing, I'd like to see a new version of them...Some could have been much better, I'd like to see them made that way, too...Some were great ideas, but lacked a little something, maybe they could be remade and have 'what's missing' added...And, for some of them I think just COLOR would make a big difference
I think Rosemary's Baby, Whatever Happened To Baby Jane, The Nanny and many more could be AWESOME if redone by today's standards
Oooh...What could we do with 'Creature From The Black Lagoon'?

War of the Worlds ..
I said this just before i found out there was going to be another bullshit remake.
i want a high budget version done exactly as in the book.
Peter JAckson should have directed it instead of Speilberg

The Beast With Five Fingers was a great 'old dark house' film. What about a remake of 'M' (I'm a big Lorre fan) and possibly a sequal to 'The Thing'.

YIKES ! that was a huge part of the charm and atmosphere of the classics you mentioned !

both Rosemary's Baby and Whatever Happened to Baby Jane were character studies .. i cant see how the benefit of todays standards could improve on either of those films .. they weren't about effects .. they were about tension, suspense, and relationships. Those were fine as they were

maybe ..... but it would be a completely different movie ..
Like old godzilla vs new godzilla .. the cornball looks and makeup were the reasons that that monster is one of the most recognizable and beloved horror icons of all times ..
the films that should be remade are the ones that deviated from the origional source ( War of the Worlds) or films that can actually be helped by a bigger budget and special effects.
but again .. keep in mind that it will become a different film and lose the atmosphere that made the origionals so popular...
in the case of The Thing - it succeeded .. but that was a rare exception.
How about the "Sinbad" movies. Now, i know Harryhausen's effects are a big part of their appeal but imagine what someone like a Peter Jackson could do.
I would also like to see a remake of "Trog" . I have fond memories of this from my childhood.

I could see that.
I have NO problems with The Rock. He definitely has the physical abilities and i think he has the charm as well to fill the void left from Schwarzenegger and Stallone. Yes i also know they are not great thespians, but they had their place.

i think he's a very likeable guy and would actually suit the roll fine.
I didnt want to like him .. because i think professional wresling is a joke ... but he's hard not to like ..

I'm a huge Lorre fan too, but i'd do anything in my power to stop a remake of 'M'. it just could never be done. it wouldn't have the same eerie, sick feeling. I really don't think it could have been done.
I might get killed for saying this, but if I had to pick a classic to get remade i think I might try The Cabinet of dr. Caligari (again). If it was done right, it could be very bizzarre and chilling.

"Curse Of The Demon" and "Nightmare Castle" would be my picks. I'd also like to see "Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark" remade even though I don't think it fits in the "classic" category.
But wouldn't remaking a classic kind of defeat the purpose of it being a classic? I mean, you couldn't remake Halloween and expect it too actually be any good.

I think The Bat would be the perfect remake.
First off, it wasnt an overly amazing movie in the first place. It was good, dont get me wrong, but far from perfect. The Bat himself was pretty cool with the pre-Freddy bladed glove, and it the setting and B/W atmosphere certainly did it good. But other than those points, it wasnt the greatest. None of the actors did the jobs they could have done [VP was esp. disapointing], so they couldnt really mess it up by replacing them. Also, considering this is all Hollywod execs care about, I really think it'd make money. The "whodunnit" format is becoming more and more popular [IE: Cry_Wolf ect], fill it up with a couple of the dying breed of good, young, attractive actors...and you're set. Providing they kept the plot basically the same, and kept the time frame, I think it could be pretty cool.

I think with the right leading man and director, they could do up a pretty good remake of The Conversation. Not for filmmaking technology, but for the technology used in the movie (by the characters).
and by "the right director", I mean Kiyoshi Kurosawa

hmm
i coul see them trying to remake halloween sometime... it would end up with something like
Laurie Strode- Paris Hilton
The girl choked in her car- Lohan
The other girl that got choked- Some model like mya or whatever.
The guy that got stabbed (bob i think)- ice cube or xzibit.
Michael myers (23)- some hobo they found in an alley
and thats the cast... or at least the people i remember
oh and dr.loomis would be some rapper with a gun.
and he'd be like.. die! biiiiitch at the end.

I am still getting over the recent King Kong remake, had to buy a new bottle of Tylenol because of that goddamn idiot movie.
Next we'll be seeing hordes of Gill Men who all know Matrix wire-fu and carry guns and shout things like "Death to the humans!" in Admiral Ackbar-type voices. Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh-----------------I can do without that, thank you.

There's another movie I'd also like to see remade. It's not really a classic as far as the year on this forum goes though. But it's:
"Gargoyles" (1972)
Haunted
01-29-2006, 06:09 AM
Sorry, Urge, I'm going to have to go with Rosemary's Baby as well, because Mia Farrow is a shit actress, and I've seen other films with her.
The new directors could really make something by incorporating new fangled ideas reguarding horror, the devil, witchcraft, AND a modern look at gender roles in the family... Shit... I'm having trouble expressing myself.
I know somebody understands what I'm trying to say. I'm hoping for an, "I get ya, Haunted. You didn't state it clearly, but I get ya."
But yeah, I'd like to see a good remake of Rosemary's Baby.
With some of the other suggested films... How could we replace Bette Davis. She's a legend.

i would like to see remakes of the old universal movies. dracula, frankenstein, the wolfman, CFTBL and the mummy. the catch being that the directors must stick to the original scripts. they can update some things such as updating the dialogue a little (maybe, i am undecided about that just yet). the only thing they can change is the special effects.

i was thinking that it'd be cool if they remade Burnt Offerings and went in a slightly diffferent direction .. where there was more emphasis on the house being alive..and being able to use parts of itself - for the killin' and such..
something like : how the house was warm but the furnace wasnt on .. and in a hidden room in the basement they find a huge organic heart ... something like that ..
.. or not. i dunno. just a thought.

Though I hate remakes (with the exception of a select few), I would like to see how they would do if they remade House by the Cemetary. It could be interesting. Though, it better be rated R (no PG-13 bullshit) and it better be as gory as the original (which was pretty gorey).

It is by no means a classic (lol) but I think that Alone in the Dark deserved another shot. The movie sucked soooo bad... and it was such a great game... justice should be done!
And this time they should try hiring a decent director, actors, and sticking to the game's storyline (and not changing it beyond recognition).
Damn that movie is probably the worst I've ever seen in my life. What an insult to the game!
