View Full Version : How did you do it?

On Monday I proposed to my girlfriend and for some reason she said yes, but with hindsight I've realized what a shit job I made of it.

I had hinted to her that should I ever ask her it would be on the anniversary of us getting together and as Monday drew to a close she was getting more and more pissed off that I had seemingly forgotten. Obviously I hadn't but thought stringing her along would be funny (it was but not for her!). Just when she was close to going to bed early in a sulk, with the romantic Assault on Precinct 13 (orig.) playing in the background, I asked her. Nothing fancy and no ring (which I had decided would be best if she chose it).

So, I've been wondering if anyone here has done a better job of than me or if anyone had been on the recieving end of such?

I've not found a woman, or know of a woman, that is mad enough to want to marry me yet.

This is going to sound corny but who cares I love her and I want to treat her the best I can. It was xmas eve 2004, our city park here is lite up beautifuly, and they have horse carage (spelling) rides through the park. Well I got a box and I put a single rose in it with the ring box ontop of it opened, and as we were riding around I gave it to her and when she opened it up she saw the ring sitting in it and her eyes went O O (wide open) and I asked her. It was sweet, now go ahead and flame me. :-)

I'm psycho, so I don't think there's anyone who'd want to marry me, either. Alas, I am also high maintenance. Sorry, gents.

Scouse Mac! Congratulations! I want pictures of the wedding.

Define high maintenance? Seriously because there's emotional & material. I've had both & I like emotional better. I don't think that there is a right way to ask someone to marry you. It really all comes done to both of you loving each other. The question is will you be there when the sh*t really hits the fan. Anyhow congrats man. All my best.. :D

I am sooo emotional, mainly because of chronic mental illnesses. I'm not really possessive, because instinctively, I know that is a relationship killer. However, I am moody, can go from 0 to Bitch faster than a cheata can go from 0 into a dead sprint.

Y'all probably can tell that I come from a good deal of money, but in a relationship, I can sorta seperate myself a little. I don't demand a lot of material compensation from a lover like I would say, a family memeber. I do like jewelery... lucky for my guy or girl, I like sterling silver.

Oh, and Soloman, I do intend to answer that question. I wanted to go into it on Monday, but alas and alack a' day, I have a sinus infection. I'll get to it.

I think I should publicly respond here. Well Haunted thats good & bad. Psiren is a very emotionally needy person but. I like that in my relationships. I was with someone who could go from firey hot to frigid in the blink of an eye. Psiren has caused me to redress certain areas of my life but in a good way. She's been a good influence in that regard. Emotion high maintenace also means I've had to dip deeper into the well to find the strength to support another person. So in effect psiren's supposed need has made me that much stronger. Strangely thats not a bad thing & Haunted theres no rush.. :D

I put the ring into a loaded shotgun, drove by, yelled "WILL YOU MARRY ME?!" and shot her in the face

I bet your lady has the best time in all the world. I would also bet that the two of you play off of each other and entertain everyone. I would also also bet that your kids are among the coolest. Right up there with Rayne's kids.

Shackled my ass...;)

Congratulations scouse mac!!!!

My husband told me he bought a special Christmas tree ornament and that I should take a look at it and see if I wanted an inscription put on it.

I picked it off the tree and then said"oh,it opens!"
Inside was a engagement ring,he came over and said "Now I am offically asking you to be my wife".

(He had already asked me 48 hours after we met and I had already accepted-story told in a previous thread:) )

Newb-you're hilarious:cool:

pfft. My "shotgun to the face" story was WAY more romantic than that. I already had the ring picked out and bought, I actually said "will you marry me", I drove over to her instead of doing it over the phone, she was actually in tears.

I think it just depends on how your relationship is. If it's one of those gushy romance things, then yeah, she's gonna want some big blow out propasal. I think most people want just something quiet and intimate out of no where. While laying in bed just talking seems sweet enough for me.

Congrats to you.

or if you have a freaky, nasty sex-filled relationship, hide the ring in your ass, and then when she has a finger up there, she'll pull the finger out and the ring will be on it

or while you're going down on her, spell out "will you marry me" with your tongue and see if she picks up on it

When in school one of my friends had that house and his mother always says she misses us lot going round more than her own kids!

Americanmaniac/Novakru/Newb: Very, very nice proposal jobs by the way, should have asked the question here before asking her!
