Teen Stabs Self In Bizarre Accident
Commercial Township, New Jersey -- A South Jersey teenager called 911 Thursday after she accidentally stabbed herself, and her pet was part of the accident.
The 15-year-old girl is in stable condition at a hospital. State police are still investigating, but said that the situation appears to be a bizarre accident involving a dog.
New Jersey State Police said that just before 2 Thursday afternoon, the teen, who lives on North Avenue, called for help after she said she tripped over her dog and was stabbed in the stomach with a kitchen knife.
"I come outside and I seen them -- cops and ambulances -- everywhere. It looked like they had someone on the ground working on them. That's terrible. I mean, dogs are clumsy, it could happen," said Bobbie Jo Bateman, a neighbor.
"Bizarre, yeah real bizarre, strange," said Aaron Kent, another neighbor.
Investigators said that the girl was home alone at the time of the incident. She was airlifted by rescue helicopter to a hospital in Atlantic City.
"She's a very nice girl, very quiet, very shy. I feel sad for her. I hope everything is OK with her," Bateman said.
So far, the girl's name has not been released because of her age. She is expected to recover.
