No that does help. I probably wont get either Resident Evil but who knows. Apocalypse is in the 2 for $12 bin at Blockbuster. The RE games always had badass storylines so I figured the movies would to

urgeok

resident evil 1 truely did feel like a game which is why i didnt mind it.
it was too bloodless for a zombie movie .. but it was still ok.

part 2 was total shit - despite it being shot where i live ..
it was so bad that even that didnt make it interesting

Thats Memento Mori... looks promising.

Thanks for the reviews. For anyone else, you don't have to review every single movie, just whatever you want to do is appreciated.

And The Haunting is the old version.. I know the new one is horrible

urgeok

the Haunting - origional is always very highly regarded .. dont go by me .. i just wasnt crazy about it for some reason ..

I have the Haunting (original) on DVD in my collection... Its not scary unless sounds of banging scare ya. Overrated! You should definitely start with horror gems like "The Shining" before you start picking up the modern horror movies. For some ideas, check out my horror dvd collection in my signature.

Juicy Jon
01-11-2006, 04:49 PM
Yeeeah, I have the shining and the exorcist. As far as other classics, well.. I thought they were on my list?

Is the Haunting just a bunch of noises and really not worth a purchase?

You do realize that Zombie movies are Horror movies right?

filmmaker2
01-11-2006, 07:39 PM
I do want to speak up for The Haunting (original)...I'm one of those people that loved it. Psychological, character-driven horror. Didn't care for the remake, it had too many effects popping up without reasons to pop up, and it added all kinds of weird stuff to the story for no reason.

U are missing one more vital horror movie that every horror junkie should own.....

The Omen...check it on amazon.com dont wanna ruin the story...oh and if u like that one...check out Damien:The omen II stay away from the final conflict though...unless u love the series....oh yeah and IV sucks....ass so yeah..

Juicy Jon
01-12-2006, 03:53 AM
Well I have a job and most dvd's cost like 10 bucks used so.. It doesn't cost all that much.

I was going to ask about The Omen. I saw the first one and loved it, I would probably get the entire series. I think I will actually. Hmmm..

And yes, zombie movies are horror, I just seperated them anyway.

I've heard alot of mixed stuff on Cemetary Man.. what's so great about it?

HORROR:
House of 1000 Corpses - Good to have (doesnt have much replay value)

Evil Dead 1 - Must have
Evil Dead 2 - Must have
(both on principle alone)

Army Of Darkness - My favorite out of all 3(yes i said it)

Hellraiser
(They are all good in my opinion - none as good as the first, but they all have their moments) good for late night viewings.

The Devils Rejects - Mind blowingly amazing(thats why you should get 1, cause 1 is nowhere near as amazing as this...but it kinda sets up the unexpected glory that is this move

Pet Sematary - Meh, i like 2 better

Session 9 - dunno

Prince Of Darkness - AWESOME

Candyman - stupid

The Hills Have Eyes - Hit or miss

Exorcism of Emily Rose - mildly interesting - worth a rent

The Haunting - Must have classic

Demons - fun
Demons 2 - fun

Cannibal Holocaust - good for testing out your gore handling capabilities

Day Of The Dead - amazing

Land Of The Dead - fun

The Return Of The Living Dead (1985)
Awesomely fun

Dead Alive - AMAZING!

Zombie (AKA Zombie 2)
A little boring, but has its totally kicka ss moments (PLUS the zombies are totally different frmo your standard romero)

Dead and Breakfast - One of the best movies ive seen in a long time

Shaun Of The Dead -Fucking Fantastic

terrific 'thinking man's' Italian Zombie film.
(english lead actor Rupert Evert - the rest of the cast is italian)

I say 'thinking mans' zombie film because it is so stylish it makes you think it's smarter than it is ... it pulls it off really well ..

it starts simply ..

a man lives (!) and works in a cemetary with his hulking 'igor-like' assistant. His job is to kill the dead after they come back to life .. which they do in this particular cemetary for no given reason ...

it gets weird from there ....

Dude, the original THE HAUNTING is scary as hell, in my opinion--in a quiet, classic movie kind of way. It just messes with your head--I almost went insane watching it.

Also, you MUST MUST MUST get Roman Polanski's REPULSION, although it might be a little hard to track down--in my opinion it's better than the more popular ROSEMARY'S BABY.

if you like arty horror I can recommend:
"Santa Sangre"
"Lost Highway"

I'll get Repulsion, it looks pretty interesting.

And I have Lost Highway on my list but I didnt think it was a horror film. I liked Mulholland Dr alot so i'm getting most of Lynch's work

Weird...

Well, it's supposed to be weird because the whole story takes place inside Franco's head. I think there were definately things that were put in specifically not to make sense because dreams and the like never make perfect sense.

I love it, I can definately see why some people wouldn't though. :p

its my second favorite horror film ..

You seem to have a penchant for movies that are hard to find Urge. Ive been searching my ass off for both of those, and aside from over the net, I cant find either. I think I may break down and buy Phantasm online, even though I HATE to. Always takes forever to get here, usually costs twice as much as if I could find it in stores:rolleyes:

Anyway, heres some mini-reviews of ones Ive seen:

HORROR:

House of 1000 Corpses- Pretty good. Nothing special if you've seen TCM, but still worth seeing.

Evil Dead 1 - Great, gory, crazy movie. Buy it.

Evil Dead 2 - Alot the same as the first, only better IMO. Ash is beyond cool in this one.

Hellraiser - It's a classic. Great gore effects, bizare, original plot, and the cenobites are pretty awesome here. The first sequel is good too, havent seen the others.

Session 9 - Get it. Im serious, buy it now. This is one of my all-time favourites, everything about it is great. The last line will haunt you long after you've finished watching it...

The Grudge - Ouch. Rent it if you must, but I didnt like it much at all.

Exorcism of Emily Rose - If you like coutroom dramas as much as I do, this is a must-see. If you dont like them...Id forget it. This movie is at it's best in the court.

Suspiria - Stylish, creepy, and gory. Argento ear the top of his game. The ending isnt great, but overall it's a great movie.

The Eye - My personal favourite Asian horror movie. VERY creepy.

Dead Birds - Moves really slow in parts, but the scares the slow bits set are are worth it. One of the coolest horror movies made in a long while

ZOMBIE:

Day Of The Dead - Not many agree with me around here, but IMO, this is head-and-shoulders above Dawn. Bub is my idol.

Land Of The Dead - Not as good as the rest in the series, but certainly worth seeing/having.

Re-Animator - Another one of my favourites. Really strange movie, but really cool. Highly recomended, though dont be expecting a typical zombie movie.

Resident Evil - I liked it more than most folks did. Not really much of a horror movie, but worth seeing so long as you like action, too

Resident Evil: Apocalypse - Basically, same goes for this one, only it's ALOT more mindless. I liked it.

The House By The Cemetery - I wouldnt call this a zombie movie, although I would call it great. Awesome ending.

Zombie (AKA Zombie 2) - Liked it. Cheesy in places...but what zombie movie isnt? Overall, it's pretty cool, not to mention fairly gruesome.

Dead and Breakfast - If you liked Evil Dead 2, you aughta like this one, too. It's in the same vein, but is a very original, crazy, funny, thrill-ride of a horror flick. Easily the best of '04, IMO.
