Mother And Son Charged In Savage Attack On Mother's Boyfriend
Hempstead, New York - A Long Island woman and her son were charged with savagely attacking the woman's boyfriend with a hammer and a 3-foot-long sword and leaving him near death, authorities said.
The attack happened early Friday at the Hempstead home that Ramona Chillous, 45, shares with her son Derrick Robinson, 23, Nassau police said.
Chillous got in an argument with her boyfriend, Sedrick Terry, 37, with whom she had been drinking, police said. She allegedly grabbed a hammer and struck him repeatedly in the head.
Robinson then went to his mother's assistance, picking up a large sword and slashing Terry repeatedly on the arms and abdomen, police said.
Both mother and son fled the scene but were quickly arrested.
Terry underwent surgery at Nassau University Medical Center, police said. A spokeswoman there on Sunday said she had no information about his condition.
"The victim is in extremely critical condition and he may die," Assistant District Attorney Fred Klein said at the pair's arraignment later Friday. "Both arms were nearly amputated."
Judge Vito DeStefano ordered the mother and son held without bail. Robinson was charged with second-degree attempted murder and Chillous was charged with first-degree assault.
