View Full Version : maybe I should get a job

Yeah, I was buying some stuff today, and I realized that the major source of my income was mowing my grandmother's grass, which is a) not year round, b) going to end since we're working on getting it ready to sell and c) starting to be kinda lame as a major source of income. So, since that being gone would leave yardwork at home and the bi-annual (that means twice a year and not every two years, right?) book sell-back at school, I figured this would be as good a time as any to get a job. It'll be easier now since I finally have a driver's liscense. Right now I'm thinking Hollywood Video, since it combines all my skills and interests (I know movies, I'm good with computers, and I can carry things and set things places like a carry things and set things places machine), and it's close (and right by school). Blockbuster is similar and closer (walking distance, actually), but I'd rather not sell my sell out just to be a small insignificant cog in a giant soulless corporation bent on raping and gutting cinema through hacked up movies on scratched up and sticky DVDs and banged up VHS tapes.
Anybody here work(ed) at Hollywood Video? Is it tolerable?
If i was your age and with your knowledge.......i would fuking rule Hollywood video.

Not sure about hollywood video...I had a couple of friends who worked at Blockbuster(sorry) ;) when I was in HS...they liked it...Like any job, it's gonna have it's good and bad days...it's gotta be better than working at a fast food place:D And I'm sure it's much better than working at a grocery store...just ask Alky ;)
I used to work at a music store...which is KIND of similar...kind of...sort of...and I loved it :) I basically got paid to listen to music all day and ring up a few customers here and there. Good stuff...not something I would've done for the rest of my life or anything ;) But it worked at that point in my life. Relaxing, no stress.

I kinda think I'd be good at it, if I was in a position to help the hopelessly stupid. Like, I saw some family renting Stuart Little, because their (nigh-infant-like) were sure it was Stuart Little 2, which was a few days away from coming out in theaters, and I was so close to telling them it was the wrong movie, but I thought it would be funnier for them to waste their money. But if I were an employee, collecting a paycheck, I totally would've helped them.

I applied at my Movie Gallery and heard nothing I think I would be good at it also. But I just had a job interview today for a pottery and I got it I will be starting off at 14.50 and im only 20 I think thats pretty damn good job while i'm in college, but hard work of course. I cant wait to start hopefully start putting back to pay for my movie I would like to shoot.

I say go for it. You know a crap-ton about movies, you need money... I think that pretty much covers it.

I just hope they're hiring. I haven't had time to check, since I pretty much decided to get a job tonight

Go in there and be all about plain-as-day but understated enthusiasm..."You rent movies? Well I'm the moovie-fuckin-MASTAH. I eat sleep and breathe movies. People will be lining up to ask me advice about what movies to rent because I just KNOW," etc. Of course make up your own speech, and don't scare them, certainly, but make sure they know that you ARE, the moovie person.

Actually, I was thinking more of calmly going in and rearranging their movies to make it twice as efficient and way less confusing, then calmly and politely asking if they're hiring

Yah. I need a job, too. I have NO income, and now I have to pay for a motherfucking $110 traffic ticket.
Fuck it. I hate cops.

Actually Hollywood Video and Movie Gallery are owned by the same company. I found that out when my local MV stopped having 5 night rentals for 3 something and went to $1.49 for one night. The guys/gals who work the store are pissed, and were egging the customers on as far as filling out complaint cards. I mentioned HV and was given the information. Funny enough, I emailed a complaint to MG Corperate, and of course, got the standard response letter back, basically blowing me off. The guy said that other people like the new rental plan, and basically, he didn't care that I said I would be going to netflix or the like if things didn't change back.
Anyways, I didn't set out to rant like that.......perhaps I'll go back to actually pretending to work. ;)

I also need a job. I'd like to work in a video rental store aswell. Unfortunatly for me, the only one that's not really far away is blockbuster and I don't like the manager there. Plus, I don't think they will hire you until you're 18 and I'm only 17(grrrr). But I say go for it. If you get the job, lemme know if it's decent enough to work there because I know where one is...... it's just really far.

Hey, if the Video Store thing doesn't work out, how about working at a cinema?...You could watch all of the new movies for free!
Actually though...I could see you at a Spencer's...Not sure why...
