Studies show that the majority of hardcore horror fanatics, have at one point suffered something to cause Post Traumatic Stress;

and that the horror flicks they now watch regularly, work as a form of therapy.

Any thoughts?

I somewhat agree.
I always loved horror, even from a REAL young age. I can look back as far as i can remember and ive always been into it. Renting the movies from mom and pop shops..running back to my mouse to pop them in with a buddy etc.

Things were normal and happy then.

Things still are.

But i definitly had one shitty experience in life, and it seems like i now enjoy horror much more when im stressed out and in a really bad mood.

i wonder if there is any connection?

Well, I watch them because I like to dissect girls.

Did you know I'm utterly insane?

American Phycho, lol

I agree with you Skoof, As you probobly know im just about to turn 17, but I went through the most terribal 9th grade year you could ever amagine. But before that year horror was the same as comedy, now it seems as if horror is my entire life. Im the only person in my school that walks around w/ a shirt that says " When thiers no more room in hell, the dead will walk the eath" And everytime I open my locker people are shedded with the images of Movies like Aftermath, Audition, Gozu, and Zombi 2. What im trying to say is I think Even though I love horror. I think I also use it to help me, and get me by life problems. Its a way to help release all the extreme hatred you feel towards others.

I don't think so.

I know I love seeing people get massacred and horror is definately therapy, so I want to agree with that theory. I think that it might be the parents and not the movies themselves that have to do with more horror fans having traumatic experiences.

You remember the kids who could never watch horror movies (or R rated movies), strict parents etc. I think having lax parents that don't know/care about what you're doing/watching has it's downs. I never had any limits on anything really, it's a lot easier to fuck up that way. Not that I would have wanted it another way, but my point is that without "help" it's easier to get into shitty predicaments.

I agree and disagree. Some peol]ple may watch horror movies to cope with their problems. But, I just watch them to enjoy myself! And for nudity! :p

Im gonna disagree in my case. I have had some pretty hectic shit happen in my life so that part is true, but I have noticed when I am really stressed out or depressed I stay away from horror movies. I also dont like to listen to music of any kind when I feel that way.

I've had a pretty normal life, i suppose.Just always liked the horror movies.......never gave it much thought.
Some of my fondest memories of when i was a tyke, was getting in my PJs [ the ones with the feet in them ] and loading up the car with snacks for a family fun night at the drive-in.Usually a monster double feature.

I remember my folks took me and my sister to a drive-in to see Batman... then they made me and my sister go to sleep when the horror movie came on. Don't remember what the movie was, but they always did that. They'd step in front of the tv every time the aliens showed up in Aliens.

I've had fucked up things happen to me but I've liked horror movies since I was a kid and everything was peachy and I don't like 'em any more or less now. I've got friends who've had a great life and some who haven't had the best of luck and they like horror movies all the same so I have to disagree.

Some have speculated, that the horror movie is, in part, a rehersel for death.
And I can well belive that. How many of us have slowed our cars down to take a peek at the wreckage on the hiway. To see the twisted shattered cars and bleeding bodies? To see the still warm blood flowing across the hot-top.To,to.. oh, God, give me a moment, just want to get my sipper down, ok,ok. Ya look at that! oh,oh, Ok. Im much better now.
