View Full Version : The Problem with Michael Myers
Ok, Halloween is a good series. Well, 3-6 was kind of crap, but for the most part the movies are good. I like the style Myers has with being in a room about 10 feet from you as you walk by and don't even see him. Usually they don't play any sound effects or music at the time that they show him, and I like that much better than some kind of loud effect at the time.
But, the problem with Myers is that they have never explained why he can survive EVERYTHING. He is a guy who is a lunatic. We get that much so far, but why does that mean that he can suddenly survive shotgun blasts (his clothes never rip either, did you notice?), throw human beings far distances, and other odd things he does. Jason, Freddy, Candyman, Pinhead....they've all been explained.
Jason: Living Dead with regenerative ability
Freddy: Possessed by Demons
Candyman: He's basically a ghost
Pinhead: Dur.
Michael Myers: Input Text Here
They tried to answer it in part 6, but that didn't hold water and the movie wasn't that great. I'd like to see some explination of why he can do the stuff he can do.
Also, the one handed pull up thing is getting old already. Once was great!....twice was like they couldn't think of anything else to do. I'd like to know where his legs go when he does the pull up though. Wouldn't they be dangling down below him?
Any, blah.

MICHAEL MYERS IS POSESSED JUST LIKE FREDDY.
IT'S CALLED THE CURSE OF THE THORN WHICH IS A CONSTALATION IN THE SKY THAT SHOWS UP ON HALLOWEEN AND I'M NOT TO UPDATED ON THE CURSE OF MICHAEL MYERS (PART 6) HAVE'NT SEEN IT IN AWHILE BUT THE SOMETHING HAVING TO DO WITH THE CURSE MAKES HIM GO AFTER HIS FAMILY. THAT'S WHY HE CAN SURVIVE EVERYTHING CAUSE HE'S POSESSED THAT SHOULD ALSO EXPLAIN THE SUPERHUMAN STRENGTH YOU ASKED ABOUT. HE'S NOT JUST A ''LUNATIC'' HE'S BASICALLY A DEMON. AND IF YOU WATCH THE CURSE OF MICHAEL MYERS AND REALLY PAY ATTENTION YOU MIGHT UNDERSTAND IT CAUSE IT TOOK ME AWHILE TO PUT IT ALL TOGETHER. MYERS HAS BEEN EXPLAINED YOU JUST DID'NT UNDERSTAND IT THAT'S ALL.

I HAVE THE SAME QUESTION ABOUT PINHEAD.
CAN SOMEBODY TELL ME WHAT THE BOX IS ALL ABOUT?

First, that movie is treated like Friday the 13th part 8: like it never happened. I saw that movie. I have it on tape, I went to the theater and saw it, and it comes on Starz about ever other night now. I've seen it.
Michael Myers has always been based around the idea that he is a lunatic. The Thorn thing wasn't brought up until part 5, and never discussed until part 6. From what they have said, they talked about a child being selected to be sacrificed by didn't talk about him being possessed, and if so never meantioned what he was possessed by. A druid curse doesn't mean you live forever unless it states that you live forever. H20 and Resurrection (Homecoming) acted as if 3-6 never happened, so if that is the case, anything from part 6 can not be considered in an explination for Myers.

The box is used as a gateway. It is used kind of like a Quija board would but it only calls them. Have you seen part 4? That is Bloodline. If you haven't check that one out. They explain the point of the box in that one, but in part 2 they explain what happened to the guy that became Pinhead. He played with the box and was taken just like Frank and the others, but he was turned into a Cenobite. I'm not sure why he is the leader though.

I GET WHAT YOU'RE SAYING BUT YOU GOTTA REALIZE THAT AFTER THE CURSE OF MICHAEL MYERS H2O AND RESURRECTION ARE COMMERCIAL MOVIES AKKAD IS'NT WORRING ABOUT MAKING A HORROR MOVIE HE'S WORRING ABOUT MAKING MONEY.
LOOK AT THE FACTS ALL GOOD SLASHER MOVIES CONSIST OF:
A CAST OF UNKNOWN ACTORS WHO'S ONLY PURPOSE IS TO GET HACKED UP AND ONE OR TWO B RATED ACTORS TO CARRY THE MOVIE.
STUPID TEENAGERS.
ONE OR TWO HOT SHOT ASSHOLES WHO THINK THEY'RE GODS GIFT TO WOMEN WHO EVERYBODY LOVES TO SEE GET KILLED.
SOME LITTLE KID WHO NOBODY LISTENS TO UNTIL THEY HAVE A KNIFE IN THIER THROAT.
CHEESY SPECIAL EFFECTS
A GOOD DIRECTOR MAKING UP FOR A WEAK SCRIPT
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST A RUTHLESS AND RELENTLESS KILLER.
H20 HAS A CAST FULL OF VERY WELL KNOWN ACTORS(JOSH HARTNETT-THE CUTE CHICK FROM DAWSON'S CREEK-JAMIE LEE CURTIS-LL COOL J) THEY DID'NT SPEND MONEY ON A GOOD DIRECTOR TO MAKE UP FOR WHAT WAS A WEAK SCRIPT.
RESSUECTION ALSO HAD A BIG CAST OF PEOPLE AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD BUSTA RHYMES BEAT THE HELL OUTTA MICHAEL MYERS AND THAT'S AFTER HE WALKED UP TO HIM AND GOT PUNKED I MEAN SERIOULY THOSE LAST TWO WERE JUST MONEY MAKERS THEY WERE'NT WORRING ABOUT STICKING TO THE STORY THEY WERE TRING TO MAKE MONEY I'M SURE THAT NEXT YEAR WILL BE NO DIFFERENT WHEN THE 9TH ONE COMES OUT.
But, that still doesn't affect what I said. The reasons for making the movies don't matter. Ever since part 8 of Friday the 13th, they have acted like the one before each sequel never happened. That is why I don't go with the theory they gave in part 9.
Josh Harrnet wasn't well known at the time of that movie by the way. H2O had a bette script than part 5 did actually. I just finished watchng 5 about a half an hour ago (for probably the 10th time), and the story for it and 4 sucked. 6 had problems in it as well, but mostly because of the screwy backstory they give to Michael. They need to stick with one idea. That is the only problem I've ever had with the series. They keep screwing with his backstory.
Oh, and Donald Pleasance was a big name from start to finish. That and I had no idea who that girl from Dawsons Creek was because I've never seen the show. It occured to me one day when I read something about the movie though.

He is so incredably BORING!!!! ANY of the other classic killers could blow him away like a feather!!! "and I'm actualy giving Jason some credit here, when his movies are also boring" Plus we really nead Michael Myers anyway, Jason is basicaly the same only with a MUCH better story line!

deepink i partly agree with you dave, although they did do the breathing thing with Mike sometimes, like at the end of the first one. I do like Mike as a villian however, he is one of my favorites but one thing still baffles me about him... why did he kill his sis in the first place?

Jason is a zombie by all definition of a horror movie zombie. Those other movies are good, but I don't see how they would be any more exciting than Halloween.

I'm not sure what you mean by the breathing thing. Mike is pretty good as a villian. I like him, but I wish they would explain him a little better and leave the backstory as one idea. I've always wondered the samething though, about his sis. And what happened to Laurie's parents?

The answer to your question about Michael is CLEARLY answered in parts 1 and 2. Dr. Loomis refers to MM as "pure evil" on numerous occasions. Mike is the Devil incarnate. He IS evil. Watch them again.
And Kawaiidragonfoe, Mike killed his sister because she had sex. Plain and simple.

AND THIS IS A EXAMPLE OF SOMEONE I LIKE THEY JUST COME ON THE FORUM AND SAY WHAT THEY WANT TO SAY WITHOUT WORRING ABOUT GETTING RIPPED ABOUT IT...
AND WITH THAT SAID YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT CAUSE YOU JUST SAID WISHMASTER IS BETTER THAN HALLOWEEN WHICH TELLS ME YOU DON'T KNOW TO MUCH ABOUT HORROR CAUSE YOU COULD'NT GET WES CRAVEN HIMSELF TO SAY THAT WISHMASTER IS BETTER THAN HALLOWEEN AS A MATTER OF FACT YOU COULD'NT GET ANYBODY IN THEIR RIGHT HORROR LOVING MIND TO SAY THAT BULLSHIT. YOU MIGHT NOT LIKE IT BUT YOU STILL HAVE TO ADMIT IT'S STATUS THAT STATUS BEING THE BEST SLASHER MOVIE MADE AND HIGHLY REGARDED AS MANY AS THE BEST HORROR MOVIE OF ALL-TIME I'M NOT SAYING IT IS I'M JUST SAYING IT'S REGARDED BY MANY TO BE. AND MANY ARE'NT MY COUSIN AND MY BEST FRIEND I'M TALKING ABOUT PEOPLE WITH STEPHEN KING CREDIBILITY. AND YOU ALSO PUT IT ON YOUR LIST. ON A LIST WHERE YOU'RE SAYING MOVIES THAT ARE NOT SUPPOSE TO BE BORING YOU PUT ONE OF THE LONGEST MOST OUTDRAWN FILMS OF ALL-TIME THAT ONCE AGAIN TELLS ME YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT BECAUSE IT AND WISHMASTER HAVE NO BUISNESS BEING MENTIONED IN THE SAME DISCUSSION AS HALLOWEEN YOU CAN MAKE YOUR CLAM WITH NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, EVIL DEAD, FRIDAY THE 13TH AND AS FOR ZOMBIE MOVIES NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD AND MAYBE A FEW OTHERS CAN ACTUALLY MAKE A GOOD CLAM BUT OTHER THAN THAT THIS DISCUSSION IS POINTLESS CAUSE HALLOWEEN IS A FAR MORE ENTERTAINING FILM THAT WISHMASTER AND AS FOR IT YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF.

I DO LOVE TALKING ABOUT HALLOWEEN CAUSE I LOVE THE MOVIE AND I HAVE NO PROBLEM DISCUSSING AND TALKING ABOUT IT WITH SOMEONE SUCH AS YOURSELF OR DAVE BASICALLY WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY IS SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT UNLIKE WHOEVER THIS GIRL THINKS SHE IS COMING ON HERE SAYING MICHAEL MYERS SUCKS.THAT'S HER OPINION I RESPECT HER OPINION...I RESPECT ANYBODY'S OPINION UNTIL YOU SAY SOME SHIT LIKE WISHMASTER AND IT ARE BETTER FILMS THAT JUST MAKES ME MAD AS HELL WHEN SOMEONE DOES'NT RESPECT THE FILM FOR WHAT IT IS AND THAT'S ONE OF THE BEST HORROR FILMS EVER MADE. EVERBODY ON THIS FORUM THAT I'VE ARGUED WITH ABOUT HALLOWEEN BEING THE BEST, OR HOW I HATE HELLRAISER WITH A PASSION, I'M SURE YOU NOTICE THAT THE ARGUEMENT GOES ON AND ON UNTIL THE PERSON CONCEEDS AND ADMITS THAT HALLOWEEN IS A CLASSIC HORROR FILM. AFTER YOU SAY THAT YOU CAN GO ON AND ON ABOUT HOW PINHEAD IS BETTER OR HOW YOU THINK MICHAEL IS BORING BUT UNTIL YOU SAY THAT HALLOWEEN IS A CLASSIC HORROR FILM I'M NOT GOING TO STOP DEFENDING WHAT I THINK IS THE BEST SLASHER GENRE FILM OF ALL-TIME NOT THE BEST HORROR MOVIE OF ALL-TIME BUT DEFINATELY THE BEST SLASHER FILM EVER. DON'T GET ME WRONG I THINK IT'S THE BEST MOVIE ON THE FACE OF THE PLANET EARTH EVER KNOWN TO MANKIND BUT I KNOW THAT IT'S NOT THERE'S TO MANY THINGS OUT THERE THAT HALLOWEEN CAN'T EVEN COMPETE WITH I HATE TO SAY THAT BUT IT'S TRUE.

WOW! you really need to calm down!!!!! Guess what, I'm not gonna give up & if you think that the reason the other people did was because you made them "see the light" then YOU'RE DEAD WRONG! They only agreed with you to make you SHUT UP! I never said said that it wasn't a classic, I just said that all of the other classics were BETTER, out of all of them I CONSIDER Halloween to be THE MOST BORING ONE! and I JUST DON'T LIKE IT! You may not like the movie s that I choose but I DO, and that was MY REPLY I never said that you had to agree with me! and I never said that I wasn't alone in that opinion, my own mother loves Halloween.

halloween is my favorite of all time and michael scares the crap out of me! the music, and the subtle lighting when bringing him out of the shadows. donald pleasance so sells the story here and w/o him the 1st movie would've been kind of a drag since there wasn't much action. IMO there is no problem w/ michael. he's the boogie man. how can you explain why evil exists? it just does. yeah, in reality a normal man couldn't withstand being shot and blown up (but this is a movie after all) and i believe the main reason he's been so resilliant (hope i spelled that correctly) is b/c mustapha akkad can still make money on him. Carpenter killed him off at the end of two and may be that's where it should've ended but i love him so much, i'm glad he came back ;)
i love the fact that he's robotic and has no need to run b/c he knows he'll catch up. the mask is scary and he shows no emotion-except for the occassional head tilt. he's AWESOME! WHEW! sorry.

leslie is a girl! and i know TONS about Michael Myers b/c he's my favorite and b/c of him carpenter has become a favorite of mine. now, i consider 1&2 to be the same movie though obviously carpenter did not direct the second picture, only helped to write/produce it. (no one needs a history lesson, i'm sure) one is beautiful b/c of the subtle way he plants michael at crucial points in the film and an origin is created for michael. two was great b/c it was all tied together into one neat little package plus there was a ton more action than the first part and that hospital was damn scary. i know that if i ran into michael in a dark alley i'd be scared sh*tless and at that point you may as well just lay down b/c you're already dead. he's intense and to quote a line from the terminator, "he absolutely will not stop, until you are dead!" nah, there's no problem w/ mike! ;) 4,5,6 are just dessert for me. see a little more of the guy i love!

And Kawaiidragonfoe, Mike killed his sister because she had sex. Plain and simple.
Yeah, I watched them and he says that in all of them but it seems more like his opinion than fact for the movie.

that's the same thing i was thinking....Jason isn't a demon though...he is already dead and his face shows the results of what time has done to him...Michael has a face, which we have seen briefly in a few scenes. I wish they would stick with one actor though.

I haven't been a fan of horror my entire life, I've only really gotten into it the last 5 or 6 years or so. I saw Friday and Nightmare movies when I was younger (I'm 21 now) but they never really did anything for me, I thought they were more funny than scary. It was Halloween that really got me into Horror movies. I still remember the scene where Jamie Lee Curtis was calling for Tommy Doyle to open the door and watching Micheal just walk after her in the distance...that was the scene that did it for me, I have been hooked on horror ever since then. In time I've come to really appreciate all of the slasher movies, but for a long time I would accept nothing other than Halloween. I know that wasn't really on topic for why Micheal never dies. For that my answer is that he is pure evil. How can pure evil die? And I definatly feel the same way as Leslie, 1&2 were basically one great movie, and thats were i consider the true story to be over. the others are just wonderfully sweet desert.

amen to all the loyal halloween fans!
I've discovered something about horror movies and thought I'd see what you guys thought about it. Horror movies aren't scary. They aren't meant to be. They are more for the entertainment of the horror in the movie, but not meant to install fear in you. That is where Thrillers and Suspense lie. They too have horror in them at times, but they are the ones that are all about scaring you. Horror movies on the other hand like the big three (Freddy, Jason, and Michael) are more about the horror part. Halloween does kind of straddle the fence a bit though with the mannerisms of Michael though, bringing a bit of suspense into it, but it is still more a horror movie than a suspense. That is my take on it, after seeing as many horror movies and thrillers as I have seen. They all seem to go by that formula.

DON'T GET ME WRONG I THINK IT'S THE BEST MOVIE ON THE FACE OF THE PLANET EARTH EVER KNOWN TO MANKIND BUT I KNOW THAT IT'S NOT THERE'S TO MANY THINGS OUT THERE THAT HALLOWEEN CAN'T EVEN COMPETE WITH I HATE TO SAY THAT BUT IT'S TRUE.
dude, halloween IS a classic horror movie, cmon it's from 1978, it's normal that it isn't as scary as some other movies from 1990 or so
but I love it, the mask, the hair, the eyes, I love micheal, but I like the hellraiser movies better, even friday the 13th, don't ask me why, it's just like that

Someone said that Halloween is not "as scary as movies from 1990????? O my god, what movie from 1990 was scary?
I find it really really funny that people are arguing over opinions . Halloween is a classic, by the very definition. So is Citizen Kane, but I don't like it.
I will argue though that horror movies are just that "Horror". Dave you don't think The Thing was scary? How about The Exorcist or The Omen or The Shining? I have to disagree with you there.

I just saw the Hellraiser movies over the course of the last couple of weeks. They were pretty good, but not exactly my cup of tea. One thing I did love...Almost evertime Pinhead says something, its more bad ass and evil sounding than the last thing he said.

Truthfully, I haven't found a scary movie yet. There are some scenes in some movies that make me jump but never a movie that just scares the shit out of me.
However, The Thing is another type of movie that straddles the Sci-fi fence. But not, it wasn't a scary movie to me at all. The Exorcist is the movie that I knew someone would mention, and I'm still not afraid of that movie. There were things in it that were freaky, but for the most part it was just a horror movie. Stuff grossed me out as a kid, but didn't scare me. The Omen was not scary at all to me.

If part 6 made any sense then yes the reason why he can't die is because his spirit is posessed and his body is not in control of him so if his body is hurt then it does not affect him because his soul lives on. But I hate it when people say "he is just pure evil, errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" that is one lame ass explanation:rolleyes:
Am I the only one that noticed that at the end of part 4 when they shot the crap out of him that his clothes didn't rip at all, yet he flintched alot like he was being hit?

Michael is far superior IMO to any of the other baddies and i can't see a flaw though may be i am biased. i watched halloween 4 this past w/e and i loved it. a little similar to the first in pace and gore and that was okay. i LOVE when he's almost at the top of the stairs and they're trapped in the house and foolish brady is trying to fight micheal w/ the gun and he just takes that gun away from him and drops it over the railing..that's what he thinks of them..they're useless against him! talking about him gives me chills! i love him!!!!! watched jason x as well and that movie is fun; i watched the special stuff and they went on about how jason is superior to michael...HAHAHAHA!! WHATEVER! JASON is all right but he's no Mike!

THOSE SANCTIMONIOUS SONS OF BITCHES ACTUALLY SAID THAT ON THE DVD?
It should have been Jason vs. Mike but again, Jason would have to win no matter who he fights. There is a reason for this: Jason X. He can't die before Jason X because if he does, they wouldn't have been able to make Jason X because the main character wouldn't have been available.

with austin on this it's not even funny. no vs movies it really is doing an injustice to really great films. halloween is a classic truly-why can't we make more sequels that are GOOD!? why ruin something that is so awesome that it stands the test of time. that is genius! hollywood is full of whores who's only goal is to make money and yes! it makes the world go 'round but why trash something good for the sake of making a buck?!

The problem I have with the Michael Meyers series is they never explained his motive or reason for killing everyone. At least with Jason, Freddy, and Chucky they did that. I don't really buy the reason they gave in Part 6. I also question the killer's motive in "Saw". What a lame reason. He kills because people don't appreciate what they have in their lives. Boo-hoo-hoo. Give me a real motive, like revenge.

Someone mentioned the Myers head tilt earlier.. I love that. It lets you know he's not a complete murder machine but he apparently has to stop and think for a second too.
Basically Myers, Jason, Freddy, Pinhead are all forms of evil, and there's no real way to kill that. Scripts come up with a way to make you think its finally over and then the next script comes around and he's back again slashing someones face off.
Freddy is my favorite, and the most entertaining. "KUNG FU THIS, BITCH!". C'mon, it doesnt get any better than that

Who cares what his motive is really.. He's here and he's right in your face with a butcher knife. Are you gonna be like "MICHAAEELL WHY ARE YOU ABOUT TO KILL ME?" or are you gonna do something about it?

I love Halloween. I've probably seen it a hundred times. Who cares what Michael's motive is? Why does he even have to have one? Why can't we just say that he kills because he wants to and shut up and enjoy the movie.
There are certain movies that require you to really focus and pay attention otherwise you're lost, but I do not think that Halloween is one of them. If you're sitting there wondering about continuity problems then you really aren't just enjoying the movie for what it is. It's entertainment.
