I'm a big fan of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and I was wondering if I should bother watching the remake, and if so, WHY??:)

Waddya mean? It was a heck of a lot gorier than the original!

I thought the remake was pretty bad overall. The gore was OK in my opinion, and the sherrif was pretty cool, but aside from that, it wasnt great.

the only gory part (pretty much) was when he sawed his leg and put him on the meat hook. or when the girl shot her face. but the rest of the movie was just completely sick and twisted. whats with the friggin farm animals everywhere and like. human juice?? or something in jars.

I thought it really wasn't bad, for a remake. It doesn't really bring anything new to the table, but I think it's worth at least renting. Most importantly to me, it felt like the filmmakers had a real respect for the original and made their film with that in mind. I'm sure it's hard as hell to remake such a classic film, and I don't think it was entirely successful. That said, give it a watch though. You may be surprised.

***Minor Spoilers for Original and Remake

Ya, and thats alot more than the original...in the original, almost all the gore was implied. The corpse in the beginning was a tad gory...We saw the hitchhiker cut open his hand, a bit of blood...the skull-bashing and meat hooks, though violent and disturbing, were by no means gory....Franklin's death, once again, was violent, however the blood and gore were offscreen....then there was a tiny bit of blood on her finger at the dinner table...and a split-secod when Leatherface cuts his leg. So total, thats a tiny bit of blood and some ripped skin, no biggy.

The remake however...we had hitchhiker blowing her brains out...some guy's leg chopped of with with the chainsaw, then the stump cured with salt....meathook scenes showed alot more blood/gore....that bit at the end with the meat cleaver....Im sure theres more Im forgetting, but you get the point. That's ALOT gorier than the original.

I liked this remake alot more than I think most people did. I thought it was pretty good. You can never beet the original though. But I bought it. And I think its worth the 10 bucks on DVD at Wal-Mart. But if you go to WalMart and you dont have Shaun of the Dead, Id get that instead, lol!

I thought Shaun of the Dead was so lame. But that's just me.

I think the original was better on a more psychological level where the remake had the horror of these kids' situation in your face. The original kept the gore at a minimum so that your own imagination could fill in some of the blanks. Sometimes it is better that way. Your mind might come up with something ten times better than the script writer. The remake showed the gore in a higher content because it seems to me alot of people don't want to think about what they are seeing, just let the movie play it out for them.

Thats something else I dont agree with...

The original took place mostly during the day, most notably the final chase. This is one of my favourite things about the film, how it can still be a disturbing film without the aide of darkness's unknown terrors. The remake, on the other hand, took place largly in the dark of night, which took away much of the mystique, in my opinion.

wow, i was going to apply for a local blockbuster soon. free rentals? do you get any discounts when you buy?
and yeah, the remake of TCM was good, it's worth buying. why are people against remakes so badly? i understand, when i see crap like the fog and house of wax hit theaters but the amityville horror remake was great, same with TCM.

10 free rentals a week, 20% discount, can watch flicks the week before they come out

i'm not a fan of a lot of remakes b/c i love the originals so much, it seems pointless. it'd be a lot nicer if more time was spent developing NEW movie concepts that recycling old ones. just an opinion

Ugh, I spent nearly 50$ on this movie. Bought it blindly, for the sheer reason of having heard TCM was good, and hearing a little of the plot from my mother of the originals. I regret it, and I want my money back. 50$ is a lot, and it wasn't even the collector's set. Bastard rip-off stores.

I liked the original better myself. The remake is okay, but what was the deal with Leatherface being all deformed and whatnot? Although I did think the "Amittyville" remake was good, but the original seemed to have a darker, gloomier atmosphere to it.
