Ever have someone tell you "oh, it's not so bad in the grand scheme of things"? Did it ever put things into perspective, and help you get over your problem? If so, you suck.
Personally, I don't care about the grand scheme of things, I don't care about the big picture, or any of that other crap that's supposed to make my problem seem insignificant in lieu of helping. I don't wanna sound self-centered or anything...actually, fuck you, I do wanna sound self-centered.
I don't care about all the starving people in Africa, I don't care about the poor people here, I don't care about some chick in a trailer getting slapped around by her unemployed fat husband, I don't care about you or YOUR problems. I care about me. So how is the fact that a bunch of people I'll never meet and don't care about have it worse than I do supposed to make ME feel better?
Not to say people who don't have real problems (like anorexia) shouldn't suck it up and get over it. But if some asshole cuts me off on 367 with the narrow-ass lanes thanks to all the construction that won't be done for at least 4 years, and I'm pissed about it, saying "oh, well in the long run does it REALLY matter?" or "are you going to care about it 3 days from now?" No, I probably won't care in 3 days, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm pissed off NOW!
I'm not saying that me having fat ear lobes or my girlfriend breaking up with me or the asshole on 367 are big problems. In this case, they aren't even REAL problems, they're hypothetical, but fuck you, you know what I mean. No, they're not that big in the grand scheme of things, no, I won't care about them 2 hours, 3 days, or 5 months from now. And if someone's saying that these things are, *sob* the end of the world ("Oh, no, my girlfriend dumped me! *SUICIDED!!!*"), then telling them how little it really matters is justified. But if I'm reacting in a reasonable fashion to shit I'm dealing with, then don't come to me with that shit about the grand scheme of things or saying how there are kids in Etheopia who have it way worse than I do, or how there are poor people in whatever-the-fuck city who have to live on the street. Fuck them, and fuck you, too.

1. People's Rights - I really could careless about the class struggle or your right to vote. The fact that XYZ race has or isn't free or that whatever you endured isn't political correct. I could care less.
2. Money- I'am sorry that you don't have enough or that I 'll never make enough. That you've had to struggle against whatever odds both ways to get it. That he or she makes more than me. That your ex husband doesn't pay you enough or that these bills are due. Frankly I'am sick of other people's problems with money.
3. The latest video games or techno toys. I don't have a cell phone or want one. As far as I'am concerned you all can take them & stick them up your wahzoo. I hate walking by someone on one that can't make a decision for themselves in a grocery store. Who gives a shit that you can't decide what kind of peas there are.
At my age I could care less about an x-box or play station 9. I don't play them & I don't care about them.
4. The News- Give me the weather & shut up about whomever has gone missing or whatever celebrity has done something stupid. My life is fine without knowing that Hollywood has imploded. Seriously I don't care because all of the real movie stars died years ago.

but, in the grand scheme of things we are all living in a world of unearned privileges where a huge number of people are living without the most basic things like clean water, food, shelter, etc. as for me, i've decided to not give gifts for christmas and instead give donations in people's names to hiefer international (they provide livestock to impoverished people) - this will do two things: 1) piss of my spoiled brat nieces and nephews; and 2) make someone in the world suffer just a little less.

i can't change the world in one easy step, but if i can reduce suffering somewhere even just a little bit then i'm ready to do it.

But you're NOT GETTING THEM ANYTHING! You're giving someone ELSE something, and saying that THEY did it! How can they be "glad they got something" when THEY DIDN'T? It does something for someone else, but the whole point of a GIFT is that it's for the person that it's for. Just be honest and tell them you got them junk mail, because that's what they're going to be getting all because you wanted to give some starving kid over in Wherever-The-Fuck money in your friend's name. Yes, wonderful, you're doing a good thing and don't let anybody say any different, but at least be fucking honest about what exactly it is that you're doing.
