One paragragh or less?
It can't be done:)
What I like?
More than anything in this world- when I get to have quality time with my kids.
What major event shaped me?
All the abuse I endured as a child and young adult,I came out on the better end of that, which led me to trust and love and care again. Not everyone is a demon spawn...most of them, but not all!
Ended up at HDC because:
I always loved Horror movies and I was looking at some review of a movie, and scanned the forum here and liked what was posted,so I joined.

My story
My name is Lloyd I'm 29 years old, married and have 2 sons, one three years old and the other 5 months. I have 2 brothers and a sister all younger than Me. I play the bass guitar and sing. I've played in a few bands but haven't done so lately due to lack of time.
I enjoy lots of different types of music, some of my favorite bands are Weezer, The Cure, Smashing Pumpkins and of course Nirvana.
I Love horror films especially movies about Zombies, my favorite being "Dawn of the Dead 78" Some friends and I are actually working on our own Horror film, just for something to do.
I can't remember how I found Horror.com, I think my wife might have found it for Me.

My name is Colin, I am just under two weeks shy of being 18.
My life, to this point, has been shaped by a myriad of different situations. I've had my fair share of medical problems (born with inverted feet, though it was fixed by the time I was one, heart defect, which is why I have a pacemaker, numerous surgery's as a result of getting injured doing something I probably shouldn't have been doing etc)
I value my friends, the past 3 years of my life, and my ability to express myself on paper, and through photographs.

*WARNING....HUGE PARAGRAPH AHEAD* ;)
I'm Robin....I'm 24, and I live outside of Boston, MA. I recently graduated college with a Bachelor's in Psychology. I hope to start my career counseling children/adolescents, and eventually go on to get my masters degree. I love football, internet-shopping, reading, writing, friends, horror movies, music...and...WATER (seriously, I'm obsessed with it) ;) My parents got divorced about 10 years ago, but I'm happy that they did. I'm a very easy going person, and I can get along with anyone...but...I can honestly say that I hate my father. However, my mom is the greatest woman I know, so I feel very blessed...and I don't miss not having a father, b/c...you can't miss what you never really had in the first place. I'm actually thankful that I had to go through some hard times when I was younger...it only made me a stronger person, and taught me that I'm capable of getting through anything. I guess that's why I decided to get into the profession I chose...I want to help others get through their tough times...and realize that there's always hope. I moved away from home when I was 18, and it was the best thing I could ever have done. I learned so much about myself, and the world in general. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I met great people, and most importantly...the love of my life. I'm back home now, and for the first time in my life, I feel like everything is falling into place...and that I'm at peace with myself. Oh yeah....I ended up at HDC b/c I was trying to figure out the name of a horror movie I saw in the 80's...and during a google search, I stumbled upon this place :) Somebody told me to stick around....so I did.

I'm yuppie spawn. Growing up, got picked on by kids and abused by my dad (verbally mostly and some physically). When I was young and stupid, I hung out with Christians. Then, at 16 I was in a Pagan bookstore and found my first doorway into Wicca.
Got raped. Went to college. Got raped again. Then spend the rest of those years in a fog of refer smoke and LSD.
Dated a duece for 2 1/2 years. He decided the shriveled cunt of my then best friend was better than mine. Oh, somewhere in there had a misscairage.
Now, live with parents. Dad still abusive. There's no way out.
Oh almost graduated uni with a Cigma Cum Laud,...but got a regular bachelors in the end.

I love to write, but I have a huge procrastination problem, so I only have poetry published. I love all types of movies, especially horror & comedy. In my free time ( when my kid's asleep) I get online & mostly play games & post at the pantera board ( & now this one). Or I type some random word & put .com after it. That's how I stumbled upon this place last night. Typed in Horror & put.com. Hmm I guess I'm done.

What the hell, I'll do this too...
My name is Heather, I'm 22 years old....Hi, nice to meet you all:) I like photography, movies, and music...pretty much everything I do has something to do with one of those 3 things. Not too many major events in my life yet, at least nothing worth sharing here. I've shaped my life around and have learned so much from my family, and both the good and bad people I've come across in my life... and I think I've grown a rather genuine personality from watching the great things, and also the mistakes the people around me have made. I found HDC about 2 years ago because I was doing a web search for a Misfits show I wanted to go to, and this is one of the sites the search brought me too. I did a lot of article reading here after that about movies because I don't watch TV really, so the web tells me all about the flicks I wanna see...I joined the forum in the begining of 2004 under a name I can't remember, I only posted about 10 times (in 2 days I think) with that one, then decided to re-register in October 2004 and stick around, got banned with that one, then came back for another go...and well, I think I'm still around.

I spend most of my time either cleaning this house or shopping for her. When I was 14 my dad killed himself. We were very close. I had to move away from everyone I knew. A few months later I met a guy who I had a 2 year relationship with. I guess he stopped caring about me and went off and cheated on me. Had a few relationships after that and now i've decided to just stop searching. I found HDC while searching for some info on a movie. I figured I didn't have anything better to do so I joined.

Im Andrew, loved horror my whole life [even though Im not even old enough to watch R rated movies legally:p]. First horror movie I ever saw was the Lugosi version of Dracula, and it's been one of my favourites ever since. First movie altogether was either Sword in the Stone or 101 Dalmatians, according to my parents. Thusfar, I havnt had any real troubles in my live; my parents are together, we live comfortably, ect. Im a fervent actor and hope to be involved in film when Im older. After high school, I plan to attend a theatre arts school and move to Toronto. Thats about it, life is good:D

I'm Garrett (hate the name), I'm 23, engaged without the jewelry and I was raised by a single baptist ex-marine and a bipolar grandfather in a very haunted house a couple towns away from Salem, MA. I was pretty much raised on horror films, having seen Creepshow on my mother's lap in the theater when I was about three months old. I just left college due to a clash in personal politics and a lack of resources in my area of interest, which is how afterlife beliefs and horror have shaped our moral and cultural consciousness. I'm right now with my stepfamily and my girl in Central PA, working on my novel and trying to market my writing so we can start a better life. I came to HDC to find how horror effects people and what horror fans think about death and morality. I ended staying because I like the place.

I like your name.
Did you ever really find an answer to your question about how horror effects people?
Did you ever notice how most horror lovers(not all!)
have had tramatic things happen to them?
I think it's because we know the bad guy on screen and we know they will eventually get what they deserve...it's pure justice-something that never seems to occur in RL.
Doc Faustus
11-29-2005, 06:03 PM
Not quite yet. I'm still kind of thinking over what I want to ask and seeing if anyone would be comfortable with the interview. And, to answer your question, poetic justice has always really been a big part of horror since horror stories spring from pretty similar ideological roots as medieval morality plays if you trace it back far enough in mythology.

That makes a lot of sense, now that you mention it...I guess I never gave it too much thought...but yeah...if you read about people's stories on here...seems like everyone had their fair share of trauma. Good observation Nova. You get an A++++ and a sticker.:D

It really does make sense. I do believe that is partly why I am a horror fan; horror films are therapeutic in their own way. A safe way of exorcising your demons, so to speak.
Anyway, my name is Jennifer, I am 27 years old. I have dreams of someday being a published writer, but I can't swear that I have any genuine talent. I did have one traumatic event in my past that certainly helped shape who I am today; sexual abuse at the hands of a neighbor when I was very young. I have been a horror fan since I was child. I am more than a little morbid....but I am also genuinely "nice" person. I happened upon HDC while searching for information for a short story I was writing at the time. And I immediately joined up.

I too have noticed that some people here had traumatic things happen. I however haven't. I just love horror. I like finding 1 that makes me crinkle my nose in disgust or say something like " oh gross", or jump. Which it takes a lot for me to do those things. ( the jumping thing is very rare) Most horror movies, I laugh or say " hell yea" ( like the way someone was killed)

I think there's also something really cathartic when you're a traumatized person about writing horror or showing people horror movies, because it expresses things people wouldn't understand unless they were there. I tried to explain to my fiancee what it was like growing up around ghosts, and it was extremely difficult. There's not much that gets at the feeling of being a three year old seeing someone hang on the appletree outside your window, but when I showed her Poltergeist, she understood what it was like being around ghosts and death as you grow up. Even if you tried, you couldn't slap an adult hard enough to show them how it feels to be slapped as a child. In a theater or with friends or beside a lover in bed watching the films, you give them an intimacy and understanding that it's otherwise difficult to explain. Plus, as Nova said, it's a place where you get to see justice being served, which is not a luxury abused and traumatized children really get. Every monster we see on screen is the devil we can't quite be certain is waiting for the people that sinned against us.

In March of next year I'm hoping to go to England for the first time in my life, which would be fulfilling a lifelong dream for me. As you can see from my avatar, I lost my cat Taylor recently (August). He was my furry child and I loved him more than anything and I still miss him like crazy. I've been a horror movie fan since I was a small child. I remember going to Saturday matinees to see horror movies. I think I was looking for a website that listed all horror movies ever made and that's how I ended up here. I've always enjoyed the conversations I've had with people here and that's why I stay.

Hey TM,do me a favor and go to 'Poetry is an Art Form,Right?'
Read the last poem I wrote and tell me what you think..be honest.
I already know it's mildly crappy since no one made ANY comments.
But I think you might relate to the subject.
I really like this thread SKOOFX,I love everything everybody has written about themself.
It seems like we all are really being a 'community'.

I think it's pretty much the status quo nowadays. Unfortunately, instead of progressing, I think we're just getting more and more violent. Just my personal opinion.

I grew up in Chicago in the 50's. My parents drank a lot and dumped my two older brothers and I off at the corner movie theater to babysit us. Opened at 10am, closed at 1 am. There, starting at age 5, I sat through those 50's horror movies over and over and over, with my brothers making me sit by myself two or three rows ahead of them, shooting me with rubber bands and paper clips (and endured my fair share of those pervs sitting one seat away from the aisle with a paper bag - learned that early).
But it was those movies, which seem so harmless now. I fainted at the end of Village of the Damned when the children's eyeballs floated up to the sky. I was frozen at the back wall of the theater at the time. I cried with fear at the original House on Haunted Hill with the skeleton, witcy woman in the basement, and acid pit. Spent many a night with covers over my head because of Christopher Lee's red vampire eyes. Pit and the Pendulum with Barbara Steele's eyes as she was left in the Iron Maiden. Anyone ever see Mondo Cane (something like that). Horrified me. Kept cutting off a guys limbs. I've got 40 or 50 more paragraphs, but I think I've given a good hint why I came to this forum.

I was CNA while I studied in the LPN Program.
I also floated as a Phelbotimist.
Took 2 weeks of the EMT training(I quit after my teacher asked me if I would be able to handle seeing someone's face hanging off at a scene...UH-NO)
I did a few other things in the med world as well.

however ..it never once crossed my mind
to ever hurt myself...becos..it wasn't my fault.
I almost died walking the 10 miles to my brothers farm..the amount of blood loss..
ripped..to shreds..however the hell i made it to him.
My brother put it down to sheer determination not to be beaten down ..and he was right..
When my baby was born..it made me even more determined..and only being a child myself..
Also..not once did i feel hatred..only pity
cos at the end of it all ..father dearest lost all of his children and our total respect.
When he got out of prison and tried to contact us...we heard this big man sobbing like a child..
my brother wished him well and hung up..that was our last contact till we heard that he had passed away..
The day they were to bury him..my brothers sent me to Aus ..not for a holiday but to get me out of thier fucking hair cos i kept chasing girly ppl away.
Yes...my big brother is my god and keeper and although he has just turned 50 ..(nov 1st)..he still tells me off and i still go over to his house n just help myself to his wallet..his food..his car..
and all he does is shake his head when i upset his wifey ..the bitch.

Hell of a story. People don't even know how far human endurance and will goes. Surviving that kind of darkness, of physical and psychivc violence is really remarkable. And to come out of it as anything but the most reprehensible of people or an utter vegetable is just a miracle. It blows my mind sometimes how weak the excuses for becoming a vicious and antisocial person are in some people, and yet how far people can go and maintain basic human decency. I'd have to say you're the bravest person I've come into any modicum of contact with, stubborn.

I won't ever go into massive detail about what I went thru, because it doesn't deserve my time or energy.
But Stubborn,we are survivors, most people that went thru stuff like us-become abusers themselves,Multiple Personalities,Crack Whores,Drug addicts...basically the scum of the earth type people.
But I see alot of 'love of life' in you Stubborn.
I consider myself lucky to still be intact somewhat mentally and a person who tries, though my soul is so tired,to keep a pair of rose colored glasses handy.
Because the way I see it-how much worse could it EVER get,and even if it did...we made it through before.
So there's never a question of our strength.
I wouldn't change an ounce of pain or trama, because every experience made me.
The small things matter now,and are never overlooked and always..precious.
And I too:movin on now:)

Beautifully stated Nova. I agree completely.
It's actually very empowering to have survived terrible circumstances... that doesn't mean I think it's great that they happened ;) However, when you overcome them, you realize how strong you are...what you're capable of handling...
All of my experiences, especially the bad, have taught me important lessons...and I've learned so much more than I ever could have, had I not gone through them. I've gotten to the point where I'm actually grateful that I did.

Novakru and Stubbornforgey,
After reading stories of your hardships it would really be hard for me to say that I have had a difficult past.
I pray that The Dagda and Morrigu (Haunted;) ) give those that tresspassed against you and caused you so much pain get the pain they have inflicted returned to them 3 fold and thensome.
It angers and saddens me at times to see what a shitty world has been presented to us.
I do believe though that the Gods are testing us for what is to come, so that we are stronger, better people to deal with it.
Blessings to you.

Thank you MTC and MM.
I didn't think I would revisit this issue again,but I feel I must.
I don't wish any harm on my abusers.
I haven't gotten to the point where I can forgive them,
but one day I will and that is the day I will truly be free of them and their poison will be completely free from my mind and will no longer affect Any of my actions.
I have finally forgiven myself because a therapist finally got it thru to me that I didn't cause this,I didn't bring it-how could I?
The thing is,I have seen remarkable examples of people forgiving murderers that killed their children.
I personally do not think I could ever do that, but I undestand WHY now.
What happens when someone takes something precious from you and you hate them and you become bitter and that hate spreads like a virus and everyone you come into contact experiences it and in turn passes it on?
How is that helpful to you?
To anyone?
A vicious cycle that never ends.
And only forgiveness can end it.
Don't get me wrong though-
People should pay under the law when they have abused children, killed or raped children, killed or raped anyone actually.
I don't think they die though.
Punishment should be a locked room,no TV,no books,no contact with others, not even a window to see the weather.
Locked in a room with only their thoughts is the only way a person who cares so little for life to truly understand the pain they caused.
Because eventually in their mind a Hell of their own creation will start.
That to me would be justice served.
This one is a very thin issue with me though.
Because I know if something happened to my child-I'd want blood and I'd want to be the person that caused that blood.

I'm 16, I'll be 17 in May. I don't have much of a life off of the internet. I'm a goth (Don't ask). I enjoy watching horror movies. I started watching them about 5 months ago and got hooked. The first one I saw was "The Grudge" ??? I'd like to spend some time with my friends..... I don't have any though..... I also enjoy singing and playing a little on my guitar and keyboards. My favorite band is Cold. And talking on the phone is NOT my strong point. lol.
As for how I ended up on HDC, I read Fango and it had an add in the back for this place. I probably would not be here any longer if I had not just taken the few insults I had gotten when I first arrived.

.
This is what makes people like you better than me.
My father abandoned me when I was a child. He died soon after in a serious car accident. He also took a young girls life in the process. Until my mid twenties, with the help of the Gods, I was very bitter and angry about the way my life had turned out.
I could only think that if my father had not left, to find himself:rolleyes:, the chain of events would have been much different than what it was.
I can only say this, I have come to terms with the misfortunes that I have had and am for the most part no longer filled with angst.
I do have a great deal of apathy towards my father and his family as well as my mother, we donot have a good relationship as hers is mostly connected to Marshall Fields and Niemen Marcus.
What I have done is put all that aside and expressed myself in other ways but I will never forget what has happened to me and I am totally unable to forgive, hopefully the Gods will because I cannot.
Words cannot be put here the things that I would like to do to people that abuse women and especially children. All I can say is that it would be a machine that would never be able to be turned off.

I feel the same way. I'm unable to forgive the person who caused me most of my pain...the main reason for that is b/c he won't admit what he did. He takes no responsibility for his actions, and doesn't believe he did anything wrong. It's hard to forgive somebody who won't allow you the closure that you seek.
I can't say that I'm angry anymore, I guess that I just choose to pretend like this person doesn't exist ;) Maybe that's not the healthiest thing to do, in many people's eyes...but it works for me, and allows me to go on with my life.

Wow, I wasn't prepared for this.
I joined HDC after searching on google, just to find somewhere to connect with like minded people and chat and stuff about one of my fave hobbies - horror films. Simple.
But when I read some of the replies to this thread my blood ran cold and I felt I had to post something. I don't really want to go into my life story right now. I've recently spent a few weeks at a clinic trying to sort my head out after everything came to a head and finally got the better of me. I didn't do me any good though and I'm still struggling to cope. I wish I was as strong as some of you folks but the fact is I aint - and I haven't had things as bad as some of you. No way. You are truly amazing and inspirational people.
It is good to read your posts though and see that there is hope and people can come through these things. It just sickens me to the core everytime I hear about these things. Sometimes life really sticks it in and breaks it off.
Anyway, I'm 32 and live in Birmingham, England (the ancestral home of Ozzy). It's a dump. I play the geetar a bit and listen to classic rock/metal etc. I love ancient history and Egyptology. I'm trying to learn hieroglyphics - why, I'm not sure!
I've always loved horror films ever since me and my best mate illegally hired out the incredible melting man. Ahh, my misspent youth. I prefer the classics though - hammer especially. And my fave actor - Vincent Price of course (genius!)
