I don't really know the idea behind this thread pink.
I wasn't paying enough attention when I replied.

And I meant to write "refurbished":D

It was pretty stupid. It'll still get more responses than a normal thread from me.

Apparently this thread is some sort of vortex to the confusion demention. Coming out of the confusion one enters the annoyed demension....you know 'cause you're annoyed by the dude that actually opened the portal.

If you drink strawberry flavored milk, the confusion will go away pretty fast, about 1 min. A little tip for you guys stuck in the thread vortex.

I'd spend $400-1500 on a pair of cowboy boots before I would an xbox anything

In Gun, you can wear virtual cowboy boots.

How's that for compromise?

desperate attempt to avoid the mundane aspects of life through virtual excitement (not really my thing)

You mean, like a film (say, a horror film?) you can control?

Is this more desperate than sitting virtually motionless in front of images you are not able to interact with for an hour-and-a-half?

yes - (we seem to be disagreeing a lot today) - and the issue of control is exactly the point. the illusion of 'control' within the video game is why it seems a desperate form of escapism. . . film, by virtue of not creating the illusion of control, is a more pure aesthetic experience (words i never though i'd post on HDC).

Lord! Don't worry about that, I give the illusion of disagreeing with everyone everyday. :p

Is controlled escapisim more desperate than aesthetic escapism, or more creative? Perhaps desperation and creation go hand-in-hand?

At least gamers make their own way through and leave their own mark on the entertainment, whereas filmmakers could just be holding us hostage in our armchairs while they flaunt their own creations...

XBOX owned my soul for a good couple of years, but this new one apparently is frying out... like, every single one. So I aint buying one til it comes down from the $400 price tag (Trippin_the_rif, I dunno where you came up with $1500) and Microsoft sends out a working model.
