Rank the TCM movies. You can include the remake if you want...

1) TCM (original)
2) Leatherface: TCM 3
3) TCM (remake)
4) TCM 2
5) TCM 4: The Next Generation

If this is something people enjoy, I can start one up for a few other of the popular franchises as well, but for not let's just stick with TCM and see how it goes...

I liked it as a kid but watched it recently and its pretty average. Its basically a remake of the first film with elements of the 2nd characterwise thrown in. It has Ken Foree which makes it kinda cool. But despite its flaws its still worth a watch and its better than that Next Generation garbage......

My bad, that post really wasn't clear at all. I was saying you didn't have to tell me Leatherface was better than Next Generation. And I was saying Leatherface is hard to find.

Ahhhh I gotcha now. Its pretty much impossible to find on DVD over here it's creepin' about on ZONE 1 import I'd say but its not a film I really wanna pay $50 for. I'll stick to my VHS copy.

Not any totally reliable source or anything, but I heared it both from Alkytrio on here, and a member whose name I forget on the IMDb forums. No offence to Alky, but those arent 100% prefect sources...but I wasnt talking any chances. Id assume another edition will be out soon, but I knew this was looked an sounded good, and that the features very pretty interesting...so I grabbed it.

Elvis is probably right, even if they do go out of print in like 10 years or so they'll put out some kind of anniversary special or horror classic package.

Yeah, that Alky is unpredictable, irresponsible, and a complete slave to his appetites...

I hope you guys have held onto your VHS copies of TCM. Its definatley a film that looks better on high quality VHS than it does on DVD.

DVDs contain a lot of shit in extras that kill the intended reaction to the film. TCM, Maniac, Mother's Day and The Prowler are films that the old as fuck versions are the one to have. My reason is that those films spoke for themselves in a unique way and were rawer than anything at the time. The cleaned up tones of DVD versions wash out alot of the visual soul of these films and all the extras try to explain the unexplainable.

DVDs almost become a status symbol. Action films make three times the revenue because of macho packaging and extras. "My tuff guy movie has three disks while yours has only two" drives hyponotised "movie lovers" unto mental debt trying to compete to have the REAL fan's editon.

VHS just reminds me of simpler times when movies were still magic. The art world in all facits has become stagnent because of of over analising.

....something I need to say better but i'm drunk as fuck thinking spewin out thoughts that read by me in the morning will be dyslexic smotherings of a good idea.
        :( :o

So there's a chance TCM will go out of print? I guess I'd better pick up a copy then. Even if it is just a rumor, better safe than sorry. Okay, here's my ranking:

Original
TCM2
Remake
Leatherface
Next Generation

It really seems like Next Generation is one of the most hated movies out there.

Good to see! Its a film that gets WAY to much shit and is really underated. Dennis Hopper and Bill Mosley are great in that flick.

The Next Generation is underrated, and clearly the wheels of the bandwagon are rolling again here.

McConaughey and Zellwegger are just fine in the lead roles, and though the film is less violent and terrifying than the first (proving the rawness and cheap production values of the original helped to emphasise the horror) this virtual remake (in the Evil Dead/Evil Dead 2 sense) is slick and nasty enough for a second evaluation.

My conclusions for this unneccessary derision: general disdain for the movie's now A-list stars, comparison to the unsurpassable original, negative word-of-mouth.

Viewed as a standalone horror film, this is good stuff - and much less irritating than the postmodern self-referential shit like Scream that it preceded.

Now then -Halloween 3...

;)

The Next Generation isn't a remake of TCM. There are completely different characters and plot (Completely unlike Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 which is essentially the same exact story retold in the same way with the only differences being a slightly bigger budget and a shift towards cheesy humor.) Zelwegger's acting was shit in it. Matthew McConaughey acted fine, but his character was ridiculously stupid. My gripes with this film extend waaaaay beyond the lack of gore. The whole metal leg thing was stupid, but where this movie really took the plunge was when that retard showed up in the limo out of nowhere and claimed responsibility for all evil in the world. What the fuck? That was just flat out stupid. In my opinion, this piece of crap is right down there near the bottom of the barrel with House of the Dead, Frogs and Infested.

I would rank them in the order they were made.

and I love Halloween 3. I would take Halloween 3 over any of the last 3 Halloween movies any day. part of that could be nostalgia talking.

But the film exists in essence as a remake of the original, call it a re-telling by the original writer if you like - the key elements are the same even if the specifics are not.

There are several nods to the original in the movie, but they are not delivered in the smart-arse Craven-style that became so popular afterwards - this has become significant over the years.

I think the decent performances and impressive style of this piece overrides any negative marks about "stupidity" (the odd limo-guy included!) - wasn't Hooper's own sequel filled with some rather far-out, daft characters and scenes?

Yeah it was. And I wasn't a real huge fan of that one either.

I just rewatched TCM:TNG again last night. Zelwegger did a better job than I remembered and the plot was a bit cooler too (A small bit. I still graded it a D.), but the majority of the acting still sucked as did the limo guy and the lack of any cool kill scenes. All in all, just not an impressive movie... And who the fuck was flying that plane at the end came out of nowhere to clip Vilmer? That was something I just realized was never explained.

I'm looking forward to the TCM prequel which is currently shooting in Austin. I've been reading all the cast interviews and it's sounding mighty good and horrificly bloody and gory, hope it's R-rated. Bring it on !

I certainly wouldn't expect it to be anything less than R rated. I'm hoping they put it out Unrated, but I know they won't... Not until DVD at least.

'TCM' (74). Period. Mosely was great in 2, but did it really have to have the 'TCM' monicker on it ? Dennis Hopper as a Bible quoting weirdo out to avenge anybody would've been watchable in my book.
As for the remake, the only things I liked were the new look Leatherface, the "hole through the head" camera shot (ala 'The Quick and The Dead') and that Jessica Biel girl wiggling into and out of every single shot afterwards :D How conveniently does a piglet just "happen" to be in a locker next to hers in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere when Leatherface Jr. is opening them ?
