Brundle fly says it's as good as sucking up a vomit brew, off of a mank steak.

Are we talking about the "original", or the completely unrelated "remake"? Based on the gore factor, I'll guess you could only mean the 80's remake.
The original resembles an oldskool twilight zone/outer limits kinda storyline, pretty solid film.
The 80's sci-fi starring ?Gina Davis? and Jeff Goldblum was pretty cool...yeah, some gross shit happens, not just gore, but "eurgh" kinda stuff...moderately scary, nice special effects.
Never saw the follow-up "son of the fly"? or was it just "fly 2"?
Anyone got a take on that?

The Fly is an awesome horror film, rivalling Return of the Living Dead 3 in the twisted romance stakes.
The Fly 2 is a little underrated - gone are most of the original cast, but there are some pleasing gruesome bits (and a particularly sad episode with a dog) by FX creator Chris Walas to make up for the lack of distinct quality Cronenberg appled to the original.

The Fly (80s) is an excellent film, the Fly (50s) i thought was disappointing especially as i have a great affection for the 50s B movie creature features. The Fly 2 is good (agree about the dog PR3SSUr3) but lacks the quality of the first.

The Fly is a great film. Well, the Cronenberg version is. The original is good, but this is probably the only case I can think of in which the remake blows the original out of the water.

Not only is the movie good but the new collector versions are very nice, cool slipcases.

Great, great movie. Not as gory as they lead you to believe, but still fairly gruesome in parts. Really strage story, but it's by far one of my favourites. See it!
Fly 2 was OK...it had it's moments [the Dog:(], but was really boring/drawn out. Worth seeing once or twice though.

"You're getting worse -"
"I'm getting... better!"
Great line from The Fly 2.
Also: good head-squashing by an elevator, and that Bartok guy is made into a right state at the end (oops, spoiler-ish!).
But these effects don't top the acid-vomit scenes at the end of the original - what about when Brundle pukes over the guy's ankle, and his leg just dissolves away beneath his sock? Awesome gore scene.
