View Full Version : A wretched night of DVDs

I feel compelled to report a truly wretched night of DVD choices.

Last evening, suffering from a bit of a cold, I decided to rent three DVDs and spend an evening with cough syrup, beer, and a frozen dinner (ok, not exactly a healthy combination - but I'm sick anyway).....

SO, I began the evening with Star Wars III, which I never got around to seeing, and found it BORING AS HELL! God what an awful flick. I had just avoided in while it was in the theater but good lord almighty what a poorly acted, incoherent, and dreadful film.

SO, after waking myself up, I put in a horror flick I kept hearing about - Satan's Little Helper. God only knows why I picked this one up - I think I'd read like three different stories about it on-line and in Fangoria and just figured I might as well see it. WELL, it sucked ass. A fairly cool premise ruined by bad acting and bad direction (couldnt' figure out if it was supposed to be funny or scary and didn't pull off the combination of the two). The little kid freaked me out (in part because I'd just seen him in Todd Solondz's Palindromes) and the woman from The Fisher King (one of my all time favorites) gave one of the worst performances ever put on scene.

My final choice of the evening was my attempt at a quality flick, but was actually a case of mistaken identity. I picked up what I thought was the Robert Altman/Neve Campbell film about a ballet company but, and hey I was sick, it wasn't anything to do with ballet (or nearly as well directed as an Altman flick). This film begins with Neve Campbell naked and has a series of sex scenes - BUT is so badly made and ridiculous that it was, naked Neve and all, BORING.

My evening ended with two more hits of cough syrup and a slow fade into la-la land.

you lot are pathetic -

sadly, STE, no - it was not the Company, which is the film I thought I was renting (hey, I have a cold!)

The film was called "When Will I Be Loved" - and, trust me, Naked Neve and all - its not worth it - run, for the love of god, run

Oh, misread the post. I thought When Will I Be Loved was pretty good. Maybe it was the combination of beer and cough syrup and cold

you're probably right - I was also expecting an altman film about ballet so was horribly confused by utter lack of - a) huge cast and b) tutus.

So, you like ballet?

it has its place in the universe - and if i could just stand on my toes. . .who knows what beautiful movements i might've made. . .

Seriously though, i'm no big ballet fan. I just vaguely recalled seeing Campbell and Altman on the Charlie Rose show and thought they were pretty smart about the film they'd made and put in on my mental list of films to see ----where it still lingers, sadly.

That said, if you'd like to take me dancing I can do the waltz, and the cha-cha!! (but my foxtrot leaves a bit to be desired!)

:D

oddly enough - i am sick - nose full of snot, fever, the works . . . so I hope that explains my irrational dvd-choosing behavior.
