How would I move files from one computer that doesn't have a cd burner on to another computer? I mean without the internet, having both computers in the same place. I thought it would be easy, but I gave up trying myself.

either buy or borrow a friends portable usb memory card. If not you'll need to network the two Pcs together, via the network card in each pc with a network cable.

I tried that and then tried to set-up the network, but it didn't work. The files are a little big for the usb thing I think, so I really need to know exactly how you do it with a network cable.

This computer

Local Area Connection
network cable unplugged
Realtek RTL8139/810x family fast

Local Area Connection 3
connected
Scientific Atlanta Webstar 2000 se

For the other one, I think it's:

Local area Connection
network cable unplugged
D-Link (I don't remember the whole name, but it's the network card/cable)

Cable Modem
connected
(can't remember)

I'll have to come back with the info on the other computer.

I'm assuming both Pcs are using pc-i network cards. You will need to check the properties for both cards to see if xp reports them as both working ok.

in the properties for each card, there will be several tabs. click the 'general' tab and make sure the boxes are ticked.

yes thats all well and good, but it's the bodge it way. Why not run through a few simple settings, and get the network working properly.
