Considering the macarbe nature and masarquistic infliction of pain does this make it the most sadistic horror film.

"Hellraiser" is very sadistic, indeed.
It's also a wonderful dark movie with a fantastic atmosphere... but I think that there are some movies that are more sadistic. The classic "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" is one of these I think...

You could make a case for "Hellraiser". Pinhead certainly is sadistic.

the 1st hellraiser was pretty gory and made me sick
the 2nd was better IMO b/c i could stand to watch it
the 3rd was my fav! and bloodline was great story telling
they're bad but no worst than the rest...pinhead has quite a
bit of heart actually...he could be disturbing but when he's good
he's awesome

let me start by saying hellraiser is cool (i know i might get bashed for what i am bout to say)
i liked hellraiser but i thought that there are much better horror movies out there....i just got through watching Candyman last night with Arioch and we both agreed that it is better than hellraiser.........(sorry arioch for bringing you into this..it might be a slaughter)
anyway hellraiser is definetely sadistic but the way they go about showing it is just kinda .....way to out there for me......some scenes just look fake....i will leave it at that
oh yeah when responding .........be gentle lmao:p

Ahh well, bring out the guns Mirth. I totally agree, like we were disscussing earlier today. Hellraiser just seems overdone to me. Like the whole point of the movie is to be extreme and gory. It doesnt scare me AT ALL, never has. The effects look kinda dated by todays standards and not good dated like Brain Dead or Evil dead where its comedic, hellraiser is supposed to be taken seriously so when it looks fake the movie suffers.
Its a classic i guess, and everyone on the board thinks pinhead is gods gift to Horror icons but he just doesnt do it for me. Niether do his other cenobites. Maybe im just takin it too seriously and its kinda supposed to be corny but i dont know. The ONLY part i like about hellraiser is UNCLE FRANK which is the best character. I think they should have made the series about him, i think i couldve gotten into that a little more.
Alright, me and mirth have made our cases, so let the flamming begin. I know we are definitely in the minority in not adoring the hellraiser series so lets get it on.
I'd say the answer to this question would be yes, if it was confined to the popular compeditors. Freddy, Jason, Michael Myers, Chucky, Candyman, Last Sumer, Scream, Ring, Sixth Sense....those are all the kind of movies that people who aren't big horror fans go looking for. Hellraiser is something that some people who come in to the video store I work in won't even touch. It is too much for them. It all depends on the person watching it because for some of us, we've seen movies that are far worse, yet for others My Little Pony would be terrifying.

I'm a prodigy of the 80's so I see nothing fake about this flick. They did the effects the hard way and I love every bit of it. I love this film, but I don't know if it's the most sadistic. Now, David Hess' Krug character....that's sadistic b/c he could actually exist.

agreed.......i like hellraiser ...i do....but when you are talking about the most sadistic.....it is not......and it (TO ME) is not one of the best....but i can see the appeal and i agree that the fx are cool....just kinda over the top

I dont agree that it was the most sadistic horror flick made.. But I will say it is one of my top 5.. and at that time it was very fresh and original.. we have had a big discussion on hellraiser in the past on this forum and it was mostly fighting.. But IMO hellraiser is a lot better than candyman

I think that at the time of its release there wasnt anything like it, sure the effects arent the greatest but look at the time period. Film making has come a long way. Avenger is right they did things the hard way. Frank was an interesting character but I think that Pinhead just does it for me. I think it is his voice. I wonder if he has a beautiful singing voice.LOL Most sadistic of all time I dont think so but it is quite good.

I would have to say hellraiser is in my top 10, and I don't know if you would consider it sadistic but STRANGELAND was like well STRANGE, i am somewhat conflicted on whether or not i liked it!

the movie is (more or less) about sadistic characters, but that doesn't make the movie its self sadistic
