LOL
A majority of the kids around here can barely spell the word ..let alone understand the meaning of halloween.
What we got here last night...
little kids running up and down the road dragging plastic shopping bags behind them.
little kids trying so hard with their attempt to make themselves look scary..many dont need masks..honest..
little kids jumping the fences yelling ..trick or umm...umm..trick n ..umm..umm
then you hear ..TREAT ya moron..!!
Big kids yelling...'oi..grab us some chocolates'..
Instead of locking myself up in a dark room n watching movies..I sat outside on my balcony n handed out sweets.
Understand the majority of kids around here come from poor homes..from a poor neighbourhood a couple of blocks away from us...so last night would have been one of their best nights ever..free lollies.
By then end of the night ..i just ended up setting my balcony table up with food n drinks..n once they were full..just piled their plastic bags up with lollies.
I am known to these kids as i am admin at thier school..n part time teacher aide there as well.
My husband just shakes his head n walks back inside..lol.

I was working last night. Parked my car in the usual spot, wallked down the short road and round the corner. Just as I reached the corner, around 30 to 40 hooligan teenagers ran round screaming and laughing, some were holding egg box cartons. I carried on walking.

As I got round the corner, I could hear all this laughing and jeering and then saw this old guy, with a pretty big bucket of what must've been water, chasing a load of these kids up the road the other way. The pavement was strewn with eggs. I think this old guy is the owner of a small convenience store just on the corner, where these underage kids normaly pester the owners for alcohol and cigarettes etc.

They must have been getting their own back, and using Halloween as an excuse to egg the shop.

well try to explain the whole Idea of halloween to a 5 or 8 year old. It is like christmas. Once a year they can go out and get candy...so what. Everything is a sell out now in days, this whole planet is just one big dollar sign. Christmas, thanksgiving, easter, Cinco De Mayo, 4th of July, or what ever. Companies are about capitalizing on what they can. Even I, when a Fair, Collage game, or anything rolls into town. We as Business owners try to capitalize on the Business.

Over here we are told that the only official celebrations are ..Labour weekends..Waitangi weekends..Easter weekend and Christmas.
All others ..we just try and go with the flow..I celebrate halloween due to my freinds in America who tole me it was a fun thing to do and have been doing so for 5 years...oh and plus i love the scary shit I have freinds over there who send me recipes for pumpkin pies for thanksgiving.
My bestfriend lives in Florida Keys..he rings me time something extraordinaire happens. its awesome..!!

actually..you bring upa good point there
ralph..
kids nowdays can grasp the concept of any new game bought out today..whether is be ps..
nintendo or xbox..some are even fuckin computer wizzes..n shit em still finding myself around txt messaging..but
try and get them interested in something educational now and its like a huge blank stare.
Xmas has lost its meaning ..its all about how much the $$s the corporates can suck out the parents by attracting the childrens eyes.
Sad..very sad.

when I worked at a restaurant I used to get so pissed off at kids. They would come in and look at me like it took too much effort to stand up straight. Then they would try to order and all of the words would come out all jumbled like it took to much effort to speak. They were too fucking lazy to speak like a normal human being. Seriously, like it would take them about five minutes to get the entire sentence out. What is wrong with kids today? If I acted like that in public when I was a kid my mom would have backhanded me!

Because parents are scared of their kids now.
Because as they grew up,they didn't discipline.I can't count how many times I have seen a kid (age 4,5,6 and up)screaming at their parents-telling them to 'shut-up' and 'I hate you'.
My kid would be outta there so fast if that ever happened,I don't and won't tolerate disrespect. And if your kid comes over to my house-they play by MY house rules.(and the funny thing is,I am always the parent that the kids WANT to watch them.)
I have alot of fun with my kids, and discipline is very rare nowadays. But I truly pity people that don't understand that they are giving their children a ticket for apathy as adults.
Me and my husband never did and never will allow our kids to rule the house.

'applaud novak'

be damned too if some govt official or some damned do righteous prick tells me how to raise or discipline my girls.
And my rules apply..same as yours..but i have no problem with the kids that come to my house..e.ven though i have heard how they speak to thier parents...but i too have had the 'ooh i wish you were my mum..comment'.
Circumstances may be different where you are but over here..NOT ALL..but most of the kids come from families who have no idea what priorities are.
Benefit days ..a percentage of the parents are in pubs or gambling joints...food!!hah!!
who needs to fill the cupboards up with food when for one day in the week..they can have takeaways....
And yet..we are not a poverish country..
damn ...we have state housing that look like bungalows at a weekly price of 70$ nz per week for the poor families.
We have food banks and kitchens where for 1$ you can get a 3 course meal on one given day of the week..benefits for sole mums range from 300 to 500$s a week....and yet these kids live a life of misery.
