Nothing named in this thread is as bad as The House of the Dead when you consider all factors involved. It takes alot, and I mean ALOT to make me detest a horror film (I actually enjoy movies such as The House by the Cemetary) but I sat through all of House of the Dead and quite literally felt ripped off. Terrible movie, terrible story, terrible everything.

The STE

Resident Evil 2 had some decent action, it wasn't a horror film. House of the Dead sucked like nothing has sucked before. Violent Cop worse? NO WAY! If you'd take something like Violent Cop out back and shoot it to put it out of its' misery then HotD needs to be taken to the cellar and beaten into a bloody pulp then defecated on and lit on fire.

HOTD's budget is the main reason why it has to be considered worse. They had alot to work with, and I just don't understand how they thought that pile of garbage could entertain us.

Nope. It sounds like the problmes with House of the Dead were at the script level. Could've had Christian Bale, Ray Liotta, and had Ryuhei Kitamura direct, if the script is bad then the script is bad.

How can you say things like that about a script full of classic lines like this:

Bad Actor #1-You did all this to become immortal. Why?

Bad Actor #2-To live forever!

Now it takes real genius to come up with lines like that!

Okay, okay... Now I've seen one that may just give HotD a run for its money. Hood of the Living Dead. I could only watch about half of it, so it may pick up a lot at the end, but what I saw was pretty dire.

No it doesn't pick up at the end. Hood of the Living Dead was every bit as terrible as it sounds, but again, we come back to the budget. Hood of the Living Dead was made on a next to nithing budget where as House of the Dead had a major studio backing them.

Budget has nothing to do with it. I've seen movies with a low budget that really made a very watchable, atmospheric film. Look at the first Gingersnaps. That was one of the best werewolf films to come around in the long time. Now that they had a larger budget the last two movies were okay at best, but rather dry. Seems that sometimes people think that the budget will make the movie, when it's the acting, storyline and scares.

The worst movie hasn't been released yet. I was just reading the cast list for it though... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0460780/.

Not a bad cast but the best actors in the world couldn't save this project. When Tarentino did Kill Bill in two volumes people were skeptical but it turned out ok because it was Tarentino... Uwe Boll shouldn't be allowed to even try.

I would say of the current movies though Island of the Dead was MUCH worse than House of the Dead. Flies!? C'mon!!!

You know, I like a lot of movies, even a bunch on this list. I liked Resident Evil, John Carpenter's Vampires, House of 1,000 Corpses and plenty more but Undead was garbage. I'd put Undead just above House of the Dead because there were a couple ok scenes but I realllly disliked that movie.

I liked Resident Evil just fine, thought it was a lot of fun. A lot of people I know thought it was crap, but I didn't agree.

I own House of the Dead and enjoy it; I don't think it's a good movie but it's good stupid-time entertainment.

I need to see the Unrated Land of the Dead. Hopefully I'll like it better than what I saw in the theatre--was disappointed. I've been watching Romero's movies since a long time ago, and I get picky.

PR3SSUR3

I agree Vampires and Resident Evil were both perfectly acceptable horror/action movies.

I think we should draw distinctions between bad "real" movies (i.e. those with a budget and semi-professional crew) and bad "throwaway" efforts (such as anything with "Cheerleader", "Tomato" or "Killer" in the title).

It could've been a great movie had Spielbooger given Tobe Hooper total control of directing it instead of stepping in every time Hooper's direction got just a tad too creepy for him. Poltergiest 2 was kinda lame, although Carol Anne's rotting face and wailing moan as she was withering away was kinda cool. :)

there's a funny story about that on the AC/DC Live at Donnington DVD extras - apparently King wanted the boys to due additoinal music - the couple of instrumental songs on the MO soundtrack - but when they finished up those numbers, he hated them.

A few years after the film came out, he came up to Angus and Malcolm and admitted that the only thing worth shit out of the whole film were the AC/DC instrumentals. . . lol

I really enjoyed Freddy vs. Jason and Return of the Living Dead 3. I would say the worst horror film would have to have aired on the sci-fi channel, have featured a Melrose place or Models Inc cast member in the lead and have a title indicating the kind of animal that menaces the protagonist and possibly his awkward teenage daughter. There's about thirty five of these, one of them has to be it.

I think American Psycho 2 deserves honorable mention as well. Not to mention Dracula's Curse. I have never seen such an uptight Italian film in my life. Every bit of brilliant decadence common to the cultural output of Italian horror was surgically removed. Although I've only seen the box for Sasquatch Hunters, it looks like it might very well have a place in HDC's hall of shame. Is there an official HDC hall of shame by the way?

DOTD Contagium is an okay lo-budget zombie flick, the only problem is that they had the stones to call it a pre/sequel to Romero's masterpiece. The story had NOTHING to do with DOTD or Romero's mythology, I don't know what they were thinking.

Oh, upon skimming you will soon realize the budget. Zombie faces? Thin red water-like substance smeared on dark skinned faces and gritted teeth. So horrific >_> Theres enough "yo' cap dat azz niggah" within the 40 seconds I did watch to make you sick. Definate no buy, no rent, no encounter. Avoid at ALL costs. May be lethal :x

I liked The Village. Not so much for the huge letdown story, but the whole feel of the movie was great. I'd like to shake the directors hand (or atleast tell him... good fucking job or something....)

The Fog remake was one of the worst that IVE ever seen. Also Craven's Cursed made me want to rip my face off.

I think the worst horror movie ever is The Ring. I'm sorry, I know it's one of the best horror movies out there, but I really really hate it.

Thats your point of view I guess. But you really must watch some truly terrible films such as Mountaintop Motel Massacre, Rabid, or Dr Giggles first.

Now those are truly BAD films!

hating something doesnt make it the worst movie ever ...
something about it didnt connect but it was obviously better made than numerous other films out there.

there is a difference between 'worst horror movie ever' and 'what horror movie do you hate the most'

For me it has to be Ghost Lake - what the fuck was that all about? Poor acting, Poor effects...poor viewing audiences who had to sit through this shite. I'd really rather have eyes pierced than have to sit through this fuckin garbage again. I'm planning on sending it to my worst enemy anonymously for hsi birthday lol.

I think an honourable mention must go to Camp Blood as well...man we made better movies than that in college - well, on second thoughts...

I know that I'm probably gonna get slaughtered for saying this but....

The Evil Dead series freaking sucked! I hated those movies so much, they bored me and they were stupid as hell.

...feel free to yell at me, I know Evil Dead is a "cult classic", but oh well.

cabin by the lake 2 was very bad, but i wouldnt say it was the worst... in fact no where near it.

CBTL 1 was actually ok, not scary, but, pretty good, and it was original. both of them struck me as more... lifetime movie than anything else.

Hahhaha - if you have seen worse then please let me know the film titles so I can avoid. LOL.

You hit the nail on the head with the 'Father charater' as well - his brother or his lover definetley.

There must be better talent out there...

i find it difficult labeling any film "worst ever" that being said i think "unhinged" certainly ranks low on "the list" of desirable films.the one thing that makes this movie(dvd) worth owning is the audio commentary by "the detractors"....absolutely hilarious.

I dug it once the zombies came out cause the were a couple of really nicely done scenes particulary the end. I think it was just the main character (the dude with the beard) just really annoyed me and ruined the film for me with his ranting and raving. But I might give it another day in court sometime cuz a lot of people seem to dig it. Still thought it was better than Undead :p

I watched Bob Clark's Dead Of Night the other day and liked it a lot more than Children....

some times that can happen .. one guy ruins an entire movie ..

like the whiner comedy relief asshole in The Mummy (recent version)

i think guys in beards are the worse though ..

there's no room for beards in horror !!!!!

I was hoping something awful would happen to him but no! He just went on and on. Usually a character that annoying would get used as cannon fodder but this dude ended up being the main protagonist. The whole time I saw a zombie or someone flip out I was "Get that motherfucker!".

Kinda reminds me of that kid in House By The Cemetery. Everytime he whinned I wanted to see blood spilled :D

Dracula 3000 must be the worst "horror"film I've ever seen.
Could someone tell me if this atually was done with a sense of humor, or if it really was meant to be some sort of a good draculafilm?

Anyway, it's about a spacecraft who docks with some strange vessel, and then awakens Dracula on board. Gee.

Either way it sucks.
