Plz feel free to comment on any movie I reviewed...

Frankenstein (2004)

DVD description: Renowned scientist Victor Helios and his prototype creation, Deucalion, have managed to exist nearly two centuries through genetic manipulation. Now operating out of New Orleans, the mad scientist has established a research institute that secretly produces a "perfect" race of people designed to replace mankind.

Director Marcus Nispel who made the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre directs this one also....He did a great job...It take place in modern time.

Summary: Scientist Victor Helois has 3 monsters running around town....But 2 of them are on killing sprees and this dectective is trying to solve the murders...She then runs onto Helios first creation...He is trying to help her stop the other 2..This is my brief summary of what happens....I dont like to tell everything....But watch this one...

I give this one a 4 out of 5=Loved it

Frankenstein Reborn (2005)

Summary of Frankenstein Reborn:
In this horrifying, modern retelling of Mary Shelley's FRANKENSTEIN, a neurosurgeon obsessed with the reanimation of dead flesh, murders his patient and resurrects his corpse. Instead of life, he creates pure EVIL, as the Creature carves a path of flesh and gore through the heart of the city.

My summary:
2 scientist try to help a paralized man walk again...So they do their research on him....It works but he starts to have bad dreams of killing....He cant control himself so one of the doctors kill him and then does a new reanimation on him....The creature then starts his killing spree...This is all I will say, I dont like to tell the whole story...

More thoughts:
For the 1st time from Asylum video they actually put some money into this one...If you ever watched any of their movies they are pretty bad..This is a good movie ...It looked like a big budget made movie...The gore was great and the story was good also...Go rent this one...

I give it 4 out of 5=Loved it

Dead Meat (2004)

Thoughts:
This had some promise but it was way to slow...I keep waiting for something great to happen but it took to long...And when it happen it went by fast..The cow scene was really weird....

I give it a 3 out of 5 = rental

After watching the first EYE....This one is alot better...Its not scary...Just an interesting story...

5 out of 5=I hope no ghost will attach to me....Get this one fast..

Folks this was a pretty good movie...I loved it...It looks and feels like an old movie....Ill put it in the Vincent Price like stories...

Was boring from the get go....It looked good thats about it...

1 out of 5=Why couldnt the 14 year old get in the pirate movie? Because it was rated Rrrrrrrrr... This movie was as bad as that joke..

Ive never heard of any of these films, it also seems that my local blockbuster doesn't carry any of these titles. Im happy to read your reviews ruben but more easily available titles needed!

MY Thoughts:
Well I have to say that Asylum Home Entertainment is starting to put alot more money into their movies...Must be from Hollywood Video buying so many copies...Anyways this movie was pretty good....great gore...The monster didnt look to bad..This was the only downfall of the movie...And the quality of the movie is theater like...No more home video quality....Pick this one up at the vid store 1st....

My Thoughts:
First they cant stop changing scenes...It gets annoying....Let me put it this way its like that the whole movie...The dad keeps getting all these visions, which are as bad as the scene changes....Then when he gets to the maze it takes him about 2 to 4 hours just to find the kids...Why didnt he just cut through the corn when he heard them screaming? The dense wife just stayed back at the entrance...As time goes on she gets clobbered and the husband for some reason has no problem getting out of the maze numerous times...Dont even bother with this one..

STORY:1 out of 5= The story starts in the 1800's and then fast forwards to present day....Now Van Helsing is a scientist and forgets about hunting, until a vampire shows up in the hospital.

ACTORS QUALITY: 2 out of 5= All of the vampires over due their parts...Van Helsing is a little slow in his delivery..

VIOLENCE: 2 out of 5: Lots of neck biting and the occasional stake threw some part of the body...

GORE: 1 out of 5= Neck bites are about the closest we are going to get to some heavy gore...

SPECIAL EFFECTS: 1 out of 5= The vampires can disappear...It doesnt look to good..

LOVE: 1 out of 5: A couple of female vampires with Sebastian on the couch..

FINAL THOUGHTSSpoilers) Sebastian the new king of vampires sets around for centuries until one of his main sidekicks brings him blood...At first he's very scared to drink it because of Van Helsing, but he does it anyways and decides to make a run at taking over the world....He then sports a El madator outfit..Funny!!! Now Helsing recruits new slayers which get took out very easy....But they did learn how to stake and some karate....Finally when the 2 meet up Van gets beat on and it takes Van's new girl to get the job done....

OVERALL: 1 out of 5= Dont think about renting this one...

VIOLENCE:1 out of 5: Didnt get to see alot of shark killings up close..

GORE: 0 out of 5= 1 pool of blood

SPECIAL EFFECTS: 0 out of 5= Its bad when Finding Nemo has better F\X..

LOVE: 0 out of 5

FINAL THOUGHTS: I believe this was a Sci-Fi Channel movie, if not it will be...Sharks were real bad looking...Check this one out on Sci-FI channel when it comes on...

OVERALL: 2 out of 5= Dont rent

GORE:0 out of 5=Had a couple of scenes that could of had gore in it..

LOVE:5 out of 5: One word " WOW!!"

FINAL THOUGHTS: The movie was slow from the beginning, but then it picked up when Jaqueline was formed...A couple of the scenes they get crazy..

OVERALL SCORE: 3 out of 5: Rental, dont waste that hard earned money..

LOVE: 1 out of 5

FINAL THOUGHTS: What an awsome movie...Go get this one today...If you can handle foriegn horror than its for you....It had me glued to the tv the whole time, I didnt want to get up for nothing....

FINAL THOUGHTS: Asylum home entertainment did it again...They are spending alot of money now a days...Everything was great...If you liked 28 Days Later, then this is for you..And if you didnt like it , its still for you...Go get this one today...I'm by passing rent before buying...Buy it now you wont be disappointed...

Ruben, I enjoy reading your reviews, as I like the obscure film titles that you can't always find at your local Walmart...keep them coming.

I do have a question though. What is your scoring/ratings based on? Do you use anything as a "control score" to come to the conclusions and score that you give them? Gore for example. Your maximum score is 5 and you have given movies such as High Tension the maximum score, when there are many movies that pass this movie both in quanity and quality of gore by leaps and bounds such as Cannibal Holocaust, Bad Taste, Dead Alive, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, etc...

Just curious.

Tat2=I base my gore rating on how much blood and the type of killing...If their is a whole lots of it and looks good i give it a 5 out of 5=like high tension , dawn of the dead, dead men walking...

FINAL THOUGHTS: They say Near Dark is one of the best horror movies of all time....I have to disagree...It was boring for a long time, then picked up..I believe to be one of the best, it has to keep you glued to the tv the whole time, this didnt do it for me....This was more of a romance to me...If I didnt do reviews I probably wouldnt have watched it all the way through..It cant even compete with Lost Boys...Pass on this movie, unless your a diehard vampire fan...But plan on being bored..

i think it's safe to say that in most of these choices - you CAN judge a film by it's cover.

My only problem with Rubinmanias revies .. is that he is only reviewing junk ... i need to know how he feels about the same movies I've seen before i can trust his judgement .. his tastes may not be aligned with mine ..
And these are the kinds of movies i never give a second look to.
There is a kind of .. flavor to these films .. the covers have a commonality ... not sure if anyone knows what i'm saying .. but there is a certain quality.

Decent movie covers are more subtle in general .. like they dont have anything to prove ..

There is a kind of .. flavor to these films .. the covers have a commonality ... not sure if anyone knows what i'm saying .. but there is a certain quality.

Decent movie covers are more subtle in general .. like they dont have anything to prove ..

I think he said that most of all these movies are coming for Hollywood Video... I rent at Hollywood Video so i see these movies available all the time. Most of them are B-crappy movies and he even admits it. Saves me time and money. I much prefer him to review the lesser known movies because how many times do we have to see reviews of the same old good popular movies.

Are there really any great B-Horror movies that came out recently on DVD? I dont think so. There should be a thread solely for recent B-horror movies on here because there are so many new B-horror movies coming out but I dont give them a shot.

it wasnt a personal criticizm ... i just need a benchmark - basis for comparrison.

there have been some low budget jems here and there (Dead Birds is a forum favorite ... anyone see that in the theatres ?)

i'm just wouldnt want to dismiss something solely on the recommendation that someone who doesnt know my personal taste in films might make ..

Their was a couple of creepy parts.....And a part of the story that made it real good....I wont tell you, you have to see for yourself....Rent it and if you cant find it at the video store, buy it, it shouldnt cost that much, I would say under 10 bucks....

Ok, George was taking his family on a skiing vaction and their car broke down... Just so happen their was a phone booth right across the street...SO George goes to call for help and at this time his wife and daughter play snowball fight....Little did they know that a truck and a car were coming toward them from different directions...If you quessed what happen yet, then your right they get ran over by the truck...SO its 3 years later and he decides to move away...His friends set him up with their friend to rent him a house...And it hasnt been lived in for years....Well George a music composer takes it on and strange things begin to happen... Mostly loud noises....THe ghost isnt trying to kill him, its trying to lead him up stairs to a closet that has a secret room behind it....Once he gets in he finds a wheel chair and a journal of sort...So George investigates and finds out that the ghost boy was murdered in the room by his father....George then finds out where they had other houses and one had a well...The well was buried under the house floor...Goerge gets the owner to belive him about his visions and starts to dig and finds the boys remains...They call the police and they take the bones , but they dont find anything else....Goerge goes back at night and a necklace comes up from the well by the ghost....Well it has a Senators name on it....George cant believe it and confronts the Senator...THe senator then send his crooked police chief out to confront George... George doent give in...The Chief then tells him that he will be back with a warrant to search the house for the necklace... Well on his way back to the station his car is flipped and he is killed....George investigates the family necklace name and finds out that the Senator is an adopeted...The ghostboy was paralized and the father had to kill him to get all the money...SO his dad drowned him in the bathtub.....Then he says he sent him away for 2 years and thats how the Senator took the boys place....SO to the end...The house catches on fire from the ghosts rage and the George sees the senator walking up the stairs to the room..Then George gets outside and the house burns down...The end, like I said above the story is the best thing about this movie.....

ok, now i have my benchmark for Rubenmania.

I'd have given this film a 4.5 at least ... and thats only because it's a wee bit dated now in hindsight (never a fair way to judge a film)

when it came out i'd have given it a 5. Probably still deserves it ..
George C Scott is a terrific actor ...

It certainly doesnt belong with the rest of the rabble in this thread !

Wow, 11 killings and they were great...Some had gore and others you know stabbing....The best killing I thought was when the guy in the basement of the castle get the knife stuck through his mouth.....The best gore scene was when the guy in the bathroom trying to escape gets stab in the butt and then the inbred starts to pull out his intestines....Also their was a lady naked in this room of the castle, who was getting raped, so she could give birth and the baby was lying dead on the floor still attached to the cord....The love had 2 great scence..Chasey Lain was in the 1st scene and the 2nd was the hot blonde from the group.....Oh and Jenna Jamison really only had 2 small parts..We got to see her chest...Like thats something new!!!!!

OK, the story starts at a restuarant where Busy is holding up the place...He killed the waitress and then kills the main characters dad and brother...He tries to hold back on killing the sister but shoots her anyways.... She lives and then we end up at their bakery that she runs...Her mother is a drunk and her assistant baker want to be a pro wrestler....Busy by the way was killed by the electic chair....Well a mysterious person knocks on the back door and leaves gingerbread seasoning...SO they add it to their other full 40lb seasoning...And then the want to be pro wrestler cuts himself and puts his arm right over the seasoning and drips all kind of blood in it and the Girl doesnt think nothing about it.... So the wanna be wrestler starts to scoop out the seasoning and adds it to the cookie mix and then the gingerdead man starts to form...The girl then cuts out the gingerbreadman design and sticks it in the oven...At this time the daughter of the new chain bakery across the street decides to stop in and leave a rat in the bakery...The girl catches her and they start to fight...Then the chain bakery daughters boyfriend comes in and stops them....They end up in the back room and the the oven starts to spark and burn away forming the gingerdead man....This is where it gets plain stupid...They let it out and he runs and hides....They take off to the front...Not knowing what to do they stay their and try to go back and kill the gingerdeadman....When they get to the back again only about 10 feet away the gingerdeadman is eating up all kind of goodies...They throw it back in the oven and run back up front...Then the girls mom shows up from some new entrance...Drunk and all and lets him out and he cuts off her finger...Then the girls coworker who works the register comes in and finds her and takes her away....So the group up front go back to the back and realize gingerdeadman is out....Ok why havent they left and let the police take care off it? Hmmmm, Fast forwarding the daughter of the chain bakery calls her father and he shows up and gets ran into the side of the building.....Time passes on and then the girl and the chains duaghters boyfriend go to cut on the power...And start to fall in love and forget about the real problem...Boy I was hoping they would of died....The chain bakery daughter then gets stabbed in the head.....So advancing now to the end...The wrestler guy shows up and starts to eat the gingerdeadman up...Blood spills everywhere....Next thing you know they leave out the bakery and leave the wrestler behind, so the girl heads back to get him and finds the wrestler possessed by the gingerdeadman...It was 4 days ago since i watched this movie, but I dont remember what happen....It doesnt matter...It sucked

How Dan becomes a zombie...They are at the beach and Dan is sleeping and this zombie comes from the ocean and falls on top of him and then spits blood in his face....Their are 7 killings...His 1st one is a jogger that he kills while his wife is shopping...This is the goriest kill of them all....The joggers intestines are hanging out....The rest are neck bites and other areas....To the ending dan is about to do the same to his wife like the zombie did him, but at the last second his love for her made him turn away and his vomit of blood went flying away from her.....

OK, the story is great, the killings all happen the same....Their was 6 killings in all....All the women had thier skin removed from their face....WHy I said she was strong as heck...She put the dad up in a tree about 10 to 15 feet high....The brother was a big wuss and whined the whole time he was getting his legs smashed by the woman....The sister the main character had a gun that she used only once and when the disfigured woman started to run after them, let me explain she was trying to chase down a atv...And doing a good job of it...Well the atv ran out of gas and the woman caught up and both of them were just screaming...SO the woman who only grunts the whole time gets in her face and then the girl tries to use the gun and thats right it was out of ammo...SO she's fighting of the woman and grabs her knife...At this time the girl gets her lip busted and the woman starts to trip out, like she didnt want nothing to do with her because she messed up her face...SO the girl figures it out and uses it to her advantage and starts to carve up her own face, why what a stupid girl, she could of just stabbed her...SO the girl tries to talk her out of her evil ways, this is were it gets real bad...The woman gives in and the girl stabs her...Like any other horror movie the just walk away....So they get to their car and no keys...The brother tells her that one of the victims have them...So the sister runs back to get the keys in only about 1 min which took them about 10 mins to get that far on the atv...On her way to get to the keys the woman was gone....So they drive offf and only going about 5 miles per hour they go past some new campers and the brother tells her to turn around to let them know...SHe says we will let the police tell them, reminding you that they are still going 5 miles per hour...Now for the ending, the woman jumps into your face at the end from the back seat.....Dumb

Hi, Gyser...I havent seen Hostel yet...But I should be checking it out within the next couple of weeks, because it should be an MVP movie by then...I rent from Hollywood video and I usually have to wait for new releases to go mvp in 30 to 45 days..I pay 14.99 a month for 3 movies a day...

Hey Rubenmania. Dunno if Hostel's your kinda thing, but I thought it was good. But as i said I'm a sucker for all that 'Psycho' stuff. Enjoy...

Saw the new Omen, unlike most people I thought it was good too. Word for word to the original, but thought the kill the journalist scene was way better done.

At the minute, apart from finishing my second book, I'm chunking through the 'Dark Tower' again. Never read them back to back before, it's heavy going but worth it.

It seemed to have promise and then the same old thing keep happening. Why in these kind of movies, people keep going back to the same place where it started. Worth a one time watch.

If possible check out the VHS. When I first saw it I didn't really care for it, but since the remake is coming out I had to see it again. It must of been from the quality of the VHS. Now it is actually a good movie, but like I said the DVD is edited. Watch this before seeing the remake. And from the cover, it looks like a horror movie. Its not and the house looks nothing like the one from the cover.

It's cool you're doing these reviews and all, but some of your assesments are rather dodgy- like you give a NA to the acting on a film because there are subtitles? WTF? Is it because you read so slow you don't have a chance to ever look at the actors?

You give a "LOVE" rating of 2 to a film because there are rape scenes? WHAT? Rape has NOTHING to do with love, dude.

Last House On the Left is not a horror movie? Excuse me? Since when?

I don't get the category "LOVE". What exactly are you grading there? How much romance there is in the film or how much you personally loved it? Or something else all together?

And like NE pointed out, Last House on the Left is most certainly a horror film. If it's not to you, I'd love to know what your criteria is to be considered a horror film.

The Love factor was in earlier reviews and now recent they say Sexual Content. And to me I never considered being raped and held hostage horror. I always considered horror as a scary movie, but as i think about it, Having that done would be a horrifing expirence.

I was disappointed about it..

Started out nicely, but the small budget was too small and just became a big problem early on in the movie, forcing the director to slow down the story and blur the screen to hide the fact he had no money for any decent looking monster/alien.
