View Full Version : Movies to avoid...whats your list?

goregurl

what movies did you watch then question why you just wasted 2 hours of your time? list 'em here! try to add a why if you have one!

sleepaway camp 3 - just horrid crappy deaths, super bad acting (and i'm pretty tolerant) and a wholy ridiculous plot line.

slaughter studios - mega cheese with this one coupled with a piss poor plot and a guy with the most terribly, horridly, awful english accent in the history of english accents...spare yourself unless you enjoy triple Z gade films...or you're into self torture.

redneck zombies - nuff said right there.

evil death - came out shortly after evil dead and is a cornucopia of faults. at one point the camera man turns and looks at the director..guess they never heard of editing..lol.

i know there are more but i can't think of them right now. oh and sorry if there is already a thread like this, i searched and didn't find one so i made my own.

Off Season- Pretentious crap masquerading as Indie horror.
Cursed- Kevin Williamson script. Christina Ricci's interesting variation on good acting. Stale werewolf lore with no new insights. A delightful crap sundae with all the fixins.
The Last Horror Movie- PoMo metacinematic pseudoart at its most nauseating.
American Psycho 2- Removing every trace of Brett Easton Ellis presence and adding William Shatner. What a judgment call.
Boogeyman- More epileptic than scary. A combination of It and They with less insight than either of its pronominally titled forefathers.
Amityville Horror Remake- see the thread for my particular qualms.
Red Eye- Oh no, somebody wants to kill the secretary of homeland security! Maybe we'll be able to piss without security cameras. Spoooooky.
Cheerleader Massacre-Not much massacring. Not much cheerleading. Fans of Bring it On AND Texas Chainsaw Massacre will be disappointed. What the hell were these people thinking by rationing the violence and nudity in a film that could only POSSIBLY be propelled by these two things. My Dinner with Andre is more sexy and exciting.
Midnight Mass- Sexy goth S and M vampires are harassed by boring humans that feed on postmodern angst far more often than you see the vampires feeding on blood.

The aforementioned Off-Season is definitely one to be avoided. I'd also add Slaugherhouse of the Rising Sun to the list. A miserable failure on all counts, and quite near the top of my list of worst movies ever. Anything directed by Stephen Sommers (The Mummy, Van Helsing.) It boggles my mind that such an inept filmmaker can keep churning out successful films. I weep for society.

Redneck Zombies is one of the most entertaining Troma films out there!

Well, except for Halloween 3. I like that one too. (It's just out of place in the Halloween franchise.)

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 4: The Next Generation
Phantasm (All of them. Fuck that series!)
House of the Dead (Worst. Movie. Ever.)

Battlefield: Earth (Yes! It's as bad as you've heard!)

Last House on The Left ( 1972): Pathetic debut for Wes Craven, i think "Maniac" ( 1980) is way better than this goreless and unscary crap, heck even "Nightmare on Elm Street" and "Scream" were better Craven movies.

Zombie Lake ( 1980): Painful French-Spanish zombie movie that makes "House of the Dead" look good! guaranteed to make you wanna kill yourself.

Zombi 3 ( 1988): Horrible in-name only sequel to "Zombi 2 ( a.k.a. Zombie)", fast moving zombies included which are reminsence of "Nightmare City"and an early zombie baby ( ala, Dawn of the Dead remake), this movie is sooo bad that it also makes House of the Dead look like oscar gold.

House of the Dead ( 2003): 'Nuff Said.

Nightmare on Elm Street 2 ( 1985): Worst of the Series!

Some odd decisions here, especially Freddy's Revenge, Season of the Witch, Last House on the Left and Texas Chain Saw Massacre: Next Generation.

Do some of you actually watch these films for story and execution, or simply compare them to post-modern clever stuff and agree with the popular opinion of impressionable youngsters?

TCM4 for example was way ahead of Craven & Co.'s self-referential "homages" to the classics, without needing to lapse into smug back-slapping and sly winks.

I dunno.... I haven't seen Sleepaway Camp 3, but I did see 1 and 2. It may be chock full of cheesy death scenes and a crappy plot, but at least it's enjoyable crap. :D It's like, unintentionally funny.

Movies to avoid are most films by Full Moon, definitely York Entertainment, and Dead Alive Productions. Avoid "Dead Alive" like aids. There's not one movie that they have made that's barely tolerable, let alone enjoyable. Shit like Artisan though, that's a hit or miss I suppose. They did a good job on Gingersnaps 1, although 2 and 3 were kinda dry. But the same people that made Gingersnaps were also responsible for "Childred of the Living Dead"? What gives?

I liked the first half of Undead, but not really the second half.

Freddie Got Fingered is a very specific type of humor, but if you 'get' it, that's one of the funniest movies out there.

TCM 4- Just plain sucks. Talk about a retarded plot. Anyone trying to defend this movie loses any credibility whatsoever as far as I'm concerned.

I also thought Unbreakable was pretty good. IMO, it's his second best film to date. (Behind 6th Sense)

Why Wrong Turn was included on someones list is beyond me...

Dumb and Dumberer was pretty bad, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. (Although the two actors in it, do a really good job of sticking to the character traits of Harry and Lloyd, but tha's about the only positive and it's not enough to make me think anyone should see this movie.)

Yeah, I just saw "Darkness". God was that boring. Seemed to have a few good creepy ideas, but it just didn't follow through enough.

"Darkness Falls" is okay. Could've been much better as an "R" rated film with some gore and better special effects. The original "Ghostship" was much better than the remake. The remake was too sanitized, although the cable slashing scene was cool, but the rest of the movie is okay at best. Kinda boring, but at least it was decent, but too sanitized. I hate when they sanitize horror films.

yeah but in SC3 you don't see anything really when people get killed..it's not even worthy of the R rating, except for the language. it's hard for me to define it as a slasher flick when you don't get to see the slashing, ya know? i think that SC2 has the best death scenes out of the three and SC4 looked like it was going to be okay, shame the studio lost intrest in it.

John and Laura Baxter are living in Venice when they meet a pair of elderly sisters, one of whom claims to be psychic. She insists that she sees the spirit of the Baxters' daughter, who recently drowned. Laura is intrigued, but John resists the idea. He, however, seems to have his own psychic flashes, seeing their daughter walk the streets in her red cloak, as well as Laura and the sisters on a funeral gondola.

I have this on DVD. I think it was ruined for me because my friend told me the end of the movie before I had the opportunity to see it, the end, to me, is what gives a movie that edge of being really bad or really great. Everyone has their opinion, you may like it. I didnt, thought it was boring and took too long for anything to really happen. Im a big fan of slasher type movies with a lot of gore, this is more of a psychological thriller in my opinion.

Wes Craven's Chiller.

Oh God oh God oh God. What an awful movie. Guy got put in a bodycast by a car goig like 2 mph. It'd be a tough choice for me between this and Jigsaw for worst movie ever.

Totally agree with these two, I havent seen the English Patient and will never see it, not my kinda movie. Matrix, dont care either way.

The Village, I did NOT consider this a horror movie. And the assholes on the tv and radio that entire summer were saying "Scariest movie of the year", which I think they say that about every horror movie that comes out. I wanted my money back when that movie was over.

Ninth Gate- when it ended the only thing I said was "what the hell just happened???"

gorefreak
10-28-2005, 07:01 PM
They always say "scariest movie of the year" no matter what it is. It's all about marketing and making money off of main stream crap. And what is the deal with using popular music for movies? I'd rather watch a movie with "horror music", it adds creepiness to the scene.

Usually Artisan has a good share of bad movies. Look at "Children Of The Living Dead". York Entertainment is worse than that. But "Dark Castle".... I dunno.... I'll have to look for that name and see what movies are under that name.

the village made absolutley no sense, but joaquin
phoenix, and bryce howard(ron howard's daughter) were
great in this movie, but it was silly. and halloween 3 season
of the witch, it made no sense cause it wasn't even in the
halloween series. shaun of the dead seems silly, but
haven't watched it yet though.

I've had a change of heart. In view of the fact of having made a conscious decision to stop watching a film within the first 10 minutes because I knew for a fact it wouldn't have -anything- worthwhile, I basically now think that there is no film that you could possibly be wasting 2 hours of your time for.

Maybe the likes of Van Helsing (a worthwhile educational experience on the lengths a film's distastefulness can go when a filmmaker is given CGI to play with -- hey, that reminds me of Star Wars Episodes 1 thru 3) and Brothers Grimm.

My point is, no matter how bad a film seems to be, something can make me hesitate about pressing Stop, though it may not necessarily have anything to do with the film's merits, no matter how little there may be. For instance, I sat through Undead once...because it was April Fools Day.

Distilled further...any film is worth watching once.

So you've never seen shit like....
"The Day It Came To Earth"---- it started out great though. Mafia guy fucks up a job, gets rubbed out, metor crashes into the lake, revived, and violently kills two people within minutes. After that, it slowed down to 2 MPH and I fell asleep through half of it. The film used was such low quality that thing like a black n white cop car, you could not see any black, car's panels, tires, etc.... or any of the darker colors.
"Disembodied"---- still can't figure WTF the point of that movie was except it dealt with an alien chick and some professor trying to find her. They even had a scene where shit would appear and dissappear on a shelf or roll around using stop-motion? Reminded me of shit of something that you'd see on Sesame Street from the mid 70's.
"The Item"---- talking worm that will infiltrate/destroy the mind of whoever would attempt to keep it captive.... need I say more?
"Axe em"---- really lame slasher and not wide screen.... a 1 inch black bar "box" around the TV sceen. 15 guys or so and one killer with a small knife. Ran back into the house almost "Scooby-Doo" style. Like they couldn't gang up and beat his ass. Really shitty acting and I shut it off when half of em were screaming directly into the camera.

No, I certainly haven't. But I can tell you with absolute certainty that even if my reactions might be undoubtedly similar to yours, I would not regret having seen it...once.

Watched Coffin Joe twice. Slept through the second viewing.
And happily survived two viewings of Beware of the 4D Witch.

Ehhh, I suppose when I think about it I don't regret watching em too much considering how I'd be so compelled to jump into a pit of sharp spikes if I had purchased those movies instead. :D It sucks that the ratio of bad horror movies outweigh the good ones. :(

Agreed, to some extent. There were quite a few parts that sucked, IMO, but overall it was OK.

I didnt think JC2 was that bad, either. Not nearly as good as the 1st one, but still an enjoyable, mindless hour and a half.

I'm glad to hear that you don't regret having seen them. I agree that it is something of a bonus, if you will, that you hadn't bought them. :)

If I can put it in another way (for the last time), I could happily spend a month watching all the little movies in bijouflix than the same amount of time watching the garbage coming out of mainstream these days.

And I would still very much to see that talking worm...

Also, anything based on a Lovecraft story should be avoided.
