I remember seeing this film in the theatres back in the late '70's. Really good FX, but only a decent story. Overall an OK movie.

Finally you people make a thread about a GREAT bad movie.

I'll be totally frank here: This movie sucks ass, but I very much like the WAY that it sucks. This movie is funny as hell, and if you like spacy 70's movie atmosphere, this one has lots of it.

There's a great exchange in which two doctors discuss the escaped melting man's condition, and one of them rattles off an insane list of "facts" that he can't POSSIBLY know, considering that this "melting phenomenon" was just discovered hours ago. This is not verbatim but the dialogue goes something like this:

DOCTOR 1. His mind is decaying along with his body...he'll need human cells to survive...and his instinct will tell him to kill.

DOCTOR 2. That's why he killed the nurse.

DOCTOR 1. That's pretty much it. The more he melts, the more he'll need to kill. And the more he kills...the longer he's going to live. (???? All Righty Then.)

This is one of my favorite scenes in the movie because it sounds like someone with a high fever babbling nonsense...

Later on, the whacky doctor ("Ted Nelson") burns his hand on the kitchen stove, but instead of screaming normally, shouts something that sounds a lot like "Aaatch-kah!" His wife comes home from the store and he tells her that "Steve" (the melting astronaut) escaped. She says, "Oh my God!" And he says "Did you get some crackers? We ran out of crackers."

No, Ted, we didn't run out of crackers. This movie is PLENTY crackers.

So, what are you waiting for?? See this movie. It kicks ass.

Melting Man is truly awful. I did like the scene at the start where the nurse drops the pint of blood and gets chased, but that is all.

There are loads more better "bad" films out there.

Nope: My post is longer, so my opinion is superior to all other opinions. Sorry, but that's how it is. My thoughts are just naturally of a higher quality than other people's thoughts. And that's why my post is longer and that's why my opinion is better. Me. Me, me, me, me, me, me.

I saw that movie. The special effects for 1977 wasn't bad for such a low budget stinker. But yeah, the dialog is downright laughable. And yeah, it's crap, it's unintentionally funny, and it's full of ridiculous plot holes. But it's enjoyable crap. :D Sometimes the crappy low budget stinkers are better than half of the sanitized horror films of today.
