Script program.

Looking to write a script and wondering if it's useful to get a pc "script writing" program. If you think it will help, what's the best one (bang for the buck, I waste too much money on DVDs).

I picked up a book called the $30 film school (http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?userid=NW03MnKC62&isbn=1592000673&itm=1) , taught me a lot so far. I just need to get my camera to start shooting. Anyways he lists all the programs that you need to edit film on your home pc, he said to use Final Draft for the script writing. I like my good old Microsoft Word to write my scripts. Hope that helps you out.

the stand alone versions like Final Draft can be pretty pricey, but if you have no script writing experience formatting in Word can really slow you down.(I was typing them back before there was specialized software, in fact I seem to remember as a kid using a type writer for a few)

I have been tossing around buying this to make it easier, but I've been formatting my own for so long, I'm not sure it's worth the bucks.

I agree with the slowing down part I just recently got into writing scripts and I bought a few from ebay to read and see how the writers did them and the book helps me out a little but so far I think i'm doing good with it. I have my first one almost finished. :D

Word helps when you email it too. Talent and crew on an indie shoot are much more likely to have a version of Word than Final Draft.

get final draft and save your script as a pdf before you send it out to people. getting a script as a word document is a pain in the ass and even hardcore amateurs won't accept it.
i hear movie magic screenwriter is good, too, but i've never used it, so i'm not vouching for it.
also, there are some macro programs that can format a script in microsoft word, but you'll still want to save it as a pdf before you send it to anyone.
just don't use word. unless you specifically don't want anyone in the industry to ever read it. i'm speaking from experience here. only pdf.

lol One of my buddies said one of his friends had a cam corder and made a total spoof based on ridiculous scenes from horror films. Such as: hearing violent noises and a guy would say, "I'm gonna take this flash light and go downstairs to check out what those noises are." :D

For the most part, all script writing programs are the same (regardless of price). Try out Celtx. It's free and basically the same as Final Draft, except it has a "picture" feature that you can use to illustrate characters, props, etc.

I think my Word Perfect can do that. One of the things says "insert image", but I've never figured out how to do it seeing how I don't use it very often.
