:) I've been seing the advertisements for this movie on t.v. and wanted to see this movie. I'll admit, that I wasn't much into horror movies, but after watching this movie one time, I was instantly hooked, to both horror movies and this particular movie. Since watching the DVD, I became mesmerized by the events which surround this movie and did some research about it on the web. This is quite a story...... very bonechilling.... a definite must-see for those who are unsure about whether or not they like horror flicks!!! This is my new fav of all horror flicks!! Hey, anyone that has seen both the '05 version (remake) & the old one (of this movie), is it as good as the remake??? I'd be interested in seeing it also, if it is as good as this one...... MGB!!! LOL!!! :O)

This is most likely a spam post, but what the hell. I'll bite.
I didn't think it was that great... but then again, I didn't like the old one all that much either. Definitely prefer it over the remake, though. The performances in the remake just seemed flat to me.

I guess I'd pick the original over the remake, but the remake was actually very good.

HATED the remake. Absolutly hated it. It dropped everything that I liked from the original: The priest was there for what? 30 seconds? While in the original he was a great, important, and most of all VERY well-acted character. George....oh god, George. First of all, Ryan Renolds is an actor I absolutly cant stand. He's OK when he tries to be funny, but in this he just flat out sucked. Second, they lost the absolute best line of the original, George sitting infront of the fire: "Im coming apart!". Chilling line, Brolin's delivery was amazing. Plus, they complely ruined George's character....cause you obviously havnt seen the original, I wont explain HOW it did, but trust me, it did. Finally, like any modern-day horror flick, this felt the need to show you everything. All the ghosts were crappy CGI, as opposed to being left to your imagination, which is always better.
I guess thats enough ranting bout this shitpile....

I thought Ryan Renolds did a great job of playing George. Also the CGI ghosts freaked me out, Esp. The first time they showed us the little girl made me hide under my covers! But for me it's a tuff choice of which is better. I liked how the remake told you more about what was going on.

Sure, 2 and 3 weren't great but they were certainly better than the ones that followed.

I have yet to see this ..as for the original..
I loved it but it pissed me off.It was supposed to be based on a true story.
I was hoping that George would actually do something to make up for all that sweating etc.
I got bored one weekend and hiredpts 1 thru to 3 and watched them backwards.
They sucked!!

There's a thread about this movie right there in Modern. There's about 8 elsewhere, too.

There's a reason George Lutz sued on account of this movie. Did the filmmakers think that he ceased to exist in the years following the original so could be turned into anything they wanted? The film's based on a screenplay, based on a book, based on a true story, based on a testimony, based somewhat loosely on facts. It's kind of insulting that a real haunting report got shifted so vastly. It's a little different than just remaking a movie. Turning George Lutz into Jack Torrance was not a great idea. Lutz did confess to losing it in his testimonies, but the George Lutz shown in this movie was an abomination. I think this movie's claims of being "based on a true story" have probably set the parapsychology field back about 25 years. Not to mention that the directors have their wires crossed, combining elements of demonic obsession and hauntings in a way much more garbled than the already spotty materials from whence they originated. If this didn't actually have source material to take into consideration, it would be a decent run-of-the-mill Hollywood haunting, but as is, it's a D- adaptation of C- material.
